I see a lot in the comments asking why homage an already affordable watch. I say many are underestimating what skmei did with their homage which was improve the very poor back light of the Casio F91. The other minor differences such as the feel of the strap and other little nuances are really trivial when considering the price of the F91 has went up almost double because of all the hype surrounding the watch brand and the influencers who have promoted it. I wouldn't take away from the casio as being a great watch however, skmei has provided good competition for the likes of the F91. If you look at other casio's similar to the F91 with casio's improved backlight you will be paying around $20 to $25 for basically just an updated backlight. Skmei has done that and still managed to keep the price even cheaper than casio. That's pretty awesome in my opinion.
-After owning the skmei for 2 months, I can tell you that it does not keep time as well as the Casio F-91w & runs fast. I compared it to my F-91 & my Casio multi-band 6 watch, that the time is updated every night from the atomic clock.
I glad you did a comparison of these blue dial digital watches because can see The Casio has the nicest blue out of the two. The Skmei is still a good watch because of its illumination and extra 20m of water resistance. I guess here you can keep The SKMEI as your beater watch and or a spare, so you don’t get your Casio damaged or beaten up.as much. Also at the moment of writing many places for the Casio blue version is out of stock but if you still wanting this style, it’s nice to know can get a similar watch to the Casio but of course we all wanting the Casio more 😊
Yeah it definitely is the nicer of the two but the skmei destroys the casios illumination. If Casio upgraded there's to something similar then it would likely be a fair bit more expensive. Shame really because it really needs it. Thanks for watching 👊
Of course the Casio wins this 'scrap', but to give it a 5 for illumination is EXTREMELY generous!! Should have been considerably lower. They are both very budget watches!
Never been a fan of digital/ lcd watches, last one I owned was a TRAFALGAR in 1979... but for work and the risk of getting damaged iv just bought a blue SKMEI off ebay with the blue metal strap for £12.00. Great review 👏
@@WesWatchRoom My Blue SKMEI as just arrived 💙 it was easy enough to set the time and date, adjusting the strap to fit was a but fiddley as managed to scratch the blue metal strap. It almost looks like a toy watch but I'll give it a go
Skmei has their strengths, however even though the Skmei is cheaper, the Casio is affordable as well so a majority of people will still opt for the Casio because of the respected name and digital provenance. In this case it seems unnecessary to find a homage for an already widely available watch. Thanks for sharing.
The only difference I can see in my opinion is the Casio movement is clipped together whereas the sky and the Schmale budget watches are screwed together with movements of screwed together with Phillips head screws that's the only difference I can say they accuracy is extremely close and the waterproof condition is pretty much the same
I already own the real deal F-91w (gold case version) my wife gave it to me as a gift, but I wanted the all black resin look, and that small backlight upgrade and it happens to be cheaper than the Casio
Except for Illumination the generic watch is garbage! Who makes a homage of a super affordable Casio anyway? Crazy! Great video Wes, keep thinking outside the box for content! Keep up great work Mate!💯💯💯💯💯💯💯👍👊
I don't get it either, maybe they were trying to show casio they could do it, for less and still make money? I'm not sure really but I think this whole thing has given me an idea. Not sure how it'll work out but I'm going to try. Thanks mate
I have the Skmei and it is definitely not junk. The backlight is something I use frequently and the Skmei backlight is excellent. The Skmei is somewhat less accurate though I can live with it gaining 15 sec/mo as opposed to about 5 sec/mo for the Casio.
Well they're upfront about it and they've made a couple of minor design changes. There are also quite a few no name F91s about and worst of all even counterfeit Casios. I guess it doubles the value of a generic digital watch if you put 'Casio' on the case. Skmei are not doing that and even seem to be developing a small cult following of their own.
Haha Skmei is one of those "brands" that just makes me think now why would you do that?? 🤣 homaging the cheapest watches on the planet! Casio all the way 😁 my wife has a fleet of f91w's for work she's in nursing & they take everything thats thrown at them all manner of knocks & bangs every fluid you can think of, she did try a Skmei a while back it lasted just over a week! 😅 Good fun vid mate.👍
Absolutely agree, it is an odd thing to homage but they're obviously cheap enough to make money on. And yeah I'd still pick casio too, but I wish their illumination was as good as the skmeis
Casio probably wants the battery to last longest, nostalgia and less production cost vs the illumination benefit vs battery . And keeps the size small vs illuminating may add size and weight . I had it in high school . Didn't appreciate it because I had a calculator watch before it , yet now I appreciate it more because of cost , simplicity and reliability , accuracy
Worn casio for years and tried the skmei and the crap viewing angle of the lcd makes it extremely annoying.....u can tilt a casio and still read it...the skmei is useless on an angle
@@WesWatchRoom it's so bad...pretty much the lume is the only good thing....but in saying that I would assume the skmei doesn't last 7 or so years on a single battery
I can understand a person who would buy a Omega Speedmaster or a Rolex Explorer II homage because he/she cannot afford to purchase the real thing. But honestly and rhetorically speaking, what is the point, besides the purpose of this video, of purchasing an imitation knockoff of perhaps the word's most famous and most inexpensive watch (F-91W)? What kind of person you have to be to do that?
@@WesWatchRoom yes-your probably right. I have the blue F-91 & it looks a lot better, but the backlight is better on the skmei. If I’m in a dark movie theater, it is just adequate enough to see the time if I have my glasses on.

No, this is not endorsed by casio at all. The casio is the better watch, just the SKMEI has a better backlight and the strap is a little more comfortable.
Hey guys, what do you think, is Casio still the king of budget watches are have they been knocked from the top spot?
No homage model number, no view.

Absolutely, wish casio would sort their illumination though.
Is the body (case) interchangable ? I mean, its nice to buy beat up casio for cheap and buy SKMEI just for the case

Me neither, but in some ways the skmei is actually better which I wouldn't have expected.
These watches look like the same size in the thumbnail, but the skmei is actually larger than the F-91. It is the size of the Casio A-168.
