Masters of the Universe needs these stories and not just be stuck in the child centered Filmation show. There needs to be more than just He-Man’s story,
This episode was really cool. For a long time I thought blue people was just another ethnicity of human (like the green or red tribes in Moorcock's 'Sojan the Swordsman' stories or the slightly-off traits of different nationalities in 'The Worm Orobouros'). I'm *so* glad I got the "Rise" two-pack. Keldor is a frikkin badass and I never collected classics.
There is so much potential Matell can do with the Masters of the Universe IP in the form of movies, tv shows, and even video games. It makes me sad that they settled for Kevin Smith's vision, but that's a different discussion all entirely. I always found the Gar to be very fascinating and interesting because their is very little known about their cultural practices and why is there so much tension throughout the eons between the Gar and the Human Eternians or Hu-Ternians as I like to call them ;). I think it would be a very cool idea to explore more of the Gar and their history with the Human kingdoms and especially with the royal bloodline of King Grayskull during the reign of his descendants. One cool idea would be where after the Gar settled on their new home and their technology was superior than the Human Eternians their technology was also a beacon that has alerted the gaze of the Horde Empire and when Hordak Invaded Eternia they landed on the Gar's home first wihch resulted in the sinking of a good chunk of the island. And since the Gar technology was no match against Hordak and his army of Robots, Enslaved Mercenaries, Mutants, and even Demons. They valued their lives and submitted to Hordak and told him about the Magic the Human Eternians posess. Intrigued in the information and wanting to aquire more magic into his technologically advanced army to acheive ultimate power. Hordak lets the Gar live and recruits them into his army to over take the rest of eternia. Where they build temples dedicated to him and some of Hordak's most dutiful Gar legionaires become schooled in the dark arts by Hordak himself from his knowledge he's acuired after his many travels of conquering worlds and aquiring their knowledges on magic. But during the war between the Human Eternians, the Snake People, and Hordak, and what evils Hordak was doing to the Gar people. The Gar ultimately revolted against Hordak and joined their enemies the Eternians to help them defeat the armies of the Horde Empire at the last minute. Though thankful for their assistance, Eternians still hold a grudge against them who caught Hordak's attention and siding with him in the first place, and that can be used in their built up animosity that lasted for generations and why they were against the idea of Keldor being king. I also thought of an interesting idea of in how Skeletor was able to understand and maintain control over dark magic better than most black magic users and that is because he was schooled by his mother in the dark arts at a very early age. I thought of an idea that the Gar Witch Shikoti who is part of a cult following of very few Gar and other black magic users who still follow Hordak and is actually Keldor's mother who seduced King Miro during his travels in his youth which resulted in her conceivng a child with Miro. Wanting political power for herself and seeing if she can get the Gar people to rule the Eternians if she can put her son on the thrown. Shikoti spends the first several years of training her son Keldor in the basics of the black arts where he learns to master it at a very early age. Then when she heads to the Eternian Capitol and reveals to Miro and his then Wife Shikoti's and Miro's love child and first born of Miro's linneage. The political and personal atomospher became very tense and complicated between Miro, his wife, and the Eternian council. Miro takes it upon himself to accept Shikoti's permission to raise his son Keldor as part of her ploy to rule Eternia and get revenge against the Eternians through her son, but her plans backfire on her when Keldor felt abandoned by his mother when she left him alone in a place where Humans were judging him due to the color of his blue skin and learns his entire existance was to be a pawn for her. Keldor decided he wants nothing to do with his mother and seeks to rise above and better relations between with the Eternians and the Gar people as a means to defy his mother. Where Keldor before he becomes corrupted with the desire to rule, was once seen as a noble and likable character that many both Human and Gar saw him as honorable before his fall from grace in the classic Darth Vader style. Then after his banishment and his vows of revenge against his father, brother, and the corrupt council for denying his birthright. He returns to the books that his mother schooled him and learns about Hordak and when he summons Hordak's help, his prvious training in magic helps him master Hordak's intensive training of the Dark Arts times a thousand without killing himself which explains why Skeletor has complete control over the Havok Staff. I always wished Masters of the Univese uses that to help flush out why Skeletor is soo good with Dark Magic and it wasn't just because of Hordak's tutoring, but Keldor's previous training with his mother that helped him get a complete understanding of Magic from a very early age that grew with him over the years.
