  • Bhutan's governing party pledged recently to follow the policies of the absolute monarchy it is replacing, after it won a landslide in the country's first parliamentary elections. This remote, beautiful country truly is in the throes of a noble experiment. What makes this experiment unique is that this move towards democracy has been initiated by the ruling monarch himself.
From Elizabeth II to Cleopatra, Real Royalty peels back the curtain to give a glimpse into the lives of some of the most influential families in the world, with new full length documentaries posted every week covering the monarchies of today and all throughout history.

I am never ashamed to call myself a Bhutanese no matter which part of the world I live. I always count it as my biggest blessing to be born in such a paradise like Bhutan where even if a subject is down with flu, the king will come with medicines. If your job gets laid off, the king will give you salary. If you are not able to pay off your loan, the king will pay it for you. If you are stuck in another country due to the pandemic and cannot afford the medical bills, , the king will rent a flat for you to quarantine yourself. If you are inside the county and needs quarantine , he books your stay in all the luxury hotels with the best food and full wifi.. I mean I can’t even count the blessings. Kadrinchey mewamg yab sey cho.. ngay gyalpo kutsey chu ley ring par sho 🙏🙏🙏

@Very Good During the 18th and 19th century Bhutan's population was only around 100,000 so suddenly during the 20th century how did population in southern Bhutan increase drastically? Also during the invasion of British India in 1864, the troops defending Bhutan were from western and eastern Bhutan as there wasn't much people living in southern Bhutan. Historically there is proof that massive immigration happened during the 1900s which led to massive population in southern Bhutan.

Honestly, just come out with it and accept you're one of those individuals who've been using religion as nothing but a means to further your own propaganda. This country, I must say, is a good example for everyone to see. Sure, they also had their issues. Their leaders have also faced problems along with their ways, but what amazed me is how they were able to lead their people in an inclusive manner. Man, just look at how their people love their leader! It only shows how much they respect and honor them. And, for your people to actually adore you that much, you must really be good in many ways.
Bhutan's system may have changed, but their leader's goal and dedication to his people are still very evident. Truly, in order to make your country flourish, everyone must be involved. The success of your land cannot only be determined by one mind but a whole nation. I wish nothing but the best for this small nation. Mm, Buthan drove brutally out all their citizens they did not want. Happy country. I would like to drive also all our citizens out, l do not like. We would be also a happy country to me, but l would like to hear the outcry of the world. I don’t see happiness on many faces of this secluded, isolated country, where they work very hard long hours to make a living. The poor little monk boys, who do not live with their families for various reasons, like poverty, orphaned, and so on do not look happy, either did they look happy in Tibet.
But to live without all the rubbish, and environmental disasters we “Westerners” produce has something very appealing. Everything has its price.
I am not saying, the people of this country might not be satisfied with their lives, but to idealise living conditions in poor countries is not right either.
Even in our high-tech society we can make own decisions not to participate in outrageous consumption, and live a fulfilling life, if we choose to do so. No need to worship other countries living conditions. Thank you.

@Nosy ethnic cleansing? or rather cleansing of threat to the sovereignty of a small kingdom that has been doing whatever it can to preserve it's independence. If it was ethnic cleansing indeed, why do several ethinicities still coexist peacefully there with equal excess to everything. Why just a bunch. A small country like Bhutan cannot afford to be divided from within especially when there are several threats from outside. The rulers have fought to unify the country and a bunch of immigrants revolts against the very idea of unity that has played a major role in its sovereignty ; politics isn't always about roses. A king had to do what he could at that time to keep the country standing.

There are various issues with the documentary in the 1st half. Some of the major points are below.
1)The documentary skipped the history of the entire 19th century and introduced British only in the 20th century. This is a huge skip of more than 100 years. 19th century history of Bhutan is as important as 20th century in leading towards the creation of monarchy.
    2) The British and their struiggle with Bhutan during 18th and 19th century was omitted. It is to be noted that British India annexed many contested regions of Bhutan by the end of 19th century, in the course making Bhutan wearker in economic resources and politically.
    3) Before the monarchy was established, Bhutan was ruled by Dev Raja and Dharma Raja and those posts were of political and religious stature and both were not hereditary. This part of history seems to be ignored.
    4) Bhutanese civil war is too simplified in the documentary while it wasnt as simple as it is shown.
The points i've mentioned above are just few among the many that needs to be discussed. Though I can understand that there is crunch of limited time but then a short description might have been sufficient. But i need to point out that there is a clear omission of many important historical events in the documentary. Therefore, the documentary can be concluded as weak and it reflects a narrative which is selective and biased.
    Regards.

We know the truth, we know our dark history and we have learned to embrace it and we have learned from it. 🙏 And I hope people who are commenting on the nepalis issue would really do the fact check and not just judge based on the stuff you get on Wikipedia or just one video and webpage. Let's be a bit smart and media educated ✌

Nobody tolarets ethnic cleansing anymore bruh. Doing it in the name of saving culture, actually it was way of staying in power for the wangchuk elites, not saving culture or sovereignty as many bhutanese are claiming. There are so many countries like bhutan who have several ethnicities and those countries exists, even next to big country. Also about protest of lhotsampas, it happened because u guys suppressed their identity, if government had given them equal representation, it wouldn't happen, but king was there in the quest to maintain his power no matter what.

This video goes really too deep into real Bhutanese story. But one thing I want to contribute to it was when the 4th king became king in his 17, the threat wasn't from China, it was actually from India. When Sikim was annexed by India around 1970s, it was real threat within that Bhutan could be next. That's the reason the govt tried to integrate Nepali as one people so Indian govt cannot do what they did to Sikim. (Pls refer how Sikim was annexed for more info)
You have already gone so deep so I'm just contributing to it.

The decision was met with public unrest and a lot of disputes and cry for peace, before the final annexation of Sikkim by India. On 14 April 1975, a referendum was held, in which Sikkim voted to merge with India. Sikkim became the 22nd Indian State and on 16 May 1975, and Sikkim officially became an Indian state.
real threat is China who annexed Tibet and His Holiness Dalai lama had to take refugee in India and India welcome them with thousands of Tibet Refugees who are peacefully Living in India. Sikkim annex by India with referendum Of people, They chose to be merge with India
and India take responsibility to defend Bhutan In case of Any military threat From China

Thankfully finally Germany kicked him out, as it is illegal to rule another country from Germany. But it took much toooo long to throw him out. Thailand is a Monarchistic Dictatorship where the citizen have nothing to say, or they land in prisons tortured for years without end, and justice. This is not my personal view, l read the rules which are applied in Thailand. Very sad. I love the Thai people, culture, and their attitude to life, but not their Politics, nor Kingship.
