  • According to the China National Space Administration (CNSA), the Chang’e-6 lunar lander has successfully collected lunar samples from the Apollo crater, located in the South Pole-Aitkin impact basin on the far side of the Moon, on 2-3 June 2024. Chang’e-6 used two methods for collecting lunar soil: drilling to collect subsurface samples and grabbing from the surface with a robotic arm.

      @@dansv1 you are right. Last I read, it took the machine 48 hours to get the sample. Based on the video, the light rays of the sun means it took the sample at 120'C these past 48 hours. So, no temperature fluctuations of 300'C this time.

    • @TheSteveSteele

      @@junaidisalam5718 I really don’t like taking sides but, the Chinese space station is 1/5th the size of the ISS which is mostly US designed, made and funded, and the ISS has been up there doing science for 20 years! The Russians had MIR in the ‘90s, and Salyut in the ‘70s and ‘80s. NASA had Skylab in the early ‘70s. Why do you have to pick a side? I’m very happy for China, but compared to NASA, China is just getting started. China is the 6th nation to make it to the moon. Five other countries beat them there. But if you really want to compare, then how about all the probes NASA has sent around the solar system? NASA has sent probes to the Sun multiple times, to Mercury (which is the hardest planet to get to along with Pluto), Venus multiple times, Mars multiple times, Jupiler multiple times, Saturn multiple times plus Titan (thanks to an ESA probe), and Pluto a few years ago. NASA has sent two probes out of the solar system that were built in the ‘70s and they still work(!), and I think a third is close behind. NASA has two deep space telescopes, Hubble and Webb, (which have possibly viewed one of the oldest galaxies in the known universe!) And they’ve done about a hundred other things I don’t have time to mention, including inventing the space suit, and building a space plane, the Space Shuttle, etc etc.
      Most of the bad things that happen around NASA are due to contractors not fulling their contracts. NASA has already sent their SLS to the moon and landed back on earth. They’re waiting for Boeing and SpaceX to get their act together and deliver on the promises that they took billions of dollars for. Blame them! But seriously, sincere congrats to China for their great mission. But don’t hate on NASA. I know many NASA employees and they are smart, hard working, good people that are highly educated. NASA and the Soviets paved the way for all other countries to have space programs. All other nations have learned from the US and the Soviets. In fact, to be perfectly honest, the design of Chinese rockets are directly “influenced” by US and Russian designs, and so is their space station. It’s basically a small copy of the ISS. Their current rocket looks exactly like the ULA rocket. And finally, neither the US nor Russia were technically the first nation to get to space with a rocket. The first was Nazi Germany when they launched V2 rockets at London. The V2 went into space before it came down. But you could also say the Chinese were the first to consider rocketry with the invention of fireworks. This all goes to show that ALL humans play an active role in technological developments, and that we shouldn’t disparage one nation in favor of another. Sorry for the long post.

      While the Japan's SLIM did flip, it still landed very precisely. But in terms of science mission ye it didn't do that well, but it was able to somehow survive 4 nights when it wasn't supposed to.

    55 years after Apollo 11 in 1969, I am glad the Chinese have arrived. Now we know there will finally be a moon base. Waiting for a US moon base is like waiting for them to make high speed trains like Japan did back in 1964 when the Beatles released their first album.

      It depends on what cameras and where on the moon. Some Chinese cameras show a gray surface, some a brown surface. Just like NASA and Russia have shown it to be.

    • @Dooguk
      @Dooguk 2 месяца назад

      @@TheSteveSteele It must be settings or filters on the cameras as these are all images from the same location. The landing timelapse images look nothing like the video feed.

      @@Dooguk I’m not sure about the Chinese cameras. But NASA’s footage shows a gray surface when they’re flying over it, and a brown surface when they’re on it. The earlier Apollo missions used black and white film, (Apollo 11,12 and 13), so that could explain that. Apollo 16 dug into the moon’s regolith and found orange dirt below brown dirt. It may be due to the angle of the sun’s light and the monotone brightness of the sun’s reflection for objects just over the surface that it looks gray. But that’s a total guess. I’m sure there are articles about this subject that explain why this happens.

    Why don't we already have too many samples of rocks from the moon, obtained from missions, obtained from meteorites ... it's more like a race again...
