    This might be one of my favorite scenes in ST:VOY. First of all, it’s funny and well acted by all three actresses. But it also shows quality writing and subtle character development: earlier in the season B’Elanna tells Seven that she should thank people more often - and here Seven does it spontaneously. Also B’Elanna approving of Sevens “mild shock” references that she herself might have done something similar a few years earlier but has grown to be a bit more composed.
    The writing in season 4 was really good, they really made an effort on little character moments and referencing events from a few episodes back which made it feel like a continuing story despite (most) episodes being stand alone stories.

She was soo hard to work with, if we didnt have a scene together, then she would just ignore me at rehersals and on set." • @imakeplaylists3640

      Jeri got a lot of airtime for her appearance, but as a result gave Seven a lot of character development. Compare Chakotay- also good-looking, also got a lot of airtime, but completely wooden acting from Robert Beltran. Instead of ditching Kes, they should have ditched Chakotay and kept both Kes and Seven. It would have evened out the show.

    • @b-radg916
      @b-radg916 6 лет назад +11

      I thought Chakotay was OK. I mean, he was less wooden than Tuvok. And before you say that Tuvok was Vulcan, so was Spock. I did like Kes. It would have been interesting to have almost an even number of male/female characters, although based on what it sounds like the actors have said, it probably wouldn't have been well received by Kate Mulgrew.

      Kes evolved beyond the Starfleet matrix.
      Starfleet was a wonderfull and huge matrix. But still a matrix.
      I think Kes could have joined the Q system. She could grow within it and help to evolve it too. Like Seven did in Starfleet.
      It was a terrible mistake to bring her back at the later episode. It was one of the worst episodes in the series.

      This may be a more than a little late, but if we're talking top three women in Star Trek, then at least one of those positions has to go to Kira Nerys. She's right up there with Seven when it comes to emotional baggage and working through it, and I'd argue that she's more capable in a command role than Janeway, though that's just my personal opinion. Jadzia Dax is also worth noting. She was one of the most 'alive' characters in all of Trek, always lighting up a room with her personality. Ezri had a lot of potential, but too little time to work on it. Seven of Nine is probably my favorite character in all of Star Trek, but aside from the Doctor, I'm not a huge fan of most of Voyager's cast. But anyway, that's just this one fellow's random opinion. ^_^

A more surefire way to guarantee the Doctor's return was just to knock him out for a few hours until the Doctor returned, at which point Voyager could simply leave and the disgruntled prick could be left to groan and pull himself up in peace.

      This was just another illustration of how Janeway allowed females on her ship to get away with things she would never tolerate in males, like the time B'lana almost killed Joe Kerry by punching him in the face. Even as the man lay bleeding in sickbay they joked about him, yet if this were the other way around and a MAN did this to a WOMAN then it would never be tolerated. Then what does Janeway do? Does she punish B'lana? Hell no. She instead PROMOTES her to Chief Engineer. Had a man done this his career would be OVER but Janeway allows females to get away with things like this while putting males in the brig for it. Janeway constantly had an open door policy to the female crew but chastised the males if they ever broke protocol (Tom Paris was a good example of this). Janeway even put her first officer in the brig because he tried to stop her from BREAKING THE LAW when she exposed a Starfleet crewman from the another ship to an entity that was trying to kill them for their part in killing their own kind. This of course is irrelevant because by all rights the crewman would stand trial for his culpability in what his own captain did, but the point is, once again, Janeway just bowls right over the men while extending complete forgiveness to women who commit the same crimes.
      This was the one aspect I didn't like about Voyager. I loved the premise but Janeway's constant favoritism of females was clearly apparent - unless of course one chooses to disregard it (how convenient).

      So you're saying if Spock or Data did such a thing, Kirk or Picard (respectively), would have punished them? I don't buy it.

    I just realized that _Voyager_ never came across the Delta Quadrant's equivalent to the Federation. I think an episode, or even season, about that would have been interesting.

    I’ve never watched Voyager (or much Star Trek past the original series for that matter), but I can already tell that THIS is who seven of nine is supposed to be, not that cliche hardened space vigilante abomination from Picard. This is SO much better!
