You are adorable, your tutorial is so easy to follow.... Watching your videos as they come up in my feed... Sorry for going back.. And all over the place... Love you and your videos thank you. 🌞
Hi Joy I’m back again. Received some beautiful Lulu Lemon stretch style fabric from Peggy Sagers, bought the Clara PDF and made up my Leggings following your tutorial. They turned out awesome hubby really liked them too. Thank you for sharing. Have a fabulous weekend. Val🇨🇦🇬🇧❤️
Hi Joy - You are the BEST teacher ever. I don’t sew clothes and with the pattern and fabric - I can make these leggings! It helps so much when you show how and what you are doing. Not every tutorial does that. Most of the time you leave more confused than when you started watching a clothing tutorial. You get an A+++++ on everything!!! Thank you so very much for taking time to do this for all of us. Bonus is that you get a new pair of leggings!!! Big Big Hugs!!!🤗🤗🤗 I’m going to make some of these. Awesome job! 🦋🧵😍
Thank you Joy ...that was such a clear and well presented tutorial . I know how much effort and skill it must take to do such a good job . A generous spirit to share with us all ....
Hi Joy, have watched so many of your videos. This is the first time I have commented. I so enjoy the excellent teaching and the humor!! This was one of the best tutorials you have done. You made it very easy to see exactly what you have done and the stitching you have done. Not too detailed, just enough. Really great job of teaching. Thank you.
tytyty Joy …..just got my PDF pattern from Jallie...a few months back I received 3 other patterns from Jallie stretch pants …..lol....but iam going to do the leggings first....first time sewing pants...so wish me luck....the way you showed us in this video I think I can do....as I am a quilter....I will show you when I finish can't wait for the next video ...take care Joy and ty again
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I have been a quilter for over 30 years and recently I have been trying to sew my own clothes without success. I think I can do these leggings! Thanks again!
You are such a "Joy" to watch. I'm so glad you are back at making daily videos! I've missed them. I started making the Jalie patterns when you first did your blue and white Jalie jeans. I love her patterns! Keep them coming!
Thank you Joy for the excellent video. It made it so much easier to sew together. I used the 42 inch hip, perfect but my legs seem to be too tight so I decided to cut the side and add a band of material a different colour. Next pair I will make a wider leg.
Thank you Joy. I am one of the requesters for this tutorial. Am anxious to get started on mine tomorrow. You threw in some additional very helpful tips.
Great video Joy, you make it look easy. Oh yes, every elastic is different. Wow that went together get fast, who knew? They look beautiful too. I just might have to get that pattern.
Thanks sooooo much for this tutorial. I ordered the pattern and can’t wait to try it. I’m so glad you showed the tricky parts. No camel toe wanted! I love wearing these around the house and camping. I also use them for long johns when layering for the cold winters. Luv you. 💕
Great job with this tutorial, Joy. Fun, fun, fun. You missed your calling girl; you are a natural teacher! The added bonus is that you look lovely in the leggings. Really like this pattern as it is quick and easy. As well as doing them in various knits I have also made them in Menky with long sleeved tees to match.....YES....Menky and believe me they are much appreciated tonight. We are experiencing a snow storm and it is a mere -6C with freezing rain to arrive by morning. Oh to be a "snow bird" right now. Keep on keeping on!
Awesome instructions! I want the pattern, similar knit fabric, lol. Hope Jalie people give you free patterns. Love, love. Happy Valentine's day Thanks for sharing
Excellent, excellent!!!!!!! You are a great instructor!! Please please keep the videos coming. If ever my husband and I are in your area I would love to meet you. May God continually bless you. Dee Murphy
I bought a knit dress kit, you have inspired me to sew with knit. I was successful but I need to practice on binding the neck and arm holes. Thanks Joy!
What a lovely tutorial! Specialy pointing out the very first step, being choosing the right type of stretch fabric. That brings me to my question: what kind and size needle do you use? And does this needle do a good job on the elastic? I often have trouble (looping threads e.g.) sewing over elastic. Thank you!
