  • THREE STORIES: The Most Mysterious Children in History
In 12th century England, two children were found lost in a forest. They spoke only gibberish, wore strange clothing and had bright green skin. When the children finally learned to speak English, they described where they were from. And that's why, after almost 1,000 years, people still talk about The Green Children of Woolpit.
In 1828, a teenage boy was shuffling through a public square in Nuremburg. He seemed confused and disoriented. He had trouble walking and speaking. When police finally approached him, he was holding an envelope containing two letters. And those letters sparked the mystery of Kaspar Hauser.
In April 1922, in Brittany, France, 2-year-old Pauline Picard went missing. A massive search turned up nothing. The family was losing hope.
A month later, Pauline was found wandering around a village over 200 miles away. Though her parents were overjoyed to have her back, they soon realized something wasn't quite right with their daughter.
These are three unsolved cases of the most mysterious children in history.

I can’t thank you enough for this channel.
My dad had a heart attack last week and was in congestive heart failure and all the time I was with him at the hospital or back at home, I was binge watching your videos to keep my mind from going certain places. When he was feeling much better the other day, Dad and I were watching together and he was thoroughly impressed with every video he watched and he’s become a fan himself. And he loves Hecklefish who I swear is my dad’s spirit animal.
Dad went home today, on his birthday, and he said he was looking forward to getting in his comfy chair and watching the rest of your videos.
So thank you for keeping me from losing it the last week. Thank you for giving my dad something new and totally awesome to watch. And most definitely, thank you for Hecklefish!!!

In 2002 attempt was made at the Department of Forensic Medicine at the University of Münster. Kaspar Hauser's hat, trousers and a number of curls were tested. The material came partly from Anselm von Feuerbach's private collection. The genetic code was the same in all items tested. They compared the genetic material to Astrid von Medinger, who was a descendant of Charles of Baden and Stephanie de Beauharnais, and it turned out that the DNA matched 95%.

One of the things you do so well with the channel is pacing. Maybe it's your background in production but the brilliance of using title cards and cut screens every time the audience has a question and then coming back in with the answer is just brilliant. It's like a mature version of the call and response that you often see in children's television. "Who? How? What? Why?" "Let me tell you." It's such a smooth way to engage with your audience beyond the comment section.

The last story sounds like the Missing 411 phenomenon. You should do a video on that. It’s very intriguing and mysterious. David Paulides is great and all, but sometimes his storytelling gets a bit depressing because he talks about suicide constantly.
This is because his son committed suicide a couple years ago, which seemed to me like not much of a coincidence since his father was in the middle of uncovering one of the biggest mysteries in recent history. That is a story within itself if you ask me.

The green children fascinated me when I first read about them as a child (obsessed with the paranormal since 1984 thanks Ghostbusters) and I always fancied the fairyland idea. But after listening to your episode about how we've evolved to see colour, I wonder if they really were green, perhaps just very yellow from jaundice? I'm also leaning toward being from another country, in the 12th century most people only knew their own region and had no experience of the languages, culture and costume of far away places. The deeper mystery is how they got so far away from their homeland...maybe *that part* is a time slip. 😉

So if a few countries are claiming it happened in their country well then it’s a hoax because no children could survive on one source of food.

    • @dr.feelgood.1330

Exactly the story didn’t begin in England because England had only three languages I think they were brought far away from their homes and left in a field near a town or village and maybe they were sick and were off color. The first people to tell this story were Germans so it had to be children from some place in Europe or euro Asia.

I read about the green children when I was a kid, and it always fascinated me. I agree with your theory about where they came from, and that they were most likely Flemish. It makes complete sense. I also considered whether they may have had jaundice or some other liver disorder, as that can make your skin go a strange yellow-ish green color. ( I have had hepatitis A, and was that kind of color myself).
The story of Pauline is a sad one. I believe that the parents made an honest mistake in their identification of the child that was found. They wanted for her to be their daughter so much that they overlooked anything that told them otherwise.

My own thoughts to add to the theory of the green Flemish children: The kids' world was a lush forest in perpetual twilight... because their parents never let them out during the day in order to remain in hiding. I also think that the kids were taught they came from _not_ St. Martinland, but that their people originated from St. Martin's land, as he was their patron saint.

    • @bromisovalum8417
      @bromisovalum8417 Год назад +1

That makes sense. St. Martin still is a celebrated patron saint in some part of Flanders even today. Some regions celebrated St Martin's Day instead of St. Nicholas' Day. Iirc they make large bonfires on St. Martin's day, or at least used to until recent "can't have fun anymore because of excessive nannystate" times and the general Americanisation of our holidays (meaning our own are dwindling, and replaced by imported stuff such as Halloween and Black Friday).

I would say that the children are most likely from the Beothuk/Algonquin tribes from Greenland or Iceland. Heres the logic
having "Green skin" is old Suffolk slang for someone who is said to be naive. (trust me, Im from East Anglia) They only ate the broad beans as it's the only food they vaguely the recognized which came here from Newfoundland. Sun never shines is a reference to Greenland or Iceland which has exended periods of darkness in the winter months. Unfamiliar clothing and dyes come from animals that wouldnt be known to the people of Suffolk (seals, walrus etc.), same goes for the lanague for that matter and the green light like twilight is a clear refrence to aurora borealis. (At this time of year, at this time of day...) and we know that both Greenland and Iceland both converted arund 1000 AD which explains st martins land
How they got there is another mystery entirely. Captured? Escapees? Refugees? Just wandered through a mysterious tunnel? who knows. Id say my logic and reasoning for who they were is pretty sound though

So true that story reflected bad on the parents mostly. How on earth would a 2 yr old be outside playing & the only time they are noticing she is missing, is when a child is not at the dinner table?

Very sad. And suspicious! She wouldn’t talk so they didn’t know what to do with her? She’s two.
I wonder if they found out she died from measles shortly after they dumped her? And if so, I wonder if it bothered them? The parents and the other eight kids?
It’s so odd that the supposed remains of the supposed real Pauline were found on the property where people had already searched. And with a skull of a grown “man”. If it weren’t for that, I’d think these were parents just trying to be rid of a child, but she was found so they had to be rid of her again.

I think they were either to poor to raise her or their grief was too much and seeing her made them more distraught which would have had a negative psychological effect on all involved.
Though some people would act opposite with their grief and clung onto her that too probably not good for either party either.
Personally the best option was to rehome her.
The big issue is the orphanages of this time and even now. We don't look after our abandoned young like we should.

I'm convinced that there's some kind of dimensional portal or something in suffolk..the green children of woolpit, the rougham Vanishing house, and the timeslips..it's wild but there's ALWAYS something happening in or around Suffolk and it always seems like it's extradimensional

Can't wait to hear this one. I have heard of the green kids, but not sure if I know the other two, I suspect I know of the boy wandering but the two year old found a month later sounds like a missing 411 case.
It would be really great if you did a video on missing 411 personally I think it it is much like the Bermuda triangle but really want to hear what heckle fish has to say!
