  • We are building a horse barn! One thing I have a challenge with when building patios, decks, sheds or any other building is making the foundation square. I know there are methods like the 3 4 5 method (3-4-5 method) but I needed something more visual. This project helped me SO MUCH!

This little lesson taught me how to square my project and saved me lord knows how much time pounding out batter boards.
    Diagonal measurement perfect.

I just used this method. Like a half hour ago. Works great. I used skids that were square and had the same results. You are a master of your craft. Keep up the good advice and great video.

Great video, thanks! In theory, I know how to do this the "professional" way. But I do it so infrequently that it ends up being way harder than it should be. Having a clear visual layout really helps.

No way man, I'm about 10,000 miles away and trying to work out a fool proof way of getting a curb frame for a block paving patio square inside cockeyed boundaries. I thought I had come up with a genius idea. Looks like we are using the same idea. Genius' think a like or fools never differ (English saying) I'll let you decide which we are. Hope it all works out. All the best.

If budget allows for it I would use tailings (packed down and "graded" a bit to make the floor a bit higher than the ground) and cover that with either lime screenings or fine gravel (and rubber mats if you really want to get fancy)...otherwise it may get too damp and prone to getting mucky (and gaos can appear under your walls, which could be a hazzard for their legs) Then bed with shavings/whatever your bedding of choice is. Really it depends on how well tgat area drains when you get your Texas downpours

Something you may want to consider is your process would be harder to do on a longer building a framing square is good for a few feet but when your 100 foot long it will be off, need to look up batter boards

you attempted to try and simplify something but in all reality you created more steps and wasn't successful at simplifying anything...Its one thing to come up with something that you can relate to that does not mean you have simplified anything..In this case you didn't come close to simplifying nothing