If the thread rubs against the strands of rubber in your elastic, that rubber can pull harder on the thread than your tension discs do and your take-up lever can't pull the thread up snug to the fabric-- thus loops of top thread on the underside of your fabric. A needle with a deeper groove above the eye (a topstitch needle, if you're working on wovens), or a larger needle, can keep the rubber strands from pulling on your top thread; then the tension and take-up lever can do their job and you won't have so many loops under your elastic. You can also try increasing the tension on your top thread. Experiment on scraps and make sure the threads aren't too tight in your fabric-- especially in stretchy fabric. There are also needles specifically for synthetic knits. I don't know how they are different from the normal ballpoint needles, but I get fewer skipped stitches on high-stretch synth knit if I use the needles designed for that fabric.
Joy , why would you want the waist band ? If the pattern shows it without the waist band why on earth would you want to go through making the extra steps ? Love your way of teaching ! Bless you .....
Joy, Thank you so much for this tutorial. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It may not be professional, but it is great. For the visual learner you made everything perfectly clear and easy to understand. Good job! God Bless.
Hi Joy. I am not a seamstress but am a quilter. I love this tutorial. Those look easy enough that I could even make those. I love all your tutorials and stories. When you were doing this tutorial I got a chuckle because you kept saying I'm sorry about lighting or sorry for whatever. For a minute there I thought you might be Canadian like me. I'm sorry just had to put that in.
OK, you talked me into it. I have the stretch material just hanging around waiting for me to get with it and I just needed the right pattern. I'll make them this weekend! Great video as always Joy!
Your tutorials are more fun, Joy, and very good! Thanks for this, and thanks for the shoutout! Hugs to you. People adore Jalie and they look like a great pattern! (Your sunny sewing room is so pretty.)
Thank you Joy, as always a learning experience. Unfortunately I can’t wear leggings as I am knock need 😄. I truly appreciate all the work you do on our behalf. God Bless
What a great tutorial! I got the pattern and now waiting to get my fabric! So nice when I get ready to sew them I can just watch your video!!!!!!!! Thank you so much, you are the greatest!!!! I ordered the fabric with spandex and 4 way stretch you had on your other video, Thanks
I am a new subscriber to your channel. I want to get what I need to start sewing with this fabulous system. Have you ever done a tour of your sewing space? It looks fantastic.
Hi Joy You are such a great teacher, I want to make these so I'm going to get the pattern. I love your chicken pin cushion, how cute. I love the clothes you make and wear. Thanks so I for sharing.
Joy great tutorial everything I need to know about this pattern you have explained. Thank you for taking the time to share with us. Have a great day. Val 🇨🇦🇬🇧❤️
Great video, you are an excellent teacher.. just one thing, you did not do the leg hems?? Do you have a favourite oversize shirt pattern you like to wear over your pants?? I looking for one x
Just finished my leggings! It only took me 4 1/2 hours to make. Your instructions for the gusset were very clear, after I got the first half sewed in and zig zagged in place it looked great! When I tried to match it up with the other side of the crotch I discovered that I had sewed it to the wrong end of the crotch seam. The front of the gusset was at the waste. Most of my time making the leggings was spent ripping out the gusset. Lesson learned!
Guess who’s rushing to the computer to get the Jalie. Lol Thanks so much for entertaining while teaching. I don’t often watch a complete teaching video - I usually stop early or fast forward through parts. Nope, not this time! Watched the entire thing! Which fabric (content) are you enjoying the best for these leggings? And do find it at a particular store most consistently? Thx bunches!
Hi Joy, I have this pattern but have not sewen it up yet, but you have encouraged me to do so. I also really like your top you are wearing. Did you make this, if so what pattern was it made from? You also have a lovely sewing room with allot of space that is really nice. Keep up the good work!
Joy, you are just great.I am a widow now and watching you brightens my day. I wish I lived near you, your personality is so uplifting. ZI want to know if there is a pattern for that darling pincushion? I will try the leggings and pajamas. Thank you sooooo much.
Hi Joy. I finally ordered the sure fit designs patterns from Glenda. I am so excited to get them and give them a try. Any pointers you can give me would be greatly appreciated since you have use the pattern system for so long I thought you might have some good tips.
