34:40 nissa actually gets +4! Even though doubling season cant replace the cost for the ability, it can replace vorinclex’s replacement ability (see rule 614.16). So what happens is: Nissas ability is activated (1 counter), vorinclex replaces nissas ability cost (2 counters), then doubling season replaces vorinclex (4 counters), leaving nissa with 4 extra counters. Magic is hard!
On the bright side, the fact that Nissa would have gone that high didn't make an effective difference in the game since her ultimate would have just pulled out 4 lands from Jimmy's deck (looking at the board state/hand/decklist, that was how many "forests" were still in the deck), and there was no way for him to use that to gain life or draw more cards (since he did have a couple outs in the deck to draw).
Jimmy and Josh both have habits of getting themselves killed by flying too close to the sun, but they're still different habits (Jimmy by spending life and overcrowding his board early, Josh by drawing his entire deck when he has half a chance), and that's kinda beautiful.
Vorinclex interacts with planeswalkers, too - Jimmy's should have doubled how many were being placed on them, and Arin's Tezzeret wouldn't get anything (half of +1, rounded down). The Great Henge wouldn't place counters on things, either. EDIT: Except, Vorinclex is phased out for some of that. Wouldn't affect it when he's not there, obviously.

Fun fact about enemy planeswalkers and Vorinclex: So enemy planeswalkers are effected by Vorinclex. Since the wording on the creature is slightly different than doubling season. Doubling season cares about effects which is why the cost of planeswalkers are not effected but Vorinclex cares about the player so when you pay the cost to place a counter for the +1 on tezzeret you actually place half that many rounded down since you are the one placing the counters. Just to clear up poor wording above. Vorinclex reduces the plus abilities of planeswalkers not just the amount they enter with.
yep! that means that tezzeret would never go up in loyalty, since it's rounded down, which means that josh couldnt gain life from tiamat unless he swung at a player because tezzeret would be dead.
@@portalmasterlp453 though true, at the time the great henge was played all of Jimmy's board was phased out therefore those counters would still be placed normally.

hell yes queen
I'm actually very thankful for Josh pointing out Doubling Season and their interaction with Planeswalkers. Bamboozled me there for a second.
The homage to The Big Short with Craig in the bathtub was the greatest thing Game Knights has done up to this point, and I couldn't be happier watching it.
Genuinely I loved this episode because Arin’s experience is pretty much my experience half of the time despite probably overstocking my decks with land
Arin somehow made getting stomped and getting royally diddled by his draws look fun. His energy is so infectious, great guest.
He had som great Lines and jokes too!
Arin Hansen finally got on the show! been waiting since their mtg 10 minute power hour.
Can you please have mr hanson back on the show, i would like to see him participate more
This is my favorite episode of Game knights, I know I'm a year late on saying this, But thank you game knights by bringing a smile on my face and making me feel better when times are tough, as a 15 year old Commander player it's really hard to have a good deck, but most of the other FNF players at the store I go to, love my really fun deck, It's the only deck I have but I love it, just like these videos, If you read this probably really badly typed comment, I thank you for your time and thank Game Knights for their years of intertainment
I love the "The Big Short" reference at 33.54, best Game Knights episode for me
Please have Arin and Dan on together in an episode sometime!
Happy Holidays to you Josh and Jimmy and everyone on Game Knights, thank you for another great year of Magic videos :)
I like how Jimmy lost a game knight IMMEDIATELY after making a video on why he losses game knights so much 😂
good point^^
And almost 100% because he "went off too early"
It was staged
@@anthonyluu4122 because?
@@paperkid8865 It wasn't staged, but he definitely would have won if he played Atraxa before he was dead. Josh has stated that occasionally they will not play "optimally" in order to increase the drama of the video. It's a soft staging, rather than actually scripting a game.
My comfort episode. I love both the guest, been a fan of Game Grumps for years ❤️❤️
This episode can be perfectly summarized as a "Barrage of Beautiful Blunders"
Now do an episode with Danny! :)
Two headed giant commander with Dan and Arin against Jimmy and Josh. That would be awesome
@@Mystic_Sanctum Or Danny and Brian 😍
No
Danny is a classic mtg player, he'd be a good one
@@LoveBystroem dude used to play all the time, he played thousands on thousands of games. He'd just need a crash course on edh
9:55 Olivia dam! I have to start working out again
but not gonna lie the most eye catching person was josh who won against you with that incredible suit
I like how they used the monarch card that has the missed word on it. "At the beginning *of* your end step, draw a card."
This is also number 50 of episodes thanks Josh and Jimmy for bringing us joy
Thanks for all the high-quality content! Have been rewatching each of the episodes multiple times and enjoyed every session and every guest :)
I actually started cry laughing at the amonkhet invocation bit
I love Olivia and her personality, she’s so fun to watch, I’m glad to see her back! ❤️
Would have been a special Blingmas with DJ and Cassius. They love the bling!!
Happy holidays everyone!
Hey! Thanks for the comic shout out! (I am teh artist on the book) We are all big Magic fans, and are working with great respect and love on this comic!
"Confidence is a slow and insidious killer" RIP Jimmy
The amount of money being thrown around in this game is insane.

@@nanya524 thank you very much sir, Mines more planeswalker focus but I'll always love seeing another list to help influence mine.
lol love that second comment
@@nanya524 Interesting, in built mine as a reanimator shell with some Bolas flavour
Loved the intro! Reminds me of the community ep where everyone tells a halloween story
We actually brought that episode up when we were pitching the idea!
Josh: "Wheres the borders, theres no borders, i can reach as far as i want!" *Reaches out of frame so that the video border crops out both of his hands* lol
Arin is me in every (EVERY) game of Commander I play. :D
Arin really made the episode so much more enjoyable and funny hope he comes back
I absolutely love Arin's energy in this episode
Loved the game, i reckon we have to get Arin and MTGNerdGirl on an episode together so they can get their revenge and actually play
The redemption of the jeskai!
Olivia saying "I'm in danger!" like Ralph Wiggum is hilarious 😂
She’s an annoyance
Joe did it too. I think it was in the Commander Legends episode where everyone used partner commanders.
@@yosefzanerva806 yea on i hate your deck, he did it a few times, its funny 🤣
WOOOAAHHHH ARINNNNN!!!!
Also each deck must be like 200 billion dollars
Arin's Narset is the funniest thing I've seen since Jimmy's Hermit Druid.
I was wondering why Arin wasn't giving much commentary for the first few turns, and I had the image in my mind that he ws holding some crazy interaction. Turns out, he was just dead in the water and had nothing to talk about.
I really enjoyed seeing Arin on the show, he was a great guest. I hope he comes back for a redemption at some point.
PLEASE invite Arin back! Give him another chance, what an absolute brick, so unlucky poor guy!
I wish Arin could come on all the time. He’s so charismatic!
I feel like this episode is just a representation of that one meme with the gods sitting in the chairs watching a small human try to do what they do, with Arin being the human and the others as the gods.
Rookie mistake not writing down the cards Josh has in his hand-that was a whole lot of solid info. Josh is the king of "In response" and having access to his hand is everything. I don't Jimmy could have won, but he definitely didn't have to die first.
