I genuinely like my Venture X card. First card that got me into lounges. I usually travel with 2 other people an I get to have them access the lounge with me for free. We tend to drink at the lounges for free an the annual fee is worth it just in drinks alone😜Plus I'm based out of Dulles so I can't wait till the Cap1 lounge opens up there.
Same here! At least so far haha. That's awesome you get so much value from the lounge access though. I know they took away Priority Pass restaurant access with the Venture X, but can you still get free drinks at their bars because of it? I still haven't visited one but I've always been curious as to what kind of value you can get from them still.
Having access to as many transfer partners as possible is something I didn't think about. I don't travel enough at this point to warrant the card but this is definitely something I'm interested in down the line. Great video Spencer! Always informative
It’s definitely not a necessity, and as long as you have cards with the lender who has the transfer partners you use most, you’re all set. But having access to more options isn’t a bad thing either. I’m glad you enjoyed it man. Thanks for watching!
Hey Spencer! Seeing your video helped me feel more confident about applying for the VX today. Even with 3 inquiries in the past 6 months and a short credit card history, I was approved! And with a credit line that more than doubled my current total limit on all my cards 😅 Gonna love all the benefits it has with that 2x everything category and free AUs!

@@rj5795 You can't go wrong with the Chase Trifecta in my opinion. It's just so easy to get value from. But I use the gold for dinning and groceries Platinum for flights Csr for general travel/ hotels maybe rental car Built for my mortgage I have a high monthly spend so the venture x as a catch all card is good for me.
@@DavidGarciajrtx It sounds like you got a solid plan and setup which is the important thing. Congrats on your kid btw! That's awesome. I imagine you'll at least use the travel credit on the VX too right?
I definitely plan to get the savor one and venture x in the near future. Plan to get it next year. When I first started my credit card journey, I mistakingly applied for too many and have 6 inquiries. They come off this fall. Capitol one is inquiry sensitive so at the moment, I am just gardening my credit.
That's a pretty killer combo! And I wouldn't beat yourself up about those inquiries early on... it happens to the best of us! But it's great they'll come off in the fall. Then you can try for some Cap1 cards. Just remember that Cap1 makes you wait 6 months (from what I've heard) before they'll approve you for a second card with them, so keep that in mind.
As of right now, yes. Mainly due to the fact that even with just one trip booked a year through their portal ($300 or more), I’ll activate that annual credit, and with the 10,000 mile anniversary bonus every year, I’ll be getting paid to keep it. But if something changes and this card is harder to get value from, maybe I’ll cancel it, idk!
After learning from Cap1 Venture X, I also think that’s the best card for the beginners in the travel reward games like me. Will apply soon when my projection for spending increases this summer. And will check out your referal.
I agree with you! It's definitely one of the easiest cards to get value from as I explain more in a couple of my recent videos on top of this one, but I would definitely do that application once your spending is higher to avoid having to overpay to hit the welcome bonus. I appreciate you using my link though! That really helps the channel a lot, so thank you!
Such a cool video. I applied (810 score, long credit history 20+ years) and they said no. I sent a letter to encourage a reconsideration with supporting documents and they let me know today that it was still a no. Maybe it's just not the right time for me.
Thanks so much Juan! It's really odd how Capital One chooses to approve people. They seem less apt to approve people with long and positive credit history because they deem them to be almost too safe. Definitely a more predatory approach to target people who are worse with credit cards, but I guess that's how they make their money... In my watch me apply video I show the preapproval tool I used to get a better idea if I'd be approved or not, so if you go for the card again, I'd check there first. I'm sorry about your denial though!
That's a super solid combo if you like Capital One's ecosystem a lot. And to answer your question, yes it's metal! I can't believe I didn't actually state that in the video lol.
Capital one told me they can’t guarantee the venture x to be metal from upgrading from venture idk if this is true I never seen a plastic venture X any thoughts ?
I have the Capital One Trifecta, but mostly only use the Savor One & the Venture X card. I have personally gotten a ton of value out of the Capital One Venture X card without much effort.
That's great! It looks like their 2 card rule didn't apply to you which is good to hear. And I'm glad you get so much value from the Venture X. I expect it to do the same in my setup!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial I thought there was a Two card rule, but others have reported that was a myth. I have the Cap One Quicksilver, Savor One, and Venture X. The rule that does exist for Capital One is that you must wait at least six months after an approval before you are eligible for a new Capital One card.
It’s so weird how capital one can’t even make up their minds about their own rules lol. But yes I’ve heard the same as you. It seems the 2 card rule is mostly debunked, but the 6 month between card applications is still in effect. Thanks for sharing your data point about that!
