I have been anti-religion since my high school days (catholic) and have been turned off by all the preachers , which seemed to be preoccupied with Homosexuality .
I became an atheist last year , but this man (Richard Rohr) has put me back on the
religious fence. His teachings are a breath of fresh air .

Anyone can read the Bible, hear Jesus' claims and teachings, read the testimony of his life, death, burial, resurrection, and giving the Holy Spirit, they can see their own sin, repent, believe Jesus, and be Born of God, without any other religious teachers, including Christian teachers. If I've learned anything from God, it's "Don't let any man affect what you believe about Me. Just believe my Son."

He's absolutely right. Christ taught 5 main commandments. Non violence in thought and actions. No adultery in thought and actions. No taking of oaths legal or otherwise. Loving all people foreign or otherwise equally. And don't be angry or disparage anyone. A wonderful book on this topic is Leo Tolstoys My religion and The Kingdom of God is within you.

This is not his opinions. He studied the bible and theology inside out and didn't buy into the watered down over the centuries bullshit we've been fed, and finally informing us of how it is. Thank God for this man I say. I've been searching for the truth for many years and my heart feels he's nearer to the truth. I don't intellectualise my decision to believe him, I just feel it, and I can't deny that.

I attended a retreat lead by Fr. Rohr in The Bahamas many years ago and I find his very inspiring. This notion of inclusiveness seem to be a part of his DNA. Even though a catholic priest, he sees the value that other christian denominations bring to the Body of Christ. Notice in this piece how he credits the Amish and Quakers for retaining the virtue of peace. Jesus has a very simple message for the world - LOVE ONE ANOTHER.

Just like biblical and historical evidence proves that jesus and his apostles were vegatarians biblical and historical evidence also proves that the trinity, atonement, original sin and hell are very late misinterpretations and are not supported by the early creed hence its not a part of Christianity I pray that Allah swt revives Christianity both inside and out preserves and protects it and makes its massage be witnessed by all people but at the right moment, place and time
The secred text of the Bible says ye shall know them by their fruits

My God, listen to you all! How can we bring positive transformative change to this world when we can't even get along with our own kind? We must put our zeal for love, compassion, and grace before our zeal for dogma and doctrine if we are to defeat the darknesses of this world and usher in the Kingdom of God; and it must start in our own hearts.

    • @sngscratcher
      @sngscratcher 9 лет назад +12

Yes, I concur. Clearly the problem is that many people - including the ones who argue under these spiritual-themed YT videos - haven't got the foggiest idea what it means to live a spiritual path. So rather than working to transform themselves into more loving beings (like Jesus and many others) - which can only happen within the depths of our being - they operate out of the "ego level" instead. And the ego is (obviously) greedy and self-centered, and so its singular goal is to prove to others that our views are the correct ones! And "it" will cause us to try to “prove” that our POV is the right one until our dying day, unless, of course, we decide to embark on a legitimate spiritual journey, where our singular goal now becomes one of transforming ourselves into a more loving being. All the best!

Satan used this in the garden of eden to convince Eve that she was NOT breaking God's commandment when she ate of the fruit....surely you will not die. He's (Satan masked as Richard) is doing the EXACT thing here. He's telling you to 'die to self' and create a neutral moral fountain with no biases. He's striping the TRUTH OF GOD from people's consciousness. The danger is that he's setting you up to HATE. He speaks 'low level' mind to discredit the faithful children of God and portrait them as backward thinking racism, homophobic, etc. TRUE CHRISTIANS LOVE EVERYONE BUT STAND FOR THE TRUTH OF GOD....THE IS AS BAD AS IT GETS....THIS MAN WILL TURN PEOPLE AGAINST TRUE CHRISTIANS.....And people wonder how Christians could have been thrown to the Lions, this is how it happens....

This is a fundamental commandment of our Messiah:
Luke 14:33 "So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple."
Luke 12:33-34 "[33] Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.
[34] For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
Matthew 6:19-21 "[19] Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
[20] But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
[21] For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
Matthew 6:24-34 "[24] No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
[25] Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
[26] Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
[27] Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
[28] And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
[29] And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
[30] Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
[31] Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
[32] (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
[33] But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
[34] Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."
John 6:27 "Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed."
Matthew 28:19-20 "[19] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
[20],Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."
John 14:15 "If ye love me, keep my commandments."
John 14:21, 23-24 "[21] He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
[23] Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
[24] He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me."
We must obey Jesus, as Christians. Stop working for money, for the food and drink that perishes! Did Jesus work for money? Did Paul? Did Peter? Did John? No, and for those that had done it, like Peter, they left all and followed Jesus/God. We *need* to do this too.
Matthew 7:21 "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."
Matthew 6:24 "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."
We have to serve God to do His will. We cannot enter Heaven without doing His will. We cannot serve Him and do His will if we also serve mammon, or money. Quit your job if you have one and work for God! He *commands* us to do this! Our eternal destination depends greatly on this one simple thing! I know it can be tough to accept, but have in God to provide your needs if you provide His will's doing. Please contact me at name1234567890523@gmail.com if you would like to talk about this. Thank you.

