One thing you misunderstood about this video. It was not planned to be a celebration, it was planned as a q&a/promotional live broadcast the night the kickstarter went live. The initial goal was 750K, with stretch goals at 1M, 1.5M, 2M, 2.5M, and 3M. They hit the goal in 45 minutes, first stretch goal of 1M in just under an hour. By the time this "promotional" broadcast went live, about 10 hours after the kickstarter was launched, the had hit final stretch goal of 3M. And hit 3.5M during the live broadcast.
Ashley was filming Blindspot during Campaign 1 and the beginning middle ish part of Campaign 2. So she wasn't able to attend every week to play with the rest. Sometimes she'd join via Skype and play remotely. It was a big logistic hassle and is the main reason her characters got a bit left behind. They never knew when Ashley would be available. So when the rest of the world found out the next day, in couple of hours, the kickstarter counter was at +5M$. At the end of day 2 it was more or less around +6M$. No. Matt is not normally that goofy. They were shell shocked, and just loopy trying to process what was happening. This was a WEIRD day for everyone involved. In the best posible way, but just surreal.

Yes, they did the one shot M9 vs VM toward the end of Campaign 2. Ashley is still, and was then, still with them, it's just at the time she was having to take long breaks from playing with the group because she was across the country filming the series Blindspot. So far for Campaign 3 she's been back home and has been involved in all the episodes so far.

@@nekoali2 I believe there are 3 Battle Royales. Level 17 for Vox Machina, level 20 for Vox Machina, and Vox Machina vs Mighty Nein which I want to say is level 15, but that's just from memory. However, the "spoilers" in the level 17 are almost all Magic Items, which he wouldn't know anyway. The other two have legit story spoilers.
I'm so hype for you to see the series! I got to watch the first two episodes and I LOVED them (really hoping you'll love them too!). Also Ashley was on Blindspot for a lot of campaign one and part of campaign two, and fans would always joke about when she would "return from war". She would Skype in when she could, but a lot of times Matt or Travis would roll for her. So the whole "if we raise money maybe we can get Ashley back" joke is based on that.
Mighty Nein vs Vox Machina did actually happen. It was a battle royale type episode. Definitely entertaining. Though the characters were a higher level, so it can be confusing to understand their abilities.
All the stretch goal one shots have occurred with the last one airing tomorrow which is a one shot with their guests. I would only recommend watching Ashley's one shot I forget what's it's called. To answer some of your questions on why is only Sam, Matt, Marisha and Travis. No its not because the others werent involved but this 4 are the main organizers of the kickstarter in particular; Travis is CEO of the company, Marisha is creative director and Matt is COO. Travis and Sam are the ones that headspeared the idea of creating the kickstarter and getting titmouse involved. Thats why the otheres arent in the video, just to avoid crowding the couch and, originally, to answer the questions about the kickstarter altho it ended up being a fuckfest because criters are amazing.
The Kickstarter campaign happened well after the Vox Machina campaign on Critical Role had finished. They were in their second campaign, The Mighty Nein, and Ashley Johnson was absent for many of the early episodes due to her filming obligations on the TV show Blindspot. So around 8:42 where you're asking what they were talking about, they were joking that they had raised enough money to buy Ashley out of her contract with Blindspot and get her back on Critical Role full time. A series of answers: -The Vox Machina vs Mighty Nein is already out, but I think it might be a bit spoilery -The doll on Sam's Lap is Jester, Laura's Campaign 2 character -Ashley wasn't bought, she wanted to be a bigger part of critical role, bu couldn't be present half of the episodes because of scheduling conflicts with Blindspot. So there was this meme in the Critical role fandom of "hating Blindspot for stealing Ashley". Not that we actually hated it or that Ashley had s problem with the show itself, but everyone (her included) was very happy when it ended and she could properly focus on playing D&D with her friends!

If I remember correctly, this video should have had a link to the kickstarter (both the original video and the cut-up version you just watched) so it's not hard to figure out what the stretch goals are and whatnot. I think there's only one One-Shot that they haven't done yet (assuming that Honey Heist 3 doesn't count) and that is a Vox Machina Guest Battle Royale (which I assume is getting a handful of the guest actors to come in as their respective characters and battle royale against each other). All the other One-Shot stretch goals have been taken care of as of last year.

The Ashley thing is a joke. She was just a working actress who worked in NY filming blind spot. This caused her to miss a lot of the games in both campaigns. Talks Machina was their aftershow where the cast talked about the episode and answered fan questions. It aired the Tuesday after each episode, and was hosted by Ashley's then-boyfriend, now betrothed, Brian W Foster. They started in the 70's of campaign 1, and went almost to the end of campaign 2.
This was an emergency stream that they did the same day of launching the stream (it was 7pm PST when they went live). at that time we already raised +2.5M$ and during the emergency stream, we went for the 3M$ and 3.5M$.
So basically imagine +3.5M$ raised in like less then 10 hours but it was only the American continent. At that time, Europe and the rest of the regions where the other half of the fans live in, they where still asleep. So when the rest of the world found out the next day, in couple of hours, the kickstarter counter was at +5M$. At the end of day 2 it was more or less around +6M$.
I was glued to my screen for those two days doing nothing other then watching the numbers go up. It was a ridiculous week.

