I’m 50 now. I live in Canada. I was born and raised in England during the 70’s and 80’s. Tottenham was my team. Those were my boys. Glenn Hoddle, Steve Perryman, Garth Crooks, Steve Archibald, Osvaldo Ardelas, Ricky Villia and Micky Hazzard. I never saw my boys again, but man did that team fill my heart with pride and joy.

First FA Cup Final I watched. I was a neutral and seemed to remember City being the better side.

Hutchinson probably has nightmares to this day, but it was all Gerry Gow's fault. His twatting about on the ball at 17:23 and then the stupid foul he gave away a few seconds later cost City dear. City played the perfect game up until that point and were 10 minutes away from winning the cup.

I went to this game with my brother on his birthday, we are both Spurs supporters. This is how I got the 2 tickets for the final. Me and my then girlfriend went to the Spurs v Norwich league game a few days after winning the semi final v Wolves, on entry to the match we were both given a ballot card each, I'm pretty sure the cards were green with letter O. What you had to do was phone up a number some days later to see if your cards had won, which mine had, then send off for the cup final tickets, £3.50 each. Got them back some days later, in the thinnest envelope that I have seen before. Not a bad day out but rather had gone to the replay.

The fact that not one City player went over to Hutchinson to sympathise with him shows just what a different breed of footballer existed then. Now it would be counselling sessions and given a month off to get over it!!

Does anyone know if footage of the whole first game has ever been released? Would like to see the whole thing. Only 56 minutes of highlights on the original 1989 BBC VHS video, and even less (25 minutes here) on the ILC DVD

Must have been a Spurs fan who put these highlights together. City had three golden chances at 1-0, including Reeves hitting the post and Mackenzie rounding the keeper and putting it wide of an empty net, and yet they are deemed not worthy of showing. This video is a poor reflection of the game.

Why did they both say he scored at both ends? He scored both at the tunnel end.

Just read a book about a City lad 'Sully' about robbing the services all the way to London and battling the Spurs fans. Great to watch this game after reading that.

Poor Tommy Caton.Another excellent player who fell victim to the booze when his career ended prematurely.