Richard Rohr says, "Jesus never excludes people." I'm convinced Jesus would not exclude him from His words: "Woe to you, blind guides." Rohr says, "we've" done this and that wrong, but he doesn't mean himself, he means other people whom he condemns, while holding himself aloof and better than all those others. The jesus Rohr believes may be fine with contraception and abortion, but the Jesus I believe did not compromise the Truth even while He insisted on love of neighbor. BOTH are required.

Richard Rohr and others such as James Finley are certainly a breath of fresh air bringing the true teaching of love and compassion for all, And now we have many inside and outside of the church calling for this love and compassion to be extended to animals who are obviously sentient creatures with feelings similar to those of humans ! This is obviously the the next step must take in moving forward. Man must be the guardian of the planet and everything on it.

You are right, Jesus would be with them. But you forget the next part. That is a conversion of life. When Jesus healed or forgave people he also said, "Sin no more." Jesus loves us as we are, but Jesus also loves us so much that he wants to see us strive to be the best we can be.

Remember to read the Word of God - the Bible - and compare it to all teaching. Every prophet, thought, and inspiration must match up with the Word of God to be truth - no matter how much you want it to be true. Everything else is a lie.
Yes, the church has often failed to value what mattered to Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, the son of the living God. As we listen to God's word and obey what God is telling us, we love God (1 John 5:3). As Jesus declared, he is the only way to God (John 14:6). Jesus told us what he expects in Matthew 22:36-40 (love God first and love people unconditionally) and in Matthew 28:18-20 (sharing the good news of Jesus sacrifice, forgiveness, and new life; making disciples; teaching/exemplifying what Jesus commanded).
As individuals, churches, communities, and nations we have a decision to make. To love God above everything else in our lives or not. To become living sacrifices (Romans 12:1-2) grateful for the amazing grace we've received because of Jesus sacrifice (death, burial, and resurrection) or not. In Matthew 19:16-30, Jesus made it clear to the rich young man he had to sell all he had and give his riches away to follow Him and gain eternal life.
Jesus asks each of us for every idol that is more important than Him. Whether that is riches, cars, family, or power - it must fall by the wayside so that Christ is the most important thing in my life. What idol is Christ asking you to surrender? Are you willing to dump it at the foot of the cross and follow Him? The reward is truly eternal.

***** You say well when you say "remember to love your enemies" and that love is "a decision to be made every moment of every day of your entire life." Jesus taught both of these truths over "religion" and when asked about the most important commandments, both were based on love. In Mark 12:28-31 (www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark+12%3A28-31&version=ESV) 29 Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

The very Non-negotiable he begins with, NON-VIOLENCE, is exactly what motivates those who are pro-life. Yet he calls "stances on contraception" (Abortion) an added, "new non-negotiable." But what could be more violent than dissecting an unborn baby and pulling it out piece by piece? One in power taking the life of the most vulnerable?
He has the right to have a different stance, but it's surprising to hear someone who is supposed to be so intelligent unable to see how the conviction of Non-Violence would, logically, lead to a pro-life stance.

Brother thanks for your exelent explanation. My question is, what is the difference between jesus teaching and keeping the sabbath, the passover and all festivals. For example. (1) I helped a poor man. (2) I gave food, clothes to the needy ones. I am honest, I say my prayer daily, I attend church on Sunday not Saturday, I am doing everything that Jesus taught. But I am not keeping the sabbath, the passover and all festivals which are all commanded by God. What's the difference between jesus teaching and the commandments. What actually are these commandments. Jesus himself said to obey the commandments. Please enlighten about the commandments. Is circumcision , not to eat pork, are the commandments of God. We have to keep in mind that Jesus obeyed each and every commandments . And jesus said do as I say. So this becomes a commandment. Are Christians really keeping the commandments.

It was Theodosius the Great in 380 AD who made Christianity the only official religion in the Roman Empire, the Imperial religion. I am amazed that Dr. Rohr got this wrong.

. Richard Rohr and others such as James Finley are a breath of fresh air bringing the true teaching of love and compassion for all, And now we have many inside and outside of the church calling for this love and compassion to be extended to animals who are obviously sentient creatures with feelings similar to those of humans ! This is obviously the the next step must take in moving forward towards a consistent life of love and compassion for all. We must be the guardian of the planet and everything on it. When we stop killing and eating animals peace can truly come to the Earth.

