As AnthonyBove pointed out below, the Capital One Venture X $300 Travel Credit does NOT earn points on the purchase anymore. Looks like not only was I wrong about the Venture X but also I was wrong about how that credit works. So please ignore the whole part from 7:18 - 7:47. So NOT kudos to you, Capital One. Instead the $300 travel credit works by lowering the total amount in the Capital One Tavel portal. So if you want a $600 flight, you'll only pay $300 with your Venture X and get 10x on that $300 (not the entire $600 as it was before). Thank you again for calling out my oversight.
Was gonna come here to comment that this was changed 2-3 months ago at least. It’s a travel discount more than a travel credit these days. But hey, at least you can still earn FF miles from the airline you purchase the ticket from via portal right ?
@@jasonkane9942yes you get FF miles/points with the airlines if you enter your airline account number. I think American Airlines may not be honoring that in the future and they will require you to book directly with them.
I held off on this card because I didn't see where I could get real value from it. That is, until I visited the DFW Capital One Lounge! You can still get 2 free visits with the regular Venture card so I decided to check it out and I loved it. I had a 3-hour layover so all the free food and cocktails were so nice plus I was able to grab to-go food that fed me for the rest of my trip. I felt so refreshed for my 2nd flying leg. As soon as I got home from that trip I applied for the Venture X lol
The Venture X definitely makes a ton of sense, especially if you simply can utilize the $300 Travel Credit + put the Bonus Miles to use. Just got approved for it myself and excited to put it to use. Using the Venture X at Costco with them only taking Visa like you said is honestly a low-key great benefit haha. Great video Chase!
Congrats Chase on getting the Venture X! I love the card for all the reasons you highlighted, especially that 2x catch-all with no foreign transaction fees. I travel internationally a decent amount and transactions sometimes code strangely, even restaurants, thus why I'm never hesitant to just use the VX.
Got my tsa precheck before from capital one venture and due to the pandemic it was extended for 6 years. My game plan next year is to upgrade my boundless to ritz card, down grade my and platinum to gold or lower, get the venture x to renew my tsa pre/lounge access and as a travel credit card and if signup bonus is good I’ll get the chase proffered. I’m a huge Amex fan (customer service is the best), but I find it really hard to use all the credits that comes with it plus it is not a good card for points earning. Another great video chase 🙏🏽
Thank you for the video! You mentioned your gf lives in Hawaii. I also live in Hawaii. Question, on the Capital One Travel Portal, will I be able to purchase Hawaiian Airlines flights? Or do the flights on the Travel Portal only contain airlines that are transfer partners with Capital One? Thank you!!
Congratulations Chase! I hope you enjoy the card. In my experience, if I’m flying AA, I would set my layover to DFW if the timing and price are right. More often than not, DFW has been my choice of AA hub for these reasons. This makes it easier to enjoy the C1 Lounge. Some of the reasons why I’d go with DFW over other AA hubs include that they can be more expensive than going through DFW, require overnight stays or 2 layovers, have very short layovers, or are airports I’d generally want to avoid.
that's a good tip 💡 I know i only briefly mentioned it in the video but I will for sure route an upcoming trip through one of the C1 lounge airports. but now you making a hard sell for that airport to be DFW. Thank you Vincent 🤙🏽
Capital One Travel portal also does price matching. Bargain shop the price somewhere else, THEN call Capital One and bring that price to them. They will honor it, so you’ll be able to use the points and credits within the portal. Yes, it does require the phone call, which sucks, but hey. They price match. 👍
Almost through my 1st year with this card. I do put all general purchases that I can't get higher cash back on this card which makes it my most used card. I've only booked through the portal to redeem the $300 travel credit as I normally find better deals elsewhere. The other benefits are not useful to me, so the only benefits I really use are the $400 yearly credit and the 2% back to reimburse travel purchases... debating if I'm better off getting the fidelity 2% back card (no sign up bonus) and using Costo Citi 3% back on travel plus an extra 2% through Costco.
One of the things to consider is how you use your points. If you are okay with the limited redemption options with the Fidelity and Costco cards, then it may be worth the switch. Also, when you do travel, do you value the travel protections and insurances that come with the Venture X?
