I love these lessons. I have more than six guitars but I'm useless. Thanks for keeping me motivated!
You can do it bro!! ❤️🤘🏽
Hang in there. Things will start clicking.
Great lesson Rob! Love the way you teach and show practical application. I am fortunate to have more than 6 guitars and 2 of those are Chapmans!
Noice. That "Dweezil trick" makes so much sense.
I have watched a lot of guitar theory lessons on RUclips lately... this was by far the best. It finally makes sense.
Rob you are my teacher. Your lessons absolutely inspire me to pick up my guitar and play, noodle, learn and appreciate the grind that is so much fun. Thanks again!!
That makes me very happy Dude have a great Christmas and New Year :-)
A couple months ago, I was noodling around and discovered this same scale shape. I didn't know what mode it was, but I thought it sounded cool and started riffing on it. It's so cool that you made a video about this to let me know what mode it is. It's nice to know that my musical ear isn't off kilter.
Glad I could help!
Thanks Rob. I now know I knew it, but I didn't know I knew it until now. Kudos for teaching style.
Your lessons have helped me for years Rob, this was great thanks! Also that guitar is gorgeous, i might well need one 😂
Thanks for the lesson!
Thanks Chappers, these lessons are fantastic - I struggle to find anyone on line that’s as good as you are at teaching modes, scales etc. keep it coming 🙌🙌🙌
Glad you like them dude, thanks for watching :-)
Good lesson. Thanks.
Thank you so much!!! The Dorian mode makes so much more sense now!!!
Great lesson!
Thankyou Robert for Dorianising me........that perfect delivery method that I always grab for if I'm struggling with anything and this came along at exactly the correct moment.
Thank you for the private lesson. I really liked the personal style of this one.
I learn at least one thing if not more every time I watch one of your lessons. Thank you Chappers for all you do for us! 🤘
Thanks Rob this really helps break out of pentatonic scales much appreciated
Thank you!
Thanks. Motivating.
Thanks Rob for that lesson. Super useful 🙏
Rob, love your demos, love your reviews, but you're at your absolute best when you're explaining how to make music. Thanks for this!
Very useful. I do a lot of pentatonic stuff (all 5 boxes) and I’m looking for other stuff. Thanks for this.
Thanks, buddy! These are the videos I live for!
Great explanation, helped me take a step
Thanks Rob ,great teaching stuff , i hope to see some full publications of your courses. Keep on rocking mate and have a wonderful time on new year's eve. Cheers
Brilliant lesson and definitely useful. Very kind. Thanks.
Cheers Rob, I really enjoyed that lesson.
Well done Chaps. Delivered with a huge portion of humour and personality. Very enjoyable......thank you.
I knew it that Jimi always wanted Chapman! great video also:)
Neat! I am indeed bored of playing the same licks over and over.
Also, 5 electrics, 3 acoustics, 1 bass.
Loved this lesson! I've always noticed that you and be a had this special sauce but could never figure out what is! Gonna try working this into the minor pentatonic shapes 💯
Thanks for sharing this, Rob! Greetings from Mexico
Looking great Rob!
I'm a lefty and I'm in love with the MLV. Please bring it back!
That's a nice finish.
Great lesson and I learned something new at 49!!
It 'might' have been worth discussing how Dorian is a 'minor' sounding mode with a Minor root chord and how to build the relevant Dorian chords from the Dorian scale:
E Dorian - E F# G A B C# D
Therefore your Dorian chord structure would be:
I = Emin
II = F#min
III = G
IV = A7
V = Bmin
VI = C#dim
VII = D
Far too many people don't explain how each mode has its own chord structure built from the I, III & V notes (plus the VII, and extended notes 9, 11, 13).
For example, you're not going to play E Dorian over E major.
This is exactly the details i needed. thanks
@@CMQ01 you're welcome 👍
Hi Rob as soon as you mentioned Glenfiddich I was hooked. It just makes learning so much more fun haha. Brilliant Rob
4:18 MLV Left Handed - reissue please. ;-)
Thank you Rob for your lesson content ! I really appreciate your teaching method it’s clear and approachable . I would love to go to a guitar demo/clinic to watch you play sometime . Come to California❤
More like this please
Really cool. Didn't knew that I play in the Dorian mode... But I have to practice to get faster. Tank you for this lesson! 😊
What a beautiful red Guitar can't keep my eyes off it.