It began with the absolutely brutal heinous and frankly shocking persecution of the Nazarenes & Ebionites, and the followers of Arius. To me that’s the clearest sign of the evil that emerged from the prior council. There is n reasonable explanation as to why such a young church would persecute so vehemently vigorously and assiduously THEIR OWN BRETHEN in Christ, unless there was some real threat to their power the teachings & opinions these people professed. It is the Roman Catholics who barbarically brutalised plundered and sullied the name of Christ, then outdone only by their Protestant English cousins centuries later.
All the while, the true followers of Christ remained hidden & underground, they had a sacred duty to hold on to & pass down Jesus’s pure and true message. And now in the age of information, the truth is emerging bit by bit, but only those with objective vision and unbiased hearts can appreciate it. Let us pray that this prompts all of us to repent & return to Wisdom, amen.

Starts out accurate & inspiring, then takes a sharp turn 4 the devilishly obtuse. Fr. Rohr, U seem nice, but gee, every relatively studious Christian from the beginning (!) has said the Eucharist is no ordinary meal. It's a good practice not 2 discriminate w/ whom U eat. I like hanging out & chewing the fat (or bread & wine) w/ all sorts of people--the more different from me the better! But from the get-go, Jesus reserved his Body and Blood for his own in the world, & the Church follows suit.(!)

It would be overstating things considerably to say that Jesus advocated pacifism. Turning the other cheek was after all the response to a slap -- which is more in the nature of an insult and provocation than deadly violence. And not only does Jesus commit violence Himself in cleansing the temple, but there are several parables which takes war and self-defense for granted. And then there is the considerable violence which God commanded in the Bible. The point is that one can take this aspect of Jesus' teaching to an unjustified extreme.
Nonviolence is not quite the same thing as pacifism. I am reminded particularly of the non-violent protests of Ghandi, which were extremely effective. What Jesus advocated sounds much more like going out of ones way to avoid violence and to make peace and not that of no fighting in self-defense whatsoever. You don't overcome the numerous viscous killers in history by playing nicey nice. Sometimes violence in defense of the innocent as is used by police is both necessary and right.
But this doesn't mean that Richard Rohr isn't completely correct in his condemnation of historical Christianity which was quite often looking for an excuse to wage war rather than avoiding it.

People need to start acknowledging the fact that Mary Magdeline was the closest to JESUS. When HE died all the apostles left HIS side for fear they would be killed! The one who stayed with HIM was MARY MAGDELINE! Right till the end! Thats is why HE appeared to her before HE ascended. She was HIS comfort and HIS love 🌹. I know this not the subject this gentleman is speakin on but i wanna just bring it out. She was a sinner..........but because of her loyal love and compassion for JESUS she was resolved of all her sins. JESUS left her with child .........thats right. Nobody knew and it was not to be documented anywhere for the safety of the child. The Apostles were already extremely jealousof her and wanted to discredit her word that she had indeed seen Jesus after HE died. HE came to the one who loved HIM the with the greatest love right up until HIS last breath. Mary Magdeline had instruction from JESUS to carry on HIS teachings. 💜

  • @terencemonteiro

With due respect, Fr. Rohr, Jesus was not a pacifist and confronted evil.
    1. You quote the Beatitudes Matthew 5:3-10 about peacemakers, but if you read just few verses below in verse 21-22 Jesus says:
“You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder,[a] and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister[b][c] will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’[d] is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.
Jesus clearly went a step beyond "thou shalt not kill", just because a life is incapable of defending itself doesn't mean we can deny and terminate it.
    2. Jesus made a whip of cords and drove out money changers from the Temple. He did this out of zeal for the house of God. If he was against violence, why did he do this? Because he was against mindless violence stemming from hatred, ego and pride. But his whipping in the temple was chastisement born out of love. Divine Truth and Justice are non-negotiable
    3. Jesus said in Matthew 10:34-36
"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn
“‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law- a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household."
I feel your argument makes the same error you seem to be trying to combat - the misinterpretation of Christ's message. Christ clearly an unequivocally condemned injustice and discrimination in his day. Accepted lepers, prostitutes, tax collectors, women caught in adultery, even if it meant standing up to the culture. That's why they hated him, plotted against and killed him. If we want to follow his example, we cannot but stand for the unborn because they are the lepers and outcasts of today.
May God grant eternal rest and peace to all victims of violence and those denied their right to life. And may He grant wisdom and understanding to people to know His love for these little ones.