Great breakdown of your thought process with this card! I have a similar card profile and recently came to almost the same conclusion with the VX. Appreciate the perspective 🙌
The venture x is the big daddy card for me as I haven’t jumped on the platinum yet. So far I love the VX tho, super easy to use and get outsized value! I believe there was a short period where referrals had a 90k SUB but 75k is still solid in my eyes
your authorized users will have to create their own priority pass account. They need to sign up from the following link: www.prioritypass.com/capitalone
This is what I googled about sign up bonuses: If you are offered a signing bonus with a particular dollar amount, don't assume it's a non-negotiable figure. Just as it's important to try to open a salary discussion, you generally should try to launch a signing bonus negotiation
Because of the Chase Sapphire Reserve's recent Priority Pass nerf, I truly believe that the best luxury travel card is actually two cards, both the VX and the Amex Platinum. Plain and simply because the VX covers the Platinum's weaknesses as a Visa Infinite (worldwide acceptance, primary CDW instead of secondary). And that's just because the VX is so easy to zero out the annual fee, unlike the Reserve, which allows you to pair it with a bigger card without as much financial strain if you do any kind of traveling.
I definitely like the Platinum and VX for my personal lifestyle way more than the Sapphire Reserve. 👍🏽 I do like how you mentioned that those 2 card complement each other
Just got back from a trip to Denver and Washington. I gotta say the Cap 1 lounges are very nice! For Chase I decided to go the route of Saphire preferred and Ritz-carlton for the chase lounges instead of going after the reserve.
@@ChaseYokoyama specific data points I was told: 85k for in-branch sign up. 75k points when you spend $4000 in first 3 months and 10k bonus points when you spend $6,000 in the first 6 months.
Great video Chase. I have the CSR, Amex Platinum, and the VX. Minus the Chase 1.5c per point the C1 portal seems to work better for airlines. When I was in Indonesia i had access to the local airlines via the C1 travel portal where chase and amex did not have full access. This can save you hundreds of dollars on tickets and in many cases shorten the flight time. Another item, when I was in Japan at the Haneda in terminal 3 during a layover required a priority pass card per person and would not honor guests. They will allow two guests if you paid for them. The vx has access to plaza premium lounges as well, the CSR does not. Last item the c1 travel portal does have hotel collections similar to(but not quite as good) as the Amex FHR, in those cases you could think of the travel credit similarly to the Amex platinum hotel credit.
I appreciate your insights from your experiences with the Venture X 😱 That is a really decent point about using ur travel credit like the hotel credit on the platinum card (i like how its way more flexible).

Capital One miles (points) never expire as long as your card remains open. Just keep a card active in the Venture X or Venture Rewards or VentureOne Rewards family
You don't get 10x miles on the 300 travel credit. I literally used mine today and I owed about 14 dollars after the deduction. I only got 10x points the 14 dollars.
After my recent redemption on aeroplan for a 19hr Singapore airlines 19hr in business class, I now see 2x C1 better than 1.5x chase. However, both are not as good as 3x US bank miles imo so my VX only gets used for “catch all” when mobile wallets are not accepted which is kinda rare nowadays 😂
I think Amex Platinum, US Bank Altitude Reserve and Chase Ritz Carlton is a good combination. Most people do not have the Chase Sapphire Reserve and the Amex Platinum.
For me its in the fact that now I have a 2x catch all card that I can use where Amex isn't accepted and when I travel abroad. I also want to check out the Capital One lounges. Then I also added my gf as an authorized user and got her a priority pass membership for free. Sure its not hundreds of dollars of positive value, but i'm still getting positive value one way or another 👌🏽
How does one tell cap 1 that even if I had a phone I would not give them the number. My email and snail mal addresses have worked fine for all the crap they say a phone can provide me for the last thirty years. I would appreciate it if they would stop harassing me for one.
Is it positive value if your paying $400 to get $400 back? Or r u breaking even? Forfeiting your elite status is not worth it United travel bank would b your best bet Plus your paying $395 in the first year but only getting $300 in value in the first year. (Minus the sub) U already have the $100 for ge/tsa
That's a good question 👌🏽 but I'm also getting "value" from the spend I am now gonna be putting on it since its my new catch all card. Also the value of the Cap 1 Lounges that I will want to hit up at least once this year. I also added my gf as an authorized user for her own lounge access. Those are some of the main reasons why I think I can receive positive value back.