OMG, please tell me that you are going to do a video on each of the known species in MOTU to go along with the Gar and Snakemen vids, that would be so great! Thank you for all your good work!
Love all of the other fun pop culture references you put in these videos! But let's be honest what we really want is MotU characters riding dinos that transform or maybe even transforming MotU vehicles...
I believe "Filmation" was the only series that actually explained Marlena's origin as an astronaut, but I haven't really watched that series since I was a small child. Although I tried to give it a chance several times as an adult, I couldn't really get back into it, so I really don't remember much. So thanks to Scott for explaining this stuff to me & other MOTU fans. I hope "Revelations" expands & expounds upon Skeletor & the Gar. They should really tell the tale of how Keldor was transformed into Skeletor (like 200X did), & how he was cheated out of his birthright. While Skeletor being a chackling "evil boss" is ok for some, I prefer his backstory & motivations to be revealed in an actual show to better flesh him out. He's actually one "sympathetic villain" whose tale should be told so that he's a more nuanced character; Instead of the antiquated mindset of "different/ugly is bad because we don't find it attractive". If done right Skeletor could be like the "Dr. Doom" of the Masterverse, but I think Mattel would fear that'd make He-Man & co seem too much like antagonists (which many ppl don't realize doesn't necessarily mean villains).
@@TitularHeroine Well, that's only true in the case of "well-written villains". We all know that some villains are just "evil for evil's sake". 😂 I just like how characters like Skeletor actually has more potential & motivation behind what he does. It's just too bad that we really haven't gotten a story (in animation or live action) that tells Keldor's story, that doesn't just paint him as "the bad guy". He's not so much searching for power as he's trying to reclaim his birthright, which he was unjustly stripped of. While that surely doesn't make him a hero, it definitely doesn't make him a villain. What makes him villainous is the way he does things & I think that should be explored more. He's kind of like Magneto, in that regard.
at one point pre-series IIRC a MOTU Bible, was created that used the Astronaut Plot, but took it a step farther, stating that Beast man, TriKlops and Evil Lyn (complete with Punny Human Names) where her crewmates (but thankfully those origins never made it into Canon for anything released to the Pubic)
I use books now as a step stool to get what is on top of the shelf. I climbed the shelf last time, but everything including the shelf fell on top of me.
I never knew that about Shokoti! I saw Part I but not Part II as a kid (because it aired on a Friday in the winter and the Sabbath starts really early then), and it took me thirty years to catch the conclusion... on RUclips!
Shokoti being a Gar is a retcon. Gars were created by the 2002 series. This channel focuses on the classics continuity- which was a Mashup of the 2002 series with more 80s elements especially ones that never got fully developed as an ultimate take on the story. It's a fun video but applying it to other continuities is at your own risk. For example 2002 Marlena was not from Earth. 80s was and classics is. I'm happy for you that you finally saw House of Shokoti part II.
It always my favorite episodes of the Filmation series & it's the only MOTU Classics action figure I own...I wish they had brought her into the 2002 series.
@@lucasbachmann And the term Gar actually is from 2008 onward in Classics. In 2002 series Yes they created Anwat Gar. But no script or Series bible says there is a race called the Gar. It was invented much later. (Also producer in 2002 said Sy-Klone was last defender of Anwat Gar. But never that he was Gar himself. It came from 2008 stories)
When I was an undergraduate I was taking a class titled, “Civil War and Reconstruction.” This was back in the Spring Semester of 2002. I was very proud that I did not use one resource/book that was already in my Possession! Also, yes later, another moment of proudness came to me when I came to realize I came up with the same thesis for that paper as James McPherson (one of our most renowned Civil War historians of the past 40 years) used for one of his many books, “The Crossroads of Freedom.” His book coincidentally came out at the same time as my paper. However, I did not discover his book until several years later.

