Project-18 Destroyer
MDL is the only Indian shipyard having experience & expertise to build destroyers. At present, MDL is executing the Project 15B Visakhapatnam-class destroyers which will complete by the year 2024. MDL has also started discussion with Indian Navy on Next Generation Destroyer(NGD). During its investor call of Q1 FY23, the firm has informed that a total of 8 NGDs will be build under two phases. The entire project is estimated to worth $10 Billion. MDL is procuring a new floating dry dock to accommodate the massive 10,000 tonnes Next Generation Destroyers (NGD).
DRDO’s long range multifunction radar (LRMFR)
The most noticeable change in the Project-18 class destroyers is going to be their radars. In almost all latest naval warships, we can see Israel’s MFSTAR mast-mounted radar. This will be likely to be replaced with DRDO’s long range multifunction radar (LRMFR).
INS Anvesh, a technology demonstration vessel (TDV) being built for DRDO at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has been fitted with a housing for a new type of dual-panel long-range radar system by LRDE called Long-Range Multi-Function Radar (LRMFR). It is an active phased array radar with a range more than 500 km & features octagonal faceplates that are approximately 5.5-6 m in diameter. Therefore, instead of mast mount radar, NGD may feature a multi-faced Active Phased Array Radar (APAR) based on LRMFR. The NGD will require 2 types of main APAR radars - one for shorter-wavelength & another one for longer-wavelength. LRMFR will perform the role of target tracking to fire control for SAMs/BMD. The NGD will feature HUMSA-NG - a third generation ship borne, hull mounted, Sonar system developed by DRDO and productionised by BEL.
NGD Weapons & fire
The Next Generation Destroyer will be built to fire the arrays of indigenous weapons for anti-surface, anti-submarine and land attack roles. With 128 VLS, the warship will have massive fire power. The key weapons of the destroyer will be BrahMos Missile, BrahMos-NG, LRSAM-ER, Nirbhay/ITCM LACM, MRSAM, XRSAM & VL-SRSAM & AAD. The destroyer will also be equipped with lighter version of SMART ASW missiles for taking on enemy submarines & Advance Torpedo Decoy system. The missile has a range of 643 km (400 mi) carrying a lightweight torpedo of range 20 km (12.5 mi) with 50 kg high explosive warhead. The 533mm Varunastra (or some future version of it) is likely to be the main torpedo armament. NGD may also feature a UVLS (Universal VLS) which will eliminate the need of multiple missile launchers. It will feature a 127mm main Naval gun and three 76mm Super Rapid guns.
Navy has even planned to integrate DEW. DRDO is in process of developing a 100kW DEW called Durga-II. The PSU has also developed a 25kW DEW that can neutralize a ballistic missile at range of 5KM. BEL is already producing the laser dazzlers for Indian Navy warships. The DEW to be used in NGD may be a version of 100kW DEW being developed by DRDO. The DEW will be used as close in weapon system and may be complement or supplement the traditional CIWS.
DRDO is also working on Electromagnetic Railgun. It has already developed 10 MJ rail gun and 100 MJ capacitor bank-based Rail gun is under development which could be possibly integrated with warships and could replace the Naval guns.

