  • Daivergent is a new startup that hires people with autism to train artificial intelligence - and helps them start independent careers. Subscribe: freeth.ink/you...
    When Byran Dai’s mother passed away, he knew that he was responsible for helping support his brother with autism. After people with autism turn 21, they often encounter the “support cliff,” after which they stop receiving many forms of government support. The statistics for autism in adulthood are stark - of the 2.5 million people with autism in the United States, 85% are unemployed. A data scientist by trade, Byran had an idea. He knew some people on the autism spectrum, like his brother, had particular strengths that made them well suited to training next-generation AI used in things like self-driving cars. What if he started a company that hired people from the autistic community for jobs helping businesses with specialized AI training? It could help provide independence, employment, and the start to a career for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) - all while helping push the envelope of artificial intelligence. Today, he's CEO of Daivergent, a company dedicated to "unlocking the unique aptitude of people on the autism spectrum, connecting companies to a high-quality workforce through its innovative remote work platform." In this video, we meet him and some of the workers with autism who discuss the impact it has had on their lives.
    What do you think? If you have high functioning autism or an autism spectrum disorder, would this be interesting to you? Let us know what you think in the comments and subscribe for new videos every week.

    Are there other unique ways people with special needs can thrive in the workforce?

    • @OfficialAfflection
      @OfficialAfflection 5 лет назад +3

      Sure! Within IT, programming and more. It really depends on what type of special needs they have. Awesome video, love you guys

      Having Autism myself I can think of quite a few. Not one person with Autism is the same as the other (hence why it's a Spectrum Disorder), so you could have us in IT working on AI (as shown in the video), testing of any type (games, web development, User Experience etc), Scripting (JavaScript, C languages, Python). Then you can go into the field of Management or Arts of any kind and see that we have people there, as OfficialAfflection says it really depends on what type of special needs we have.

    I've just recently applied for Daivergent after receiving an Autism diagnosis not too long ago. This kind of work seems perfect for satisfyingly stimulating my brain. The psychologist who diagnosed me also had me take an IQ test and I learned that my mental processing speed is in the 97 percentile and my perceptual reasoning is in the 94 percentile, so I think that the sort of work that Daivergent's clients would offer are those that I would excel in as well. I have a lot to offer and I hope that I can be accepted!

    As long as they get paid the same amount of money as neurotypical people.

    Gives me hope for my children some day I enjoy stumbling upon these new opportunities. I'm currently an 30year old woman with ADD had it since childhood. I have two sons, my oldest son has ADHD and my younger son who's diagnosed with autism and I will say from my experience they are both very intelligent and someday I hope they can have opportunities. This was wonderful to see, thank you everyone deserves a chance.

    Google is already using internet users to do this via those captcha quizes, they kept asking me about cars, bicycle, signs. But seems this is a little detailed

      Interesting. Yeah, this is probably more detailed--and of course not every company has Google's ability to access millions of people to do the work for them :)

    Give those people real desks and real computers instead of making them work elbow to elbow on laptops slapped down on one long table. Either you respect them as people or you don't.

      Autism doesn’t effects a person intelligent. It only impairs the ability to communicate and interact.