Congrats on the new card! Would love to get the card but I seem to not have a great relationship with capital one. How do I get around having too many rotating accounts for my credit score and get around getting approved when I don’t have any of the pre approvals that they do online that are great? I have around the same credit score and everything as well with yours, but seem to not be able to get around capital ones system. I was wondering too I’ve heard some people have froze some credit bureaus like freezing trans union or experian before applying for cards to not get inquires for those companies. Would it be smart to do that with capital one, or is it smart at all to freeze a credit bureau or two for credit card approvals?
Thank you! As for getting around too many new revolving accounts, you'd have to just hold off on applications for a while. That's really the most you can do. If you haven't applied for cards in a long time and are still not getting preapproved, then there must be something else in their system that's flagging you for some reason. I wouldn't be able to tell you what exactly. As for freezing certain bureaus, as I mentioned here, Capital One is infamous for pulling from every one of the bureaus, so I believe you have to keep them all unfrozen. I think someone told me that they froze one of them and still got away with it, but I do not recall which one that was and if that was a fluke or not. If you have any frozen right now, that could be why you aren't getting preapproved though.
Can you please do a video on how to book American flights with British airways? Whenever I do a search it always says no flights available and doesn’t give an option to see when they have other availability
I can definitely look into it! I haven't booked a flight like that myself, but it may just be that they really do have limited availability. I'd have to do more research on it, but thanks for the video idea!
I could definitely look into that! I would be surprised if there was a hard number for that information, but I can always check. Definitely a good idea for a video.
Soo….that huge brochure about the benefits. The should just give a QR code to it lol….btw, I’m surprised that it doesn’t come in a box! I’m not happy about that 😣. That card looks nice though!
I know right lol. I was actually shocked at how big it was. Also, yeah it definitely was not a super luxury unboxing experience, but the card itself is cool so what're you gonna do 🤷🏼♂️
I’ve been keeping myself focused on waiting to apply for this card in September since it’s the card I want the most on my list. I almost applied for the Amazon chase card. But I may apply for the Amazon card right after i hopefully get approved for the Venture X.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial yeah I am going to be checking the pre approval tool once a month just so I know I make it into what they consider excellent credit. I paid off a lot of credit card debt these past couple weeks. So and have it planned out to have my utilization to almost zero when I apply.
That’s great! It’s always good to practice smart financial habits like that, especially right before applying for a new card. I would imagine that checking that tool that often isn’t a bad thing, but let me know how that all goes!
I just received my Venture X credit card along with the welcome letter, but it didn't mention the sign-up bonus for spending $4,000 within the first 3 months. Should I be concerned? This is my first time getting the Venture X, though I already have the Venture card.
Thank you! The welcome bonus was 75k points for $4k spend in 3 months. And yes you heard right. You get 2x back on every purchase outside of one of the elevated travel categories. Pretty great!
It is not the same value as Chase in cash back form. Definitely more targeting using these points with transfer partners to get good value from them. You'd only get 0.5 cents/point in cash back form with Cap1 miles and 1 cent/point with Chase.
One reason that's holding me back from applying to this card is when I use them I don't get my priority boarding or checked bag. This is why I've been sticking with airline cards. Do you think this is a valid reason?
That's completely fair! However, I would argue you could have those airline specific cards as well as this one since they generally have very different perks in comparison to each other. What airline cards do you use the most?
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial Citi Adv Platinum and United Explorer. Just base cards to get me priority with a low fee. When I would fly using my Chase preferred with no priority just to either put my luggage in a completely different aisle or having to check is my least favorite experience! I've been looking for priority pass on different hotel cards that way i can get status, priority pass, and a free night.
@@iGimmie That's completely fair. It all depends on how you fly I guess. I plan on booking all my flights with points as much as possible, so without any dedicated airline status I guess I'd never get those higher tier perks. If you're looking for a hotel card with priority pass and a free night, you're describing the Hilton Aspire card. It's a bit luxury and you need to like Hilton to get it, but just thought I'd mention it!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial Yea I'm still trying to figure it out LOL. I really could just start flying economy/main cabin and then it won't matter. But yes totally have been staring at the Hilton Aspire. I plan to start slow with lower Annual Fee cards with some status and then see if I want to upgrade up into those higher annual fee ones. So excited! Ty!
@@iGimmie I completely understand. It's always good to have a plan and kinda know what you want to do, but you never truly know till you try I guess! Luckily no matter what card you go with, you should be able to easily get positive value in the first year because of the welcome bonus, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Can I successfully book my flight on the airlines' website using the Capitol One Venture X credit card and claim the '$300 annual travel credit' using the 'Cover Travel Purchases' option?
