  • Every week, IGN invites the creators of the biggest and best video games to watch -- often in horror -- as the world's top players break their creations and finish their games at record speed. This is Devs React to Speedruns.
    It takes most players between 12 and 35 hours to beat Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Watch as Eidos Montreal's Jason Dozois (Narrative Lead) and Matthew Thomas Labelle (Lead Dev QA) give their hilarious thoughts on what they think of speedrunner blancw's incredible run through their game.

      Most of these glitches can only be triggered with high fps and/or specific graphic settings such as version of directx. That's why speedrunners play it on PC. They can tweak the graphic settings or lower them to achieve the highest framerate. We don't get these glitches because we like playing games with the best graphic settings and normal fps 😁

    To answer the question about the Airwalk at 20:49 you know you have the glitch activated when you see Lara holding the grapple hook. On the failed attempts, she isn't holding it, but on the successful attempt, she has it in her hand.
    Also, to activate the glitch, you must grapple a ledge on the SAME FRAME you land from a jump.

    • @andrewpatterson3662
      @andrewpatterson3662 5 лет назад +5

      @DeltroxTv I don't know EXACTLY what the game thinks is happening, but it does seem like it thinks you are definitely walking on the floor. If you listen during the Airwalk, it sounds like Lara is walking on whatever she activated the glitch on, so in most cases for this run, it would be grass, so listen for the grass sounds while she's running through the air.
      Another example, which I don't think is shown in this run, but in Rise of the Tomb Raider, we use the same glitch. At one point, we activate the glitch standing on wooden planks, and when she is running though the air, you can hear the creaking of the wooden planks.

    • @Nina-cd2eh
      @Nina-cd2eh 4 года назад +2

      Yeah probably something along the lines of, the ledge grapple makes your 'box' stay in place, but your state changes/glitches (ie walking) so now the systems use the 'box' as a reference (eg sound and physics) for the glitched state.
      Literally my favourite thing about speedruns is seeing a game ripped to shreds with glitches like that, especially when it's not at all obvious how they work!

    The trick with speed running is there is almost ALWAYS some element of true mastery of key parts of the game the run requires. This means it is much harder to hold a record, because you will always have a possibility to shave off a few seconds from anywhere someone else has less than total mastery of unavoidable original parts of the game. This also requires people to iron out the gameplay and the sequence of events. No speedrunner is not a avid fan and player of the game they speedrun or exploit. It is a higher form of appreciation for your work, if anything. Devs should be honored when someone tries to break their game to be the best. ;)