Yeah, it aired every Tuesday following an episode, but the pandemic basically shut it down, and then Foster left to pursue other things: they've said TM will probably come back sometime this year, but we haven't had any details yet

No. Matt is not normally that goofy. They were shell shocked, and just loopy trying to process what was happening. This was a WEIRD day for everyone involved. In the best posible way, but just surreal.
To understand this you had to really see the kickstarter. It was like a hour or so into thier kickstarter and they had surpassed all thier goals they had to keep setting new stretch goals but they would basically beat them before it even posted I believe the first day was over 2.5 to 3 million and eventually went on to be over 11million with 88887 backers.
Yeah, they actually hit 3.5M during the stream and basically blue-screened all over again, it was AMAZING

The intial opening part, they went live RIOGHT as they started the campaign on Kickstarter. Ashley was always with CR, but temporarily she had her contract to play Patterson on Blindspot, then came back.
So Ya, this was them real time just as they started the kickstarter, so we see them reacting as it skyrockets already in the first 5 minutes. So that is the opening of the video, them suddenly see the kickstarter leap into the hundreds of thousands within the first couple minutes.
Another one of their funny early success story was when they sold out their t-shirt before Marisha finish announcing it on stream. Granted it was limited supply to see if people wanted them or not. It turn out, people really really wanted their merch.
6:48 The Mighty Nein vs Vox Machina, yeah, it's a thing that happened! Half the players were playing their Vox Machina character, half played their Mighty Nein, and the seventh player, well, it's a weird thing for that one. But it's something they did. I don't know if you should watch it because maybe spoilers (I don't remember if there's any or not, but they likely reference some stuff from their games), but it exists, yes.
For campaign 1 and campaign 2, they had an after show where they were delve deep into the previous episode of CR. Much like Talking Dead did with Walking Dead on AMC

Ashley was working on Blindspot for a number of years, so there were times where she would leave the campaign for extended periods. So she was in and out of C1 throughout the campaign, and partway into campaign 2. Then Blindspot ended and Ashley came back to join them permanently.
for a little context: i remember the day the kickstarter went live. you could literally refresh the page and the number would have gone up by another thousand, another five thousand, it was nuts, at a certain point i think even the fans were like "this is insane, can we take it farther?"
travis is a notorious scaredy-cat - there's a couple of compilations of him getting freaked out during the game, and the cast always teases him for it - and so the "let's make him do a haunted house" was the final, joke stretch goal for 10 million. and of course…

Yes, they did the one shot M9 vs VM toward the end of Campaign 2. Ashley is still, and was then, still with them, it's just at the time she was having to take long breaks from playing with the group because she was across the country filming the series Blindspot. So far for Campaign 3 she's been back home and has been involved in all the episodes so far.

Basically both of the Battle Royale oneshots are huge spoiler fests because they take place post campaign ending. So a lot of secrets revealed during the game would be spoiled if you haven't watched the campaigns through.
@@nekoali2 I believe there are 3 Battle Royales. Level 17 for Vox Machina, level 20 for Vox Machina, and Vox Machina vs Mighty Nein which I want to say is level 15, but that's just from memory. However, the "spoilers" in the level 17 are almost all Magic Items, which he wouldn't know anyway. The other two have legit story spoilers.

Also Ashley was on Blindspot for a lot of campaign one and part of campaign two, and fans would always joke about when she would "return from war". She would Skype in when she could, but a lot of times Matt or Travis would roll for her. So the whole "if we raise money maybe we can get Ashley back" joke is based on that.
Mighty Nein vs Vox Machina did actually happen. It was a battle royale type episode. Definitely entertaining. Though the characters were a higher level, so it can be confusing to understand their abilities.

To answer some of your questions on why is only Sam, Matt, Marisha and Travis. No its not because the others werent involved but this 4 are the main organizers of the kickstarter in particular; Travis is CEO of the company, Marisha is creative director and Matt is COO. Travis and Sam are the ones that headspeared the idea of creating the kickstarter and getting titmouse involved. Thats why the otheres arent in the video, just to avoid crowding the couch and, originally, to answer the questions about the kickstarter altho it ended up being a fuckfest because criters are amazing.

The Kickstarter campaign happened well after the Vox Machina campaign on Critical Role had finished. They were in their second campaign, The Mighty Nein, and Ashley Johnson was absent for many of the early episodes due to her filming obligations on the TV show Blindspot. So around 8:42 where you're asking what they were talking about, they were joking that they had raised enough money to buy Ashley out of her contract with Blindspot and get her back on Critical Role full time.
And there was indeed a Vox Machina vs Mighty Nein one-shot episode. Definitely don't watch that right now if you want to avoid any spoilers about where the characters from VM have elevated to in their skills and abilities.

-Ashley wasn't bought, she wanted to be a bigger part of critical role, bu couldn't be present half of the episodes because of scheduling conflicts with Blindspot. So there was this meme in the Critical role fandom of "hating Blindspot for stealing Ashley". Not that we actually hated it or that Ashley had s problem with the show itself, but everyone (her included) was very happy when it ended and she could properly focus on playing D&D with her friends!
This was a live streamed Q & A when the kickstarter went live. They kept checking in on the goal during it and losing it. And yes they drink during all their things. They hit in total over 11 million.

If I remember correctly, this video should have had a link to the kickstarter (both the original video and the cut-up version you just watched) so it's not hard to figure out what the stretch goals are and whatnot.
I think there's only one One-Shot that they haven't done yet (assuming that Honey Heist 3 doesn't count) and that is a Vox Machina Guest Battle Royale (which I assume is getting a handful of the guest actors to come in as their respective characters and battle royale against each other). All the other One-Shot stretch goals have been taken care of as of last year.
The guest battle Royale is airing tomorrow night, since its the night off from campaign 3, and has guests from both campaigns 1 and 2

Most of you questions can be answered by watching the campaign episodes. Most of your guesses are wrong and funny. You probably want to avoid spoilers for the animated show but they are changing some things to fit the style of animation so don't worry about it.
I'm actually going through the handbooker helper episodes and figuring out which ones have spoilers in them. Most of them are fine, but I'm just going to make a playlist for you.
