Definitely the best bike review I’ve seen. Thank you for your thoroughness. I’ve recently ordered the Vado 3.0 (bc that’s what I could afford at this time). Test drove it and fell in love, so now scouring the internet for information while I await a delivery in three months 🤦♀️ Specialized should hire you guys for reviews!
Alasdair and Rohan just found me a 5.0! Can't wait to get it next week. Where is that hill top trail Karen was riding? It looks SO cool, I want to check it out!
Just bought my Turbo Vado 4.0 SL last week! Your review sold this bike for me. Been having a blast and getting a much better workout than my other ebike. My only complaint is I only get abot 25 to 30 miles on a full charge and the range extender and cable system is pretty pricey. May have to wait till Christmas for that!
I knew it'd be only a matter of time before a super light ebike would hit the market. I just didn't think it'd be this soon!!! Great vid, guys! Cute kid! :)

According to Court (EBR), the battery is removable, however Specialized advises that ONLY a trained bicycle mechanic/professional do so. There is a charging port located on the frame, to which you connect your charger cable.
Thanks for the quality review. I'm definitely buying the 4.0 version. You rode around Cal Berkeley's campus! I thought it looked very familiar to me! :-)
Test riding this bike at the moment and I am really impressed with it. Best way to describe the bike's assistance is like a gentle push from behind when you need it. Steep hills are no longer something to avoid. Haven't played with smart control as yet.
Great review. Amazing how many desirable e-bikes are available now and this is yet another one for me as it looks similar to my Specialized bike that I currently own (based in UK). Well done keep up the great work. Wishing you safety and happiness
Got one. 4.0 not-EQ. No regrets. Huge range if you keep managing battery use, mind boggling with the extender. Speed limiter in UK is a bit of a disappointment but keeps you fit.
Nice overview, but 2 things, during the riding shots it looks like you have the saddle too high..... and I wish we could get the US version in Europe-our e-bikes are limited to 15mph by law otherwise they are classified as motor vehicles with all that that implies.
Hello there. Thanks for the great review. You didn't mention anything about the noise of the motor though. May I know how noisy you found it please? Thank you
Test road one today, motor a it louder than I expected, but you can ride this bike a lot without power. It really feels like a normal bike. No drag, not heavy, and noise free without boost. I used the power levels much less than expected on a very hilly test. Top notch!
Actual weight is closer to 37 pounds once built out and ride ready. But still, great to see ebikes getting lighter. That, in spite of weight not really a factor on ebikes. Prices are still too high. $3500 for the cheap model and $4500 for the better model.... Walmart has a Kent for $700 that puts out more power and weighs 47 pounds road ready. The Walmart Kent performs and shifts like a dream. Really amazing. Only saying this as there is a way for the big bike manufacturers to get their prices down. They are taking too much profit on ebikes right now by taking advantage of a premium market and buyer.
I was able to test ride one of these at your shop in San Francisco. Thank you! The light weight is really wonderful. However, this bike needs a more powerful motor to deal with the steep hills of San Francisco. It should work great on flat terrain, though!
Thanks for the info. I suspected so. Having lived in SF my home town in Wales makes some SF hills look a bit tame. I just watched a review of this by a Norweigan youtuber - he rode it up a hill and it just did not have the grunt to get far up it. He had to stop and go back down. But a Bosch motor powered bike whizzed up the same hill. Shame as the Vado SL is a lovely looking bike. Maybe in 2 or 3 years it will have a motor which is powerful enough for steep hills.
@@RoissyAngel I bought the Turbo Vado 5.0 SL a few weeks ago, and I think the bike was deliberately designed to NOT take over the ride. I live in San Diego, where one also encounters some steep hills. The motor provides noticeable help - I would say my overall rides are easier by about 25 to 30% - but the rider still has to provide the work. If your routes have serious hills, you will still be sore at the end, but not "dead."
@@moecat01 Thank you for letting me know. This is what I suspected so thank you for confirming it. It would be no good for me on my steep hills when I am taking my heavy shopping home. Otherwise, I hope that in a year or two they bring out one with a more powerful motor. I really appreciate you sharing your experiences. Very helpful. I hope you have lots of enjoyment from your new bike. It looks smashing.
Awesome video. I knew next to nothing about e-bikes, and this definitely peaked my interest. I have a Sequoia Elite, and this may well be my next bike!

Does it need a smaller chainring for steep hills? I live in Seattle, not as steep hills as San Francisco. The ride up from Shilshole Bay Marin to 85th st is a serious hill. I need pedal assist 3 on my 2018 RadCity for this and a couple other hills. The light weight of the Turbo Vado 5. SL is very enticing.
Very thorough analysis of this bike. I test rode the Como and liked how I sit upright yet it is heavy for me. Does this Vado style allow the handle bars to shift for more upright ride?
You could make adjustments, but my recommendation is waiting just a bit as I think you will find a bike in the near future that might be perfect a perfect combo of upright and lightweight. Stay tuned!