Man I kinda wish they did something with the origins of the gar in some way like due to some shenanigans he-man, his mom and some other characters get sent to the planet before the accident to find it in a middle of a war with some space enemy and have to make a moral conundrum on what to do with the situation with letting time take its course or try to prevent it with risk of changing the time line and possibly unleash a mysterious enemy into the modern era but our heroes being smart, clever, resourceful and the help of the gar are able to steal the enemies way of transporting there forces and use it to move or phase the planet away from the wormhole path which spares the plant but allows he-man mother and the ship which contained the original fleeing gar that was a last chance escape ship originally to pass thru not damaging the time line except the planet it's self gets dragged along and stops in the current era eternia system which allows a new planet to be explored with new toy lines including a new enemy faction that decides to rear it's ugly head again
May be Kronos is also half Gar (may be he was in an alien gang) thats why he was in another planets prision 🤔 may be his father was the other trap jaw and the reason he became the new Trap jaw (After he fail to betray skeletor) is because he has the skematic of the Cybernetic parts of his old man and they were easy to make... Just an idea
@@spectorcreative1872 i will be frank I am one of the Boys that grew up with Mike Young vertion and then saw the 80s in ree runs (The mexican voice of He man is Epic). Sadly She ra was hardly to find.
Soooo...a couple of things I find kinda interesting or tragic: Marlena, mother of Prince Adam (and therefore He-Man) accidentally not only influenced Eternia's history to change culture towards merging magic with technology, but she was also (indirectly) responsible for the creation of Skeletor. Am I the only one who finds that tragic and dark? Btw. it's really interesting how much difference there is between the MotU universes (Masterverse). Here in Germany most kids (myself included) grew up with the audio dramas instead of the cartoon. Not only were the audio dramas A LOT more serious (and sometimes dark) in tone and less "cartoony", but the origin story of Skeletor was also completely different. There was no Keldor. Giants lived on Eternia for centuries. They messed up their home planet and took refuge on Eternia in order to allow their homeworld to heal (ironically turning a part of Eternia into a desert...the Sands of Time in the process), but they actually created Skeletor, transferred all evil that was within them to Skeletor and then sent him through time...into the future in order to get rid of him. So in that origin story, they were responsible for Skeletor's existence and the fact that he threatened Eternia during King Randor's reign. Also...Skeletor wasn't just trying to get into Castle Grayskull...he was actually trying to KILL He-Man on multiple occasions. The Masterverse is really cool - so many stories, so many twists and turns. And everybody gets to pick what he or she prefers to be "canon" in a sense.
@@spectorcreative1872 That's an easy one: learn German and there you go ;) Just kidding. I think there are English transcripts for a few episodes. One of them being the 11th episode named "Anti-Eternia". Gotta dig deep into the web to find them though. In case you want those, I can try and find them for you. That way you at least get some impression of how the dialoges and overall stories played out.
Hmm.. That was very interesting video. Story wise, it reminds me a bit of IDW origin of Decepticons becoming a faction. Or to put it better, Megatron like most of the cons where either mine workers, soldiers, or just worked on low paying, and dangeroes jobs. Where Megatron fought for equeal treatment for all cybertronians, regardless who they where. But when the democracy failed, they turned to violence. Or in short, bouth stories show specific races, or factions, going to the Darkside. Usually because of the neglect, or crueal treatment. Sometimes creating even worse monsters, them the one's who opprested them. Also, what exackly Sy-clone is? Or at least the one from 2002 series. I'm asking since you sayed he was a Gar, with means he was an organic beam. And the said series, bouth power and look wise, depicked him more like an robot, or at least a cyborg closer to a Robocop, them the Trap Jaw.