Great job!
Thanks brother
Pace of production can be increased if bulk orders are given. But that awareness is sadly lacking.
Also smaller vessels can be built faster so their orders should not be overlooked.
Very well explained video. Kudos to you for gathering all information
The price of procuring equipments is rising at a very high pace. I hope naval procurement planners will take note of that.
in absolute terms yes but it is aligned with inflation.. so with a inflation of 9 percent the price of equipment will be double every 8 years.
It should be 10lakhs: 3 lakhs : 2 lakhs .. strength army, airforce, navy.
The Navy has to become 3 times of existing strength.. country needs minimum 4 modern aircraft carriers 4 nuclear submarine,
I did agree India needs to get away from these ski jump carriers.thsy need super carriers and India needs at least 40 subs and 15 nukuler subs .and at least 50 destroyers.and 50 frigets .and a few helicopters carriers.yes I know this will take 20 30 years to get to this point .but India has China and Pakistan to deal with so Indians navy must increase big time
Interesting on future destroyers, i reckon India should build T26 then what Australian Navy usv floating warship fitted either AAW VLS or like WW2 PT boat this will give India technology surface fleet like RAN able cover large area like Indian Ocean. 4 large LHD definitely like RAN 2 LHD.
Any news on 127mm naval gun?
Government should give 1% annual budget to DRDO and 1% TO ISRO...
1% to ISRO is worth giving but 1% to DRDO? In DRDO only 5-10% of people are scientists.
@@pvraditya8075 i think due to low budget only scientists are less.
@@rajeshkoppa2367No. Usually, the work culture is not as serious and well-maintained like ISRO. We are good at missile development but our standards are low when it comes to developing aircraft and Submarines. India had 7 different types of fighter planes and now we are focusing on AMCA. We never had any dedicated development in a particular sector and we still never had our own aircraft engine.
@@pvraditya8075 why it is .. means work culture is loose ...
@@pvraditya8075 I don't understand what is with all this "ISRO good, DRDO bad" narrative. ISRO also has plenty of failures/delayed programs. SCE-200 is how old now? And what about the pathetic launch cadence?
Look at it objectively and you'll find that the top DRDO labs are just as capable as ISRO. It is just the nature of technology they are chasing that there are bound to be failures, setbacks, etc. Sure, DRDO work culture has problems, as does ISRO's work culture.
People unnecessarily like to hate on DRDO and praise ISRO, if you look at it properly, Armed Forces have been just as critical of ISRO as they have been of DRDO. Armed Forces are the ones that lack a deep technical cadre (especially the Army).
Where is our ciws and 127mm naval gun
They're sent on moon with chandrayan 3 for moon trials hopefully they pass all the parameters set by our forces .👍
They are in development. In service by 2025
They can always be imported😂
Bro be happy that these ships are not Imported one...... Import lobby in India is extremely influential and powerfull despite having ATAGS they were almost succeeded in importing Israeli 155mm Guns😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@paragchandra8219 atags by next year
Its time to change tactics, we need many small stealth high speed crafts which can fire Brahmos NG. big vessels are sitting duck in modern days
India need to build nuclear power destroyer with such high fire power capability then it will be more effective against china
SMART torpedo missiles were developed but don't seem to be on the naval vessels.... will give very little time for enemy subs ...
Bro its a ground based system
We have over 4 Large shipyards in India, why cant we distribute the Destroyer project between all these ship builders, so that we can induct all these ships within just 5 years...Completing 1 ship in a year is frighin slow, while china is churning out 10 ships per year...🤕🤕🤕🤕
Evey tender goes through bidding process and L1 bidder gets the contract. So it is not possible to distribute these tenders at will. Chinese way of doing things are totally different from how we operate here.
@@sunnybunny-z3kMaybe we should just copy the Chinese way of doing things then?
@@sunnybunny-z3k that's the reason why the chinese are so ahead of us
@@SS-fu6tu nahi ho sakta . China is an absolute authoritarian country and CCP controls everything from manufacturing to export. I wish we could follow the same but it's highly unlikely
@@sunnybunny-z3k . Yeahhh the L1 bidder crap should have been scraped 50 years ago...we are still living under a rock.
Is this not an old video ?
If then, so what ?
@@erenyaeger9407 then we should ask about the progress of 127mm naval gun
Faster delivery...Faster delivery....Faster delivery... That's all we want. We may not survive 10-12 years when it is suppose to come. War is on the corner weapons that kind of inducted within 1-3 years only matters
Don’t announce the plan still in drawing board

Your narration is like 7th standard reading book.🤣🤣
Slant missile launchers are so Soviet Union tech.

There's a hindi channel as well, this for those who don't understand hindi
Bro your videos are becoming too long
It’s not wise to talk about radar in details on platform such is this...
