Estimates from Jim Shooter, Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief at the time, are that 94% of Marvel’s sales in 1979 were on the newsstands, while 6% were in comic book shops.
Not generally a 9.8 buyer but I'd rather have the wrap nice and straight w a lower grade than a higher grade with an off center wrap. If I bought that ASM 50 for that much money the off kilter wrap would really bug me, yes it would. ... Secondly I really want a nice LB Cole book one day, they are so cool.
It's a good time for comic books. Depends on which niche. I seen Golden age horror comics going hundreds to thousands over past auction sales. Newer Gi joes and transformers have been selling well. Once economy gets better, the market will be better
Not for nothing, Newstands were still available through LCSs in the late 80's and 90's. In Previews, the main order was for (d) Direct copies but there was always an option for (n) Newstand copies. The point is, collectors and dealers still had (and carefully preserved) newstands from comic shops in there collections. Maybe not a lot compared to actual news stands but there you have it.
Barcodes on post '78 comics has become a common "trope" now since novice collectors have accepted this oversimplificated approach to assigning value. An easy shortcut to perceive higher value whether its deserving or not.
Direct Editions should of went for more than the Newsstands. Funny thing too, is that collectors in 1979 and early 80's didn't like the look of the newsstands.
Asm 101 selling for 28k is crazy. I have a 9.6 and last sale is around 4600. The difference between a 9.6 and 9.8 is insane. I love the book and the character, it's a shame Sony screwed it up. Watching quite a few books at this auction, I really wish comic link would share or even sell their recorded sales to gpa and gocollect
@@BBoy770 well, they said they prefer to not report the sales, and GPA and others are not following all their results. So you have to report single results yourself. Why ComicLink does not do it, I am not sure.
Notice on the cover of ASM #50 how Spidey's horizontal webbing is going in 2 different directions on his 'gloves'? And it's going in entirely the wrong way on the back of his mask?
ASM #129 will continue to drop in all hrades as it is really more of a minor key with a high census population. The Punisher is a "B" list character at best, and collectors don't seem to be paying much attention to his first appearance. I would want an ASM #129, even if I could get it for a good deal. It just isnt worth it.
Everyone needs to stop calling it the comic boom, it is properly supposed to be referenced as the comic bubble, much like the housing bubble, because if you purchased something during that time you will never ever ever ever ever going to realize the too high funds you put out to get a comic book at that point
For me the wrap amd how the cover is cut determines if I'm willing to pay for a 9.8 or extra for the price. Some wraps are not worth the 9.8 price imo.
I do t feel people are jumping in the pool there are a few people that grab those books for high grade not everyone can pay those prices !! So when things come down the pipe and it’s high grade u get the big boys to come out but the reg comic guy anit grabbing that
@@VolkswagenGamer I m not talking for having some cool stuff, but having a collector s habit for rated books. It s nice to own a few of them, but this "market" is only for those who try to make their hobby a job and sending comics to CGC for grading for the purpose of resaling them.

#101 is not a square bound..102 is..ya I had to be that guy..Great vid.Thanks.

Cool, I got a double cover ASM #101 CGC 7.5 my friend bought for me at our local lcs as a raw copy. Might be the only double cover book in existence.
Thanks for highlighting these results! I always miss some of CL auctions and can't check them on GPA, so I appreciate your overview
Feds gonna cut rates next month. Hopefully my red hulk fomo breaks even 😬 😂
The “until your 90” line isn’t more true for Harrison Ford
Great content!!
ASM 101 isn't square bound, but 102 is.
I picked up the Adventure 247 1st Legion 5.5 for a nice price

I sure wish you'd decide to do this coverage after the auctions are over... lol. Well, except the crazy high-priced stuff on Heritage. Do those live.

Who ever bought the book (or buying) is a moron
Dumb question: why are comic link sales not included in fmv data?
they do not report the results.....as easy as that.
How come?
@@thomashoerschgens7934 wonder how hard it would be for GoCollect or others to simply scrape the results...

Stan Lee's signature placement on top of characters, was that his way of saying, "i created Spider-man. Not Ditko" or "I'm bigger than Spider-man"?
ditko created in his home, funny isnt it. Stan was a true coward
Looks like there is a lot of interest in Black Cat. AMS 194 selling like hot cakes.
ASM is not a square bound book. 102 is. When most marvel comics went picture frame.
So what is your take on the Fantastic Four 1 CGC 9.6 going up for auction on Heritage Sept 12-15 , 2024
Sig placement…Hahahaha…drives me nuts when over characters.
That ASM 14 is exactly why I hate signed books.
Imagine thinking you can tell stan where to sign something ... thats some nutts

Do we know why Comiclink is not included in the sales tracking apps?
The full Todd sells for more than tdog everytime.
101 is not sq bound, 102 is
7:33 such a gorgeous book
You should have come in doing the Spiderman 3 dance.
the Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. (1968), No. 1, looks really nice, perfectly centered, ends tonight :)
Stop bidding on my books!!!! 😂
The page quality wouldn't turn me off as much as the uneven wrap on the vision.
70's and early 80's Star wars comic books in high grades seem to be getting bought up by investors as of late

Signatures should be on the back covers.
ASM #101 is a cool book, despite the movie, but should it really be valued as much as an extension to my house?
Definitely not. Fake value imo.
Content creators had people sell off.. now its 🔥 again
The wrap on the vision is crap compared to a 9.2 copy I have in my pc.
What is the CVA sticker?
look it up
I really don't like signatures on covers.
FOOM MAGAZINE 2 to the MOON!!! Been calling it for the past two weeks check for my comment on the last few vids!
Prices will tank hard on most comics in the next 1-3 years.... wait til they all come back 9.9 and 10's lol
Yeah, I'm genuinely curious how 9.8s will do once more 9.9s come out, particularly for bronze, copper, and modern books
That black cat newsstand had a bad wrap for the price it went for.
Sup Swag

Most of us don't care about slabs. I really don't know why everyone is doing videos on them.
I think u should have said “some of us”, because they wouldn’t be making these vids if nobody was watching them.
You would be surprised. Maybe not us well educated RUclips folk but the masses love their 1:50 retailer exclusive 9.9s lol

It's still crazy to me that people who love comics are willing to spend so much on plastic, instead of using that to buy more comics
Why don’t you do this with raw copies? It’s actually more interesting to see the raw info.