The real tragedy of Megatron of Tarn is that his manifesto was one of peaceful demonstration and change through reinforcement of positive ideals. Unfortunately wanting to stand against Cybertron's corrupt politicians was to brand yourself a criminal, and criminals tend to congregate with fellow criminals. Megatron found others wanting to overthrow the establishment, but mostly they just wanted to cause chaos and destruction. And eventually, after years of fighting alongside his "Decepticons," Megatron lost sight of himself and what he originally stood against.
@@spectorcreative1872 well, since you responded to my coment, can you explain one thing for me? Or to be more specific, , what exackly Sy-clone is? (and yes I known I asked about this in original comment. But so far, all the responses I got are direckted towards my "MOTU/ TF villains conparison".) Or at least the one from 2002 series. Hawkeye's long lost father who was an Olympic Archer kidnapped by the Kree when Hawkeye was a kid so he was unable to return Starboost Armor as Starburst, the Kree Iron Man Blue Titan figure on order, as the Kree Hulk. He's for making customs but I think as is he makes a great Kree Hulk 2 Kree soldiers from the old 2-packs If I can get Keldor I would have him be like a muscular Kree sorcerer, and I would figure out the young Trapjaw and Faker. Yes, I am very weird.
Damn, there's a lot of great stuff that Lying-Crying Kevin could have included. If only he was an actual fan and not the melting slab of butter shill he really is.
I have been knocking around an idea in my head for a while now. Basically we the fans compile a series of fan animated episodes that focuses on a He-man like figure for an episode or two. Characters like King Grayskull, He-ro, Wonder Bread He-man aka Wun-Dar the Savage He-man, and it all cumulates to an episode with He-ro II, the son of He-man and Teela, vs the Unnamed One. Basically an anthology series akin to Heavy Metal or The AniMatrix, but made by fans for fans. I got dibs on the Wun-Dar episodes though!
Queen Marlena's... uh... skeleton in her closet is kind of the most amazing ploot hook for someone to write a MotU story about "Revelations". It's a little better than a military officer getting angry at not being privy to classified information/orders - not that that can't be done brilliantly, see Courage Under Fire or Crimson Tide. Real question: were the Gar used as the in-universe stand-in for racism, don't-judge-a-book-by-its-cover moral tales the He-Man (at least Filmation) was famous for?
Wouldn't it be incredible if a present-day Gar on Eternia learned the queen was inadvertently responsible for the destruction of their ancestral homeworld? Imagine if the Gar tried to use time travel, perhaps some cosmic key, to prevent the destruction of Garius. Oh, my gosh, what if that's the secret reason live-action movie Skeletor wanted the cosmic key and access to the powers of Grayskull? What if he needed all the power of the universe to change history and save Garius?
It's actually a good thing Skeletor is such a typically selfish evil villain. If the Gar homeworld was not destroyed, it erases him as well. He might actually team up with the good guys to stop a time travelling Garminator to hunt down Marlena's mom on Earth. That would make a great, more mature-oriented, story with all its shades of grey and historical weight.
Wow this story was better than Kevin Smith’s master of the universe revaluations, including all episodes. You need to take his role in producing a real he-man series.
Wouldn't expect you to do a video on the history of humanity as a whole in MOTU, that'd probably be massive, but I think a video on humanity's origin and how they became so wide spread could be interesting. Or would that just be their whole history anyway?
The comic adaption of the Dolph Lundgren movie had an American flag in storage in castle Grayskull. So humans were descended from time traveled astronauts. My personal headcanon fanfiction is that like Stargate SG1 - the various races on Eternia were abducted by the Snakemen galactic empire as slave labor. Note in 80s minicomics the snakemen were from space and the Horde was just an army on ancient Eternia. Filmation made the Horde a galactic empire.
I have just recently bought the OG He-man box set and am working my way through it. Now I want to start collecting the action figures. I have Prince Adam, Teela, She-ra, Beau (and another female character I don’t know fromShe-ra) action figures, but I want more now.
