    I've been working on computers since 92ish. I've taken down hundreds of laptops to the bare components. I've built monster gaming machines, load bearing servers, gamers on a budget, workstations, full desktops that pull under 20 watts so that they can run on a cigarette lighter adapter in an airplane for aerial photography. I built modular wireless systems for long range wireless and use that to serve over 2500 sq miles high speed Internet in the boonies as well as every customer unit.
    I've built carburetors, engines, every component in a car aside from a transmission and differential from the base components. I've designed 400hp engines on a budget, tuned similar engines to get 24mpg with a carb in a classic car.
    I've spent two hours trying to get my wife's laptop apart so I can swap the wireless card and upgrade the RAM.
    Thank you for this video. I absolutely *hate* this computer.

      Finally took it apart after having it sitting around gathering dust for years only to find that it has no fan in it in the top left where it is supposed to be at.

    Thanks so much for this video! Decided that I would be a super nice guy, and upgrade my sister-in-law's old, slow HP 15-g073nr laptop, from 4gb to 8gb, and started trying to disassemble this monstrosity, before even confirming that I had the memory on-hand. :-D Thankfully I did, and, also thankfully, I found your video.
    I have worked on numerous laptops in my 35+ years in the biz, and this is one of the worst designed that I have had the displeasure of messing with. Whatever idiot thought that you should have to, practically, pull the whole thing apart, just to replace / upgrade the hard drive and memory (which was even worse), should be kicked in their most tender spots with full, brute force. There is a special, extra-hot place awaiting them in the after-life. LOL!
    Over 5 years since you posted this video, and you're still helping folks.

    You're a life saver my dude. I have never opened a laptop before, but I saw some other laptops and had a vague strategy I would use. I had to change strategy because you can't lift the back off like with the others over seen. I had eventually loosened every clip, but couldn't get the palm rest off. If it weren't for you showing that you had to disconnect the keyboard, I would have never gotten to the hard drive. Thank you for breathing new life into this machine!

    Yes! Yeees! Yeeeeesssss!
    Great video!
    This is the first video I found where I can see how to disassembly my HP 15r209nl laptop.
    HP sells the same case with hundreds of different names, and is difficult to find the exact video you need.
    After 2 years of research, I found this video, so I could change the hdd: the original one was terribly slow, at the start up is 100% occupied for more than 3 minutes.
    Now I can boot Windows 10 in less than 20 seconds (typing password included) and Ubuntu in nearly half the time.
    Thanks to your video I did not forgot any screw and was able to change the hdd with a ssd in a little more than 20 minutes.
    I spend 1 day to be able to make a dual boot working, but this is another story.

  • @malcolmsillick2192
    @malcolmsillick2192 5 лет назад +16

    Thank goodness I found this video. I was upgrading the old(slow) hard drive to an SSD for a friend. Done loads for other people, but this was the most difficult to actually get to the hard drive. What a dreadful design HP! Basics like the hard drive and RAM chips should be easy to get to. On this thing, it's easier to replace the keyboard.
    In terms of user friendlyness for the owner to be able to upgrade/repair, this laptop, it's on a par with something Apple would proud of. Got to say that even with a SSD inside, it still doesn't break any speed records. If you have one of these, I'd say replace rather than repair/upgrade.

      You just need to get it where the motherboard you can look under it to slide to ram in. Not difficult at all just be careful. I broke one screw slot off. Somehow somewhere lol

    From the video i cant figure out if it has one.

    • @rudyleplane727
      @rudyleplane727 3 года назад

      it does not. You can get an adapter but the problem is the chips on the M2 drive will sit upside down working together with the board to generate some real heat. These run hot anyway, but all in all I have had 3 of them and they suit all my needs.

    Does anyone know if you can upgrade the processor? Is it socketed or soldered to the motherboard?

    • @pxpin89
      @pxpin89 5 лет назад +1

      Its hot glued in place or some sort of clear glue on the corners of the chip, you can heat up the glue and pull it off. However since there is nothing to control the processor from moving you would have to glue it back on afterward.

      ναι man. I got the answer from hp's forum
      the whole HP 15-g2xx series has
      1 customer-accessible/upgradable memory module slot
      Supports single-channel memory
      DDR3L-1600-MHz Single Channel Support
      DDR3L-1333-MHz Single Channel Support (DDR3-1600 downgrade to DDR3-1333)
      Supports up to 8 GB of system RAM in the following configurations:
      ● 8192-MB total system memory (8192×1)
      ● 4096-MB total system memory (4096×1)
      ● 2048-MB total system memory (2048×1)

      Yes it does support an 8gb ram module. I have a ripjaws Gskill module, its a REAL pain to get it in... take your time on the keyboard disasebling. You can easily rip the flat cables (cant remember technical name) or they pop out of the adapter. I have replaced the RAM in 3 of these. Good little runners. I plan on adding a SSD. Not an M.2 unless they have changed the direction the chips set. They sit upside down and the heat from the board and the drive may get too hot. A regular SSD is where I plan to go. Hope this helps!