Great question! That would really depend on my trip itinerary which I still don't have yet since it's unclear if I'll actually be going anywhere. In all honesty, I can use Cap1, Amex, or Chase points to get I'll be able to book with almost any transfer partner for this trip, I'm just not sure which one yet.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial I don't travel internationally, but I heard that you need to be booking months in advanced to find award availability. Are you concerned about that?
@@LK_EBM Yeah you definitely want to be booking international trips as early as possible if you're going to try to get crazy redemption value. I wouldn't necessarily say I'm concerned about it because my trip wouldn't be for a few months anyways, but it's always something to take into consideration.
Good question! I believe it was only like 3 days or so, but I can’t remember exactly as I unboxed it about a month ago at this point. In my watch me apply video I remember reading how long it would take to ship near the end of the video, but I don’t recall exactly how long it took it to arrive. It did beat the expectations I remember though.
Yo Spencer! I’m a senior engineering major at UT right now and love your channel man! I wanted to ask your thoughts on a bit of a dilemma I have: I’m currently being targeted for the 150K plat offer and I want to get the plat first before the gold for the higher offer (even thought what I really want is the gold) and then cancel after a year. But the elevated offer of the in branch CSP is tempting me. I’m trying to decide which to get first. I have a lot of spend coming up with some post grad trips so I should be able to hit both spends and I’m going to get both cards, but do you think both offers will be around in 3 months or so when I would feel comfortable applying for another card? If not which do you think I should go with first as both are extremely elevated. Secondly, since amex does a soft pull after the first card, can I get the gold card whenever without waiting 3 months or is it still advised to wait 90 days between applications? Thanks for the info man and keep it up!🤘🏻
That's great man! Hook 'em! As for this predicament you're in, here's my two cents on it. For one, Amex has the rule where you can (theoretically) only get one welcome bonus on each of their cards in your lifetime... while the rules around that are a little weird and you could maybe get the bonus again in like 7-10 years, I would treat it as a lifetime deal. Considering 150k is the highest offer I've seen and one if not the highest we ever will, it could be very well worth it to go ahead and apply for that one, especially if you have enough spend to apply for both in 3 months. Did they give you a deadline as to when that offer would expire? Targeted offers (particularly mailers) usually have an expiration. The Chase 90k offer should theoretically be around for a while. I hear they're about to add that one to their online systems as well which is nice. However, you really never know how long they'll stick around. One thing to keep in mind is that generally Amex is much more lenient about recent new cards and inquires, so you may want to start with the CSP first and hope that offer sticks around on the Amex Platinum. And you have to take into account your 5/24 status for the CSP too. At the end of the day, you're gonna get a super solid offer either way. Whichever one you add first will depend on what bonus you value more and what card you need fastest. If you're doing those post grad trips and want lounge access for example, adding the Plat first may be better. But you're really weighing an offer from Amex that you can technically only ever get one of, and a bonus on the CSP that you could get every 4 years. It's a lot to consider, but hopefully this helped out a bit!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial yeah I think the once in a lifetime rule has me thinking plat as well just because it’s so high! The offer is just the online one they just almost always offer 150K when I visit their site. Currently at 1/24 so not too worried about that either. Good news on the offer probably sticking around at least for a bit.
@@prestonthomas86 That makes a lot of sense! And yeah you never know how long these targeted Amex offers last either, so it's kinda a coin flip either way. At the end of the day, if you get the Amex Plat bonus and miss the CSP, you'll still get 60k extra points by choosing that one 🤷🏼♂ That's a lot of value...
Many congratulations and always blessings my brother and welcome to the craziness life and world of Capital One in any products of the bank since this bank is always harassing financially anybody first nationwide and even worldwide of it’s products and credit cards. Please never doubt about a credit card being declined and think negative in a credit card application even in live because you do have already establish credit history even if it’s 3 to 8 credit cards only and another thing you’ll need a few loans and even mortgages to boost your credit score and powerless your credit history more perfectly. Perfect and awesome 👏 🙌 video, this one and the application video also.
I appreciate you as always man! Your support never goes unnoticed. I'm definitely glad to have this card in my wallet and look forward to many more to come! Thank you for the kind words.
Good question! For one, hard inquiries fall off of your report after 2 years, so that's a big way. Also, a lot of what you see on apps like Credit Karma is only RECENT inquiries (past 6 months, I believe), so that makes the numbers look smaller. Lastly, if you see someone applying for a lot of Amex cards, they have a rule where once you apply for one of their personal cards, every application with them after that is a soft pull (almost every time, at least), so you wouldn't have any inquiries added to your report. That's a few reasons why it may look like we have no hard inquiries!