Being of Asian descent, it is a bit weird to have Gar basically the Asians in Eternia. However, I completely understand why Mike Young did that - they were contractual obligated to introduced the Samurai variant toys into the cartoon, and there tried to explain their existence in the world of Eternia.
I always identified with monster characters more than the normal human-types. It's honestly a question that I should spend some self-reflection on sometime.
You know what's fun about master of the universe escape from the reality about politics and race make up your own master of the universe characters Fun fancy Adventures
Thanks for the excellent video. Will you consider creating a video that (in broad strokes) takes the viewer through the central points of creating a toy line? I would love this and if it is popular, I would be fascinated to see a series on that dips in (on occasion) to expand on some of the intricacies of the various steps. (I have an idea for a toy line that I feel might be palatable for boys from 8 to 12).
If a group truly wishes to demoralize their enemy, you must destroy the Post Offices. I was listening... Also thanks for all the glorious bloob action.
Here is the History. Some dude came up with a design that the company liked... They came up with a campy name, slapped it on the figure and pushed it out on the market. Everything else is post hock.... MOTU wasn't developed by writers it was started by toy designers to sell toys... All this backstory nowadays is B.S., most of it was ripping of Conan The barbarian and putting it out there for kids.
Hang on a sec . . . I've been under the impression that Kronis was from a different planet or dimension, and therefore not a Gar. As for Tuvar, considering those cranial ridges, I'd always assumed he was some other species. As for named Gar, there're also Hexon, a sorceror from the Filmation episode "Time Doesn't Fly" and Vormus, the Curator of the magic shop Two-Bad raided to get the Tablet of Separation.
@@Beedo_Sookcool Seriously. I remember watching the Filmation series when I was in middle school to high school (Yes, I'm that old.), but I don't recall the minutiae you have expelled. We tried to pay homage to that in Classics by noting when he was combined with Demo Man he temporarily went mad thinking he was a demon from another dimension! ruclips.net/video/8_I8Ocp3PNQ/видео.html

@@spectorcreative1872 Totally understand. It's a pretty big departure from the tone and source material. Looking forward to seeing more of your content! :)
I don't know if you were aware of this, but Keldor might've been a follower of Hordak (She-Ra's BBEG) since both the Filmation & 2002 series showed it. She-Ra's origin movie showed the "master and apprentice" bit the two had in the former timeline while Skeletor's origin in the latter did so; communing with Hordak turned Keldor into Skeletor after the attempted coup'de-ta against King Randor failed.
I wonder , if Keldor was able to keep the throne and ruled peacefully, would his heir possibly stand against the Horde? What great evil would attack or threaten Eternia and Castle Greyskull if there was no Keldor turning into Skeletor... I'd rather not just go to making Randor being bad or something... I might write something but I'm curious.
considering the 'repaint List" has 200x Evil Lyn, Green Goddess Teela and Faker/vintage head HeMan (however one parses those semantics) I'd imagine if the line lasts we'll see him and a Tri-Color Sorceress for sure ... Disco's Cult Status has me thinking they might be saving him... let the customizers make him from normal ones... and then if/when line starts winding down use him to use up any leftover materials...
Seeing the depth of eternian lore, an MMORPG based on MOTU would be awesome! Expansions could add horde space, preternia and subternia to the setting! 😃

Love all of the other fun pop culture references you put in these videos! But let's be honest what we really want is MotU characters riding dinos that transform or maybe even transforming MotU vehicles...
Ummm yeah!!!
Love this content!!! After the Kevin Smith HE-MAN Revelation debacle. Love the memories of real og MOTU line.
Msade with love!
Well-said. To just touch on the "antagonist" point, no one is a villain in their *own* story.
The 1982 DC comics and Classics also had her as an astronaut from Earth

Soooo...a couple of things I find kinda interesting or tragic:
Marlena, mother of Prince Adam (and therefore He-Man) accidentally not only influenced Eternia's history to change culture towards merging magic with technology, but she was also (indirectly) responsible for the creation of Skeletor.
