Another reason to get a hesacore: if you are someone who switches paddles often, it's a very familiar feel every time you switch. There is no need to adjust to the feel of a new handle. Makes picking up a new paddle that much "easier".
that's great except it would mean a lot of work on your end to change grips. and for every paddle you want to be able to rotate between, you'd need to buy another hesacore.
Few other reasons you might want a Hesacore: 1. If you prefer a thicker grip, but don't want to 2x overgrip or don't like the stock grip shape (Ronbus for me). 2. If your hands get really sweaty, the "locking" feature of Hesacore helps.
Such a needed review! The different options are so overwhelming and so many people that own them don't even put any thought into which one they bought. I love my hesacores! The carbon one is my favorite so far because I get the best feel. I find that the others dampen too much. But I have used the gel one on stiff paddles like the spartus apollo to dampen it on purpose.
Honestly I don’t love hesacores on pickleball paddles but they are an absolute must in Padel. In padel the balls are much heavier and any off center shot will 100% make the paddle twist in your hand and the hesacore really locks your hand in and massively improves its resistance to twisting, sweet spot, and just generally makes your wrist hurt less from not having to grip so hard. Imo the biggest downside to the hesacore grips is that they make it much harder to grip the paddle in different ways essentially locking you in to 2 possible grips that you can change between being straight continental and straight eastern so if you like to hold on the bevel between continental and easter like ben johns does at the kitchen or hold a more extreme eastern close to a semi western like a lot of pros do for forehand drives and drops now you can’t. However in padel because you never hit top spin drives, you occasionally hit roll drops or top spin overheads, you don’t ever need to hold eastern. On the contrary since virtually every ball is either flat or with slice from ground strokes to volleys to bandejas, ganchos, and viboras, the primary types of overheads, virtually every single shot is hit in a standard continental grip and the hesacore really locks you in to that super consistent and solid continental grip.
I occasionally switch from my Six Zero Ruby (more of an all court) to my Thrive Azul (more power and pop) but the Azul felt a little harsh in my hands making the soft shots and resets more difficult.. When I added a white Hesacore grip to my Azul, it significantly softened the feel in my hands and helped me with my softer shots. I think part of the reason is you tend to grip the paddle less tight with the softer ridges on the grip. Glad to hear you can reuse these which makes them a little more economical.
I've been using these for almost a year. Love the basic white. I'm fairly new to pickleball, but have a tennis and racquetball background. For me I really love the help they give me indexing the paddle in different grips. They also really helped me with grip pressure to not grip so hard. Easier on the hands and better for soft shots.
I have them on my Paddletek TKO. Reduced the shock/vibration which is great, but the grips constantly slide as up im playing. I had to use double sided tape
Thank you! I like how you demonstrated 5.25" Hesacore on a 6" paddle! I have a 6" handle but I prefer the blue gel grip which is 5.25" AND you mentioned we can 'reuse' the Hesacore !!! Perfect! I am going to switch the old one to the new paddle!!!
I saw someone with a hesacore and thought I would give it a try and love these things. I have it on all 5 of my paddles. I am using the carbon small on my new Joola 3s paddle and it feels and plays great. Why I like them is that I keep changing my grip every shot so this just makes me feel comfortable that I have the right grip position when hitting the shot. So that is why I am hooked. Also I used hand sanitizer on the paddle handle and some on inside the hesacore grip and it goes on really easy.
Nice video. 1) instead of rubbing alcohol....i use hot water with a few drops of dishwashing liquid. It takes a bit longer to dry....but doesn't have that smell hah. 2) I play the hesacore without an overgrip....and I have had zero issues with slipping even on the hottest days in ATL. I like the max amount of texture on the grip. 3) to keep the hesacore from slipping....I put superglue around the butt of the grip under the hesacore...works great.
I have a 6.0 double black diamond (thanks to you Chris), since it has a bad grip, I just did a hesacore a week ago and it now feels how it should. My selkirk power air epic doesn't need a hesacore since it has the right grip already. Both paddles I run a yonex super grap dry (absorption type) and I'm a fan.
Not a Hesacore question but an overgrip question. How tacky are the Luqi overgrips. I'm looking for something that isn't too tacky. Which of the Luqi overgrips provide good grip/prevent slipping when sweaty without being overly tacky -- Ultimate, Supreme, or Super Dry? Thanks for any opinions/personal experience.
I’m a fan. I have eastern grip and makes it easier to change my grip when I need to for backhand flicks. Feels like I grip a little lighter when I have one on too. I like the feeling of always knowing where I’m at on the grip without looking. 🤷🏼♂️
I feel like I can control my J2K just a little bit better by being able to feel certain grooves. I do feel like you presented all the important considerations very well and wouldn't just tell someone to buy one without trying it first. I'll let someone play with my paddle for a bit to see if it is immediately feeling good or bad for them. Thanks for another first rate presentation. Hesacore should put this on their website.