Thanks dude, it’s the new Chapman ML3 Pro Thin Line classic
Oh yes, I’ve been lusting over that one for a wee while now 😂❤
That V on the wall is gorgeous tho... From my very first day with the guitar in my hands, I was playing Dorian. How sick is that? I'm totally out of music theory. It is beyond my observable universe... But this came intuitively to me.
thanks
Wow...been playing that all my life, didn't know, don't care. Did 5 years of Music Composer Major in college in late ''60's and have been emptying my brain of all musical knowledge since then so I can hear the sound instead of think about the sound. Just one of the perks of being a "Got a real job" amateur. Love your guitars. Bought a bottle of Glenfiddich in late '80's: not a taste I appreciated. Embarrassed to admit only owning 12 guitars but a great variety: bass, short bass, 12 string electric, 4 acoustics of different sizes, the rest usual solid bodies. But, in my defense, a viola, 2 mandolins and a fiddle.
Two of my favourite YT guitar lessons (by anyone) are the ones you made 15 years ago, where you used this same technique to explain the modes. This is a great update, and I'm hoping that you go into more detail on the other modes in the same way. Apart from Locrian. Locrian is the Eggplant of modes.
Hah! I had that same thought. Kind of like when you see a reboot of an old movie that everyone else thinks is new. Now I'm going to have to go back and watch some old "Orange" videos just for fun.
I figured out Dorian a little while ago, the easiest way for me to think about it is its just minor with a major 6th. I first noticed that type of thing from Kim Thayil, he had a few licks using the major 6th in minor pentatonic solos that hooked me. Great lesson man!
Man the V... awesome axe chappers
Three guitars. Thanks bro. Keep them coming. Any help with theory really helps! 😂
educational video, but I kept getting distracted by that Chapman V! I need one 🤩
Maybe do a video of great pairings of different beverages to scales and music styles
Rob more of these please!! Harmonic Minor would be 👍
I liked this.
And I liked that I liked it.
That scale shape is pretty popular in 80s rock music. I found it there in various tab books back in the day.
I own that guitar in that colour ❤
Hey Rob... I am an intermediate guitarist that needs help. When you shred you are very good at not making a crazy person face. Me, I am told that I look like a feral human when I attempt to shred. Can you please make a video on how to control making a feral face? Thanks!
17 Chappers, and no I'm not finished yet 😂.
Thanks for the videos, good lesson ❤
I think the easiest way to learn the first modes is to nail the 5 patterns of the penatonic (lets say minor) scale, in for example E. In E from the the 12th fret you have the easiest box to learn Dorian or Aeolian pretty quickly. The rest will fall together eventually.
I'm a sort of stick to the scales I know kind of chap- Great video and an eye opener for me for sure- Especially the Monkey Shoulder 😂😂😂😂😂😂
14 😬 loved this video.
Loving these AI generated thumbnails. Especially the double width Marshall head. I would love to have that.
Thanks for the lesson Rob. Unfortunately on vacation with no guitar!
This lesson will last forever. Send me your progress when you get back :-)
13, btw…14s on the way, 15 will be probably announced at NAMM. What I lack in talent I make up for in guitar options. 🤷🏼♂️
Only have 9 at the moment but I have always wanted a V ya know.
Should the dorian be played over a major or minor chord? For example, if i was about to solo over an e minor, could i use dorian or should i be using Dorian over an E major?
Thanks Rob. How do you normally tune your guitar?
Hello, Rob!
dude i just thought this was the car out of back to the future until this vid
Rob, ✔️ I have just subscribed too 👍🤗🎸🎶
Lefthanded versions please.
Sadly I only have 2 guitars but I am just a bedroom guitarist so perhaps I still count?
Please try Żubrówka with apple juice. it will taste like apple pie. Cheers!
You know we want the V Rob.
He said a thing. Good.🤖
The MLV needs a return in 2024🙏🏻
Hey
27😊
Damn!!!
I have 12 but in needs to be 21. So bring back the v I want it
Pfjew, this I know. 😁
My wife says that I'm a hoarder 😮😅
I have a whole bunch of guitars..................kinda lost count.
Only have one guitar.
Something in the comments ;-)
🤣
That bottle of Zubrowka should be in the freezer, Rob. Source: am Polish.
Random comment to appease the algorithm…
loving the lesson, not loving the recent AI generated thumbnails though. Don't fall into the clickbait trend Rob!
