    This final, played to a draw, and the subsequent replay, were both broadcast by the then fledgling ESPN in the U.S. I watched it and was utterly transfixed. Great sporting drama.

    The Spurs strip here is the greatest of all time.

    They don't show it properly here right at the start, but that Hoddle tackle that led to the goal was a certain straight red card. Both feet off the ground, studs showing, and left the player flat out.

      As a Spurs fan I totally agree, but if you won the ball it was legal back then as was the tackle from behind.

      @@Hoopspur The tackle from behind was outlawed before then. There was a big crackdown on foul play in about 1971 or 1972.

    Was rooting for the Hoops then, they really gave it a go, but history kind of repeated itself for Spurs.
    20 years earlier Spurs retained the Cup. Among the scorers was their talisman Blanchflower who scored from the spot.
    In 1982 it would their then midfield maestro Hoddle who would prove the difference between the teams and he too scored from the spot.

    I went to both matches, I remember the final well. The Saturday game, it was rainy. The game on the Thursday should have won. We had a goal disallowed. Micklewhite scored. I'm QPR, but I use to go to WHL when I was a lad, and I've always had a soft spot for Tottenham...

      Perfectly good goal for Micklewhite, spurs should have won first game, rangers the second.

    • @developer101
      @developer101 4 года назад +2

      Allan Stack Yes, that goal should have stood. I was a lad back then I had a mate that worked at Wembley, so I was able to get into the players lounge after the second match. I got all the lads signatures Simon Stainrod to Gary Waddock, Peter Hucker. I’m a Queens Park/Kilburn lad, and the R’a are the local team. The next season I went to almost every home game and a few away. I remember I went the Hawthorns the following season in the 3rd round of the cup. I went to a lot of games the year we got promoted...