Yeah I wish I could become more familiar with the audio drama!
@@spectorcreative1872 That's an easy one: learn German and there you go ;)

Maybe

Old Man Hawkeye as Clint Barton sr. Hawkeye's long lost father who was an Olympic Archer kidnapped by the Kree when Hawkeye was a kid so he was unable to return
Starboost Armor as Starburst, the Kree Iron Man

It would be one long video

i"m waiting for your reaction on REVELATION series :)
Here you go! ruclips.net/video/4O7MT_upNbQ/видео.html
4:03 Black hole? Wormhole Scott, it's called a wormhole.
I call it a Farnsworth hole
Wow. I'm surprised you actually mentioned Illumina considering she's always had this air of controversy around her.
Personally I would've loved to see her make it to plastic, *BUT!* only if she came packed with that white cat. Any character with a trademarked steed or vehicle automatically gets elevated in coolness...
(ahem...SpectorMobile 😉)
I never get why she is controversial. She is a cool character!
🤷♂️
I only know bits&pieces of the story. Frankly I never knew what was true from false.
Whoever drew this probably knows a heck of a lot more than I do, or at least thinks they do:

👍👍👍👍,cool información...
Fun stuff
Where can i find the contentof these beginnings.....i really want to ready up on them
MOTUC comics, maps and bios
For this story. Its in ”Classics” bios. For a different story, there are also the modern DC Comics (2012-2016). :)
Who is the yellow helmet guy at 13:35?
Really fascinating stuff man! As I've been wanting to do a She-Ra D&D game, I've been wondering about the blue race!
Outta curiosity, would you ever consider doing Netflix's She-Ra and the Princesses of Power lore? I realize it's a pretty different take on the franchise and probably a bit outside your demographic - I just thought I'd ask!
I'm not a big fan of that show
@@spectorcreative1872 Totally understand. It's a pretty big departure from the tone and source material. Looking forward to seeing more of your content! :)
How can Keldor be Gar and King Randor's brother simultaneously?
The word you’re looking for is “worm hole”.
Or pie hole
Nice. Very well done. Glad i found this one. Ps. Comment 420! WooHoo!
Woo hoo indeed
Go Gar! Go Gar! It’s your birthday! Go Gar!
Heck yeah
I don't know if you were aware of this, but Keldor might've been a follower of Hordak (She-Ra's BBEG) since both the Filmation & 2002 series showed it. She-Ra's origin movie showed the "master and apprentice" bit the two had in the former timeline while Skeletor's origin in the latter did so; communing with Hordak turned Keldor into Skeletor after the attempted coup'de-ta against King Randor failed.
He was an apprentice to Hordsk! See mini comic 4.
@@spectorcreative1872 I only brought it up because it wasn't mentioned in your video, that's all
I wonder , if Keldor was able to keep the throne and ruled peacefully, would his heir possibly stand against the Horde? What great evil would attack or threaten Eternia and Castle Greyskull if there was no Keldor turning into Skeletor... I'd rather not just go to making Randor being bad or something... I might write something but I'm curious.
That would be a great episode of What If!
A thought just came to me.Are Orko's race related to the Gar?
No
All the progressive stuff like changing characters to Asian or black has me wondering if Kevin Smith was working on this back then, too..
Nope. Just me
If they don't make a disco Skeletor for origins and revelations they are going to miss out on some easy money.
Hell yes.
considering the 'repaint List" has 200x Evil Lyn, Green Goddess Teela and Faker/vintage head HeMan (however one parses those semantics) I'd imagine if the line lasts we'll see him and a Tri-Color Sorceress for sure ...
Disco's Cult Status has me thinking they might be saving him... let the customizers make him from normal ones... and then if/when line starts winding down use him to use up any leftover materials...
Seriously
