Recycled Sonic Music

  • Like many video game franchises of the past, Sonic the Hedgehog is known for having memorable music. But did you know that sometime, some of the pieces of music that appear aren't actually new pieces at all?
    It's worth noting that I've left out the origins of Green Hill Zone, Starlight Zone and the ending of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as they all came from a popular J-Pop band, Dreams Come True. Mainly did so to avoid any copyright issues RUclips might try pulling. In fact, one of the band members helped make some of the music from Sonic 1. I would suggest looking them up!

      I literally didn't even notice it was from more than a year or two ago until you pointed it out 🙀 No wonder none of the games after Unleashed & Sonic 4 were shown; they hadn't come out yet!!
      ...Though, aside from the obvious reprisals/remasters in Generations, as well as some obvious character theme song reprisals in Black Knight and the 3D car racing trilogy (Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing, Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing Transformed, & Team Sonic Racing), i don't think i can think of any other actual examples from the later games like the ones in this video. But i'm sure there's more in the later games as well!
      Also, fun fact: in the early 2000's (2003 maybe?), Jun Senoue worked with a band called RxR to create another version of the Emerald Coast theme shown in this video, A.K.A. the act 1 music, "Azure Blue World" -- except RxR's version is somewhat pitched down into a little bit of a lower key, and most of the main guitar bits of the song are replaced with vocals and lyrics!! The song is called "Ready, Go!" and was only made in Japanese, but there are English translated lyrics online!

    i love Recycled Music. it's not like they're trying to be lazy. they're new versions of great themes.
    3:00 i can't actually tell, and actually don't believe Emerald Coast is even Recycled from Spring Stadium Zone.
    4:06 Windy Valley is too perfect. nobody would rather it not exist.
    5:01 also Twinkle Park. that music never had a stage before. now it was made even more memorable/aesthetic.
    5:49 Sunset Hill is a nice version of its own for the Gameboy, reminding you of the Megadrive original.
    6:41 Savannah Citadel really makes good use of the original credits theme
    7:08 Sonic the Hedgehog in 3d, i mean, 4, boss theme is cool that it came from unused beta. not the same kind of a recycle.

    • @acronym.4328
      @acronym.4328 3 года назад

      06' only had a group of problems we can name, it goes as:
      - The bugs and glitches, just look at Wave Ocean.
      - The story, even if a lot of Sonic games don't focus on that a lot, they could have made it in an average or good levels as the past 3D games before this one.
      - The execution, the game felt all over the place to me, and the "kiss" part gave me a bad feeling in the end.
      - The optimization for consoles of that generation, just look at the load times.

      Sonic used to be about the console crunching math equations like crazy for physics-based platforming

    • @Liam3072
      @Liam3072 7 лет назад +23

      If you replay the Genesis episodes, you'll notice that usually only the first zone of each game was really entirely about speed (and even then, that's only totally true for Sonic 1 and 2). Later zones always tended to be more about platforming and a bit more "chill". Think Marble Zone in Sonic 1 and how you had to stop to push blocks or stand on them while they moved slowly across lava).
      So yeah, Sonic was kinda about speed but not entirely either.

    Love this song. I remember when a friend first told me that the theme for Lost Impact on Shadow the Hedgehog was the theme for Panic Puppet: Act 1 for Sonic 3D Blast on the Sega Saturn/PC and I thought he was kidding until I heard it myself. Most people think that's lazy but, in my opinion, it keeps nostalgia going AND Kirby, Super Mario and Final Fantasy games do it all the time.

      I would consider it to be a good thing, since you had a great style of narration at a time when not a lot of people were doing the same thing :D