Pro tip. Remove ALL glue residue left from the original grip before applying. It makes a difference putting it on and it really makes a difference if you ever take it off.
@@loristonfennell141 I found that I could peel it off with just my nail. I just know that most people get excited and neglect that step. I know I did at first. Even in some of the shots from this vid it looks like Chris didn't invest the time to get it all off either lol. If you can't get it with your nail I would try alcohol before goo gone. I doubt it would mess up your handle but I would be cautious. The reason people use alcohol is because it evaporates off quickly and predictably. Idk how goo gone will react or stay on your paddle you know?
@justicesarte9812 Yeah for sure. There was a lot with mine, I ended up just putting packing tape over the glue so it was a smooth surface, worked just fine.
Just want to add another reason to get one, is if you HATE the grip on your paddle.. as someone who hates the oval 006 and the joola grips, these were a lifesaverrrrrrr
I think one of the biggest things for me has been a similar feel from paddle to paddle. On top of that my hands sweat a lot less with them which is one of my biggest pros. I have noticed thinner paddles (14mm Magnus 3s) have smaller handles and I have a little bit more issue installing and getting them to feel right. I’ve used them for the past 8 months but that paddle can’t get it to sit right
My issue was that I would grip my paddle too tight. The hesacore helps thicken the handle a bit more and allows me to have a looser grip. I now have them on all my paddles!
I've used Hesacore for a while, but I stopped using them because I have different grips at the baseline and the NVZ (semi western and continental). It's hard for me to find the right "place" of the grip because with Hesacore, it's hard to judge what bevel I was at.
Great information. I use the hexacore cause of my sweaty hands for more grip so the paddle doesn’t slip out of my hand and it hit someone in the face!😂
Just played with the pink XS for the first time (4.5). Im mixed, I think due to the squish of it, I had a hard time with the net reset/block shots. However, I was nailing ground strokes as well as I ever have. Ill be taking it off for a tournament now, but will mess with it more.
I had a similar experience. My dinks went to trash immediately because I lost a ton of feedback/feel with the Hesacore. The good news is that means it is for sure dampening vibration (good for tennis elbow) but I could not deal with the loss of feel and took it off after one session.
I tried Hesacore, didnt vibe with me. Actually ended up removing the stock grip as well and just using an over grip. Making it thinner makes it feels like I've got faster hands. OT might want to raise your camera a tab bit so your eyes are on the top line on the grid which will align your eyes better with the camera. Your camera is too low and we end up looking up your nose
This might be out of the realm of pickleball but I wonder if you could compare this to a leather grip. Similar in principal but way different in execution. Leather grips are what many tennis players use to improve hand feel and lower balance point on a racket.
I bought one. Liked it a lot but could have gotten what I wanted by just putting 2 overgrips. 2 overgrips dampen and give me a bigger grip. Just an fyi.
Just a heads up… played the white 5.25….. the grip is heavy and changes the paddle balance point…making it more head light … if you are a slice cap user… the combo might have too much weight in the handle…one last thing.. I reused the grip several times … it does stretch out over time…
I tried a hesacore because my hands get very sweaty and even the tackiest overgrips end up getting slippery. While the hesacore does help 'lock in' my grip it also tends to trap sweat in the hexagon voids. I can squeeze the handle and sweat will ooze out and down on to my paddle or wrist. I ended up taking it back off for that reason alone.
FOR YOUR UPCOMING BALANCE POINT DEEP DIVE VIDEO: Please test leather grips!! Replacing ypur stock grip with a leather one for a slightly thinner grip circumference, more defined bezels and wayyy more weight that's evenly loaded into the handle of the racket is what almost every pro and high-level player has been doing for decades. What do you guys think about the viability of putting a leather base grip (cut down a tennis grip) on a pickleball paddle? I love it, but you almost 100% have to put an overgrip on (making your overall grip size slightly larger than the non-overgripped stock grip) so that it doesn't slide around when your hands are sweaty.
Ehhh - they aren't a game changer for me. If you like a heavy paddle with a lower balance point (and don't want to buy the weighted butt caps) these make it easy to add lead to the handle.
Another reason to get a hesacore: if you are someone who switches paddles often, it's a very familiar feel every time you switch. There is no need to adjust to the feel of a new handle. Makes picking up a new paddle that much "easier".

4 paddles here and each one has a Hexacore. Made switching between paddles super easy.