Plan to have a day to yourself. Quiet time. You need a clear head so you can read and follow instructions carefully. Have someone measure you, if you can. Remember to measure from your neck to your shoulder tip and make that correction on your pattern. I usually have to move mine back 1/4" from Glenda's dot. Be sure you measure with your usual underwear. Important for the shoulder to apex measurement. Expect to not be disappointed if it doesn't come out the first time, and plan to be super ecstatic if it does come out right the first time! (-: I spend one day just drawing and cutting out the paper pattern. I cut out the fabric and start sewing the next day.
I love your videos, Joy. One question, as I’m just beginning to become interested in garment sewing (because of your videos). What is the difference between “Sure Fit Designs” and “Fit Nice.” Would really appreciate your input before I invest on one or the other. I value your opinion. Thank you.
Great video! I will have to get the pattern! I watched your elastic tutorial in which you were sewing on your bernina 700 series machine; I am in awe of how quiet the machine is! I have gone to eBay and found a used 400 series that I am contemplating purchasing when I don’t really need another machine. Lol. You must be using your new Baby Lock mainly for embroidery, is that correct? Which machine do you prefer quilt piecing on? God bless.
Joy, I’m new to Sergers and Coverstitch machines. Couldn’t you use those to do the sewing instead of the zigzag on your regular machine? Great tutorial. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing. I also don't see the need to clip the gosset area because of the stretch in the material. That's just my opinion though. But it turned out beautiful. 👏👏👏👏👏
You and Viv have to stop! ~ had to have the chicken pattern and the Jalie -leggings and pull on jeans. It was bad enough to have to add to my fabric stash with Viv, now you have me getting patterns. LOL.
Thank you so much for this Joy. This will be a great beginner bottom project for me. Question...and it maybe in the directions so if it is i apologize (I do not have the pattern yet), when you are sewing the gusset on, before the zig zag finish, do you just use a straight stitch for that part or is it a stretch stitch? Ohhhh 1/4 seams is perfect, I’ve got that one down to a science from quilting lol.
That was a excellent video! Thank you so much. Please do more like this. You are a great teacher.
Don't really know how I ended up here but have just spent last two hours being totally engrossed and entertained love your blogs x
Isn't life amazing? That your parents decided to name you Joy and how appropriate. Keep up the Joyful work for all of us who really enjoy you.
You are adorable, your tutorial is so easy to follow....
Watching your videos as they come up in my feed... Sorry for going back.. And all over the place...
Love you and your videos thank you. 🌞
Thank you Joy for actually showing how to lay out, cut out and instructions on sewing this especially the gusset as I’ve never done one of those.
Hey Joy, I’ve gone back to watch this video (2/19) something NORMAL before Covid 19! I needed your happy personality, THANKS! M🍀

Great tutorial Joy, thank you.

Excellent teacher!! Love it!
thank you for the tutorial, I truly enjoyed and learned from it.
Will you adapt me and re-teach me how to sew? I'm still voting for you to make sewing DVDs. This is so clear!
By the way joy, do you have a pattern for the chicken?? She is adorable!
Dee Murphy
Nice black and white top you have on in his video. Is it a SURE FIT DESIGNS pattern?
Not sure what pattern I used for that one. Thank you for the compliment.
You are such a good teacher 😊 always wanted to try and make leggings. Doesn't look to hard. I will try to make a pair for me lol love your videos ❤
You are very fun. You make me laugh. Why is it we can go buy ready wear for a particular size and it fits every time but not patterns ?
Well, I certainly cannot buy RTW that fits me at all. I can find stretchy pants that fit sometimes -- like leggings.
Thank you so much joy for the helpful information. Can we talk if I have problems?
Thank you so much for this Joy. This will be a great beginner bottom project for me. Question...and it maybe in the directions so if it is i apologize (I do not have the pattern yet), when you are sewing the gusset on, before the zig zag finish, do you just use a straight stitch for that part or is it a stretch stitch? What kind of thread do you use for stretch fabric. You have a great personality. hugs
Love the chicken! What is she stuffed with?
I just watched your video. The questions that arose while you were making the leggings are answered in Jalie’s Cora leggings.
Joy you are such a Blessing, try Irish Cream in your coffee, it's yummy!
Thank you. Great tutorial!
Hi Joy this might be a silly question but is there a certain kind of thread you use when making clothes??