I got my VX card a few weeks ago. I live in Denver and I’m hoping that the soon to be opened lounge here is worth the hype. It also seems like a solid card with Hertz Presidents status and 2x for every purchase. Here’s to hoping🎉
That's great to hear! I've heard really great things about their lounges so far, and I bet the one in Denver will be cool too! I think it's a super solid card all around and is one that is easier to justify than a lot of luxury travel cards out there, so I hope it serves you well!
Haha don't beat yourself up... any card is possible to get positive value from, especially in year 1. Might as well test out a few of luxury travel cards, or even have multiple at once if it fits your travel habits.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial Oh, for sure. I can't afford a second right now but I will be using my CSR to maximize its value and move from there. Or keep it? I dunno. I know what my next two cards are at least. And I may want to come out of 5/24 jail first.
@@MattClausen All fair points! I wouldn't be able to get positive value from multiple luxury cards right now, so I'll stick with the VX for now. But I think you have a solid strategy. See if you can get positive value for years to come, and if not, downgrade or cancel and get a different card to fill that slot.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial yup, that’s the plan. After I hit this SUB, I’ll assess things and see if moving down to the CSP makes sense (probably) and go from there. But Hyatt and Marriott are big hotels to bank for now.
@@MattClausen The CSP is super easily justifiable in my opinion. CSR is a little tougher. But yeah with those Hotels, Chase points are really valuable for sure.

Csr for general travel/ hotels maybe rental car
Built for my mortgage
I have a high monthly spend so the venture x as a catch all card is good for me.
@@DavidGarciajrtx It sounds like you got a solid plan and setup which is the important thing. Congrats on your kid btw! That's awesome.
I imagine you'll at least use the travel credit on the VX too right?
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial yes, I’ll for sure take advantage of all the travel credits I receive from each card
That's the way to do it!
Congrats on getting the card! I hope you enjoy!
Thank you so much! I've definitely enjoyed it so far. I'm about to hit the SUB on it, so I'll like it even more once those points hit my account lol.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial Do you think you'll be keeping the Venture X long term?
I hope to get this credit card by September if everything goes as plan
Best of luck to you! I'd check their preapproval tool first to give you solid peace of mind and then follow through... let me know how that goes!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial Yes, thank you for the advice
@@chivas_gold No problem!
Sick card! Congrats bruh!
I appreciate you man!!
@Spencer Johnson Thanks for the reply. I'll give the video a look and go that route should I try again. I'm wishing you all the best.
No problem at all! Always happy to talk about this stuff. I appreciate your support!
Yeah I think I’m set on getting the SavorOne and Venture X duo. The range, simplicity and ease of use does it for me.
Also, is it a metal card?
That's a super solid combo if you like Capital One's ecosystem a lot. And to answer your question, yes it's metal! I can't believe I didn't actually state that in the video lol.
Love ur new card, Spence ❤❤❤
I appreciate that Dannee! Looks great in my Apple Wallet too 😉
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial - Do I smell an updated vid of “Whats in my Apple Wallet?” Lol
Hahah maybe soonish....
Capital one told me they can’t guarantee the venture x to be metal from upgrading from venture idk if this is true I never seen a plastic venture X any thoughts ?
Getting the card delivered tomorrow :)
Congrats Ben, that's awesome! Hopefully this video got you excited to open it.
Great card and video! Congratulations 🎉
I appreciate you as always Cesar! Definitely like having this card in my wallet now.
Great video Spencer
Thanks so much!
Could you do a video on Capital One application rules? How much income is needed to be approved for a visa infinite card?
That's a solid plan! Sometimes it's worth waiting a card out. It sounds like this may be one of those for you!
Congrats
Whats the welcome bonus amount?
And did you say 2x on anything other than travel ? Wow
Thank you! The welcome bonus was 75k points for $4k spend in 3 months. And yes you heard right. You get 2x back on every purchase outside of one of the elevated travel categories. Pretty great!
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial awesome
Do they offer cashback? And if so, is it similar or better than Chase ?
To trigger the travel credit, you have to book through Capital One's travel portal.
How do you plan to be using the Capital One miles to travel to Europe? Which transfer partners are you booking?
I wouldn't necessarily say I'm concerned about it because my trip wouldn't be for a few months anyways, but it's always something to take into consideration.
how long did it take for the card to arrive? i.e. from approval to card in hand?
Will it only be 10x threw the portal or can I swipe and get 10 x
On travel
Only through the portal unfortunately. That's how all these luxury travel cards are... they gotta make money off you somehow!
Loved my card and I’d rack up a sign up bonus within a day, lol😅
That's great man! Hitting a SUB in one day had to be a good feeling... well not on the bank account I guess lol
I don't get it how these people apply for a 1,000,000 cards and only have 1 inquire or 0 please explain the whole game
I….probably should have gone Venture X…