@@ChaseYokoyama vx is hard to sell to me since i already have everything it provides minus access to the 2-3 lounges they have (that i can still visit with my priority pass) card just doesn’t seem worth it when you already carry the sapphire reserve and amex platinum. True story: I booked thru the portal for flight from TPE to KHN and back via Shanghai. On the first leg I got a last minute email that the connecting flight will depart two hours later. No problem, just spend some time hanging around. On my return flight, showed up two hours ahead with luggage on tow and a connection flight to Japan that night. The flight was canceled in Freaking CHINA! I called the travel portal and was basically told there is nothing they can do to get me out of a third world country and I had to buy my way out of the jam. I am going after the CC for all the one way tickets and hundreds of $$ of cab fare. That is also what you need to know before signing up.
Im sorry to hear about that experience. That sounds extremely stressful especially for it to happen internationally. This definitely is one of the worst case scenarios when it comes to booking travel through a travel portal.
Thank you for watching Jimmy! 🤙🏽 I think imma work on that Savor One next. But C1 is so sensitive to new inquiries so I'll have to wait a little longer.

After my recent redemption on aeroplan for a 19hr Singapore airlines 19hr in business class, I now see 2x C1 better than 1.5x chase. However, both are not as good as 3x US bank miles imo so my VX only gets used for “catch all” when mobile wallets are not accepted which is kinda rare nowadays 😂
ya that 3x mobile wallet multiplier is quite special 😳
I think Amex Platinum, US Bank Altitude Reserve and Chase Ritz Carlton is a good combination. Most people do not have the Chase Sapphire Reserve and the Amex Platinum.
Now that RC is a card I really want to add to my wallet
Your paying $400 to be given your 400 back year 2 and on if you use the c1 portal.
And the outsized value is where?
For me its in the fact that now I have a 2x catch all card that I can use where Amex isn't accepted and when I travel abroad. I also want to check out the Capital One lounges. Then I also added my gf as an authorized user and got her a priority pass membership for free. Sure its not hundreds of dollars of positive value, but i'm still getting positive value one way or another 👌🏽
How does one tell cap 1 that even if I had a phone I would not give them the number.
My email and snail mal addresses have worked fine for all the crap they say a phone can provide me for the last thirty years.
I would appreciate it if they would stop harassing me for one.
try calling them to ask to take u off the call list or something
Is it positive value if your paying $400 to get $400 back?
Or r u breaking even?
Forfeiting your elite status is not worth it
United travel bank would b your best bet
Plus your paying $395 in the first year but only getting $300 in value in the first year. (Minus the sub)
U already have the $100 for ge/tsa
That's a good question 👌🏽 but I'm also getting "value" from the spend I am now gonna be putting on it since its my new catch all card. Also the value of the Cap 1 Lounges that I will want to hit up at least once this year. I also added my gf as an authorized user for her own lounge access. Those are some of the main reasons why I think I can receive positive value back.
@@ChaseYokoyama vx is hard to sell to me since i already have everything it provides minus access to the 2-3 lounges they have
(that i can still visit with my priority pass) card just doesn’t seem worth it when you already carry the sapphire reserve and amex platinum. I assume your p2 already has a AU card or card of her own
True story: I booked thru the portal for flight from TPE to KHN and back via Shanghai.
Is this a hostage video or paid by Capital one!?
😂😂😂 how'd you know?! Did you see the subtle cries for help
Shout out to K-town 🤣
Reason 0 (not mentioned): Capital One paid me for my opinion change.
Damn, I wish they paid me. I would've made like 50 new Venture X videos if they did.
get more hairr cuts
lol does my hair look bad long? I also did like the shorter hair. it made me realize how long and messy my old hair used to look 😬
Ewww VX💩🚽
😂
🏆Venture X + SavorOne/Savor🏆 Thanks for the info + video!
Thank you for watching Jimmy! 🤙🏽 I think imma work on that Savor One next. But C1 is so sensitive to new inquiries so I'll have to wait a little longer.
Great card! Congratulations 🎉 Thanks for the overview Chase!🫵
Wassup Cesar! 🤙🏽 Thank you brotha
Does mileage expires for Cap1VX?
I’m sorry are you asking about the miles you earn or the statement credits?
If you are talking about the credits, then yes they expire in the sense that they do not roll over. But the normal Capital one miles or points do not expire as long as you keep a Venture card open.
Hi, I’m talking about the miles I earned. rn I have accumulated 200k miles, and thinking of saving it on our Europe trip next year for a business class accommodation. Thank you 😊
