I just discovered the relationships between shapes, transitions, and the connections between song scales (and chords) and soloing. This lesson really pulled everything together and gave me a solid foundation for practicing. Thank you, Garry, for not hiding precious knowledge behind reinvented titles and advertisement of "magical guitar methods"! I would pay only for this 18 minutes lesson!

I am 61 years old and have been playing guitar off and on since my mid-twenties. I retired a couple of years ago and started playing a lot more. I've gotten better on my own. I guess a good analogy would be if I was traveling down a four-lane highway, I've moved from the slow senior citizen's lane on the far right and am firmly entrenched in the second lane with all the other traffic. I was happy. But then tonight, I stumbled upon this video, and within an hour, I think my guitar soloing skills have moved over to the third lane and are on the verge of busting into the high-occupancy fourth lane. Your theory and teaching skills are off the charts. I can't wait to see your other content. I know this will sound silly, but this video has changed playing for the rest of my life. Thanks!!

Sadly....it has taken me many years to understand the idea of the pentatonic scale...today THIS VIDEO has connected all my little islands of acquired info throughout 22 years of playing self taught. Off and on that is. But 3 straight years of actually trying to learn what exactly I was doing. 3 years of many paid courses, which were great and mostly finished from start to finish. BUT THIS VIDEO...this free video...was the video I have been searching for to connect everything I learned. So hard to find or search for what you need when you can't really explain it out loud. I shall enroll into your course. Thank you so much for this extremely useful video. Idk how to explain how happy I am right now!!! THANK YOU!

Gary, this lesson is amazing. I listened to it in my way to work and the way you explain the difference scales and how to find them is fantastic. Since I have been plucking at the pentatonic scale for the last couple of years this lesson has explained what I have found. Now I can practice with purpose and understanding! I am sharing your content with everyone I know that is messing with a guitar. Cheers!

So this to me is the best way to learn the music on RUclips. Too many artists spend time explaining what fret and string their fingers are on. If you just have these visual maps up... it makes it so much easier and you spend more time playing the licks.

I now understand and can see the difference from major and minor pentatonic and how to switch between the two while incorporating chords and entering in and out of the scales in different octaves. I now understand what a diatonic scale is and how to turn it into a pentatonic scale by taking out the b and f notes turning in a pentatonic scale only 5 notes. I can wait get home to practice. Thank you very much.

Man, thank you so much for your lessons. I grew up learning to play by ear wearing records out. No musical training. I bought books on scales and learned to jam in the pentatonic scales and from learning solos by ear and figuring out what notes fit with what chords, but I never learned the chemistry of it all that would take me where I wanted to go. You are opening that door for me. You have no idea what that means to me. I have been frustrated trying to express myself in my playing, but never had the road map to help me. You are just that for me.. I really really appreciate you.

Yourself and Desri Turner make most other guitar instructors look like they are flailing around in the dark and it's 2009. To play decent guitar is one thing, to play and teach is a different skill set. I learnt the 'Let it be' solo (My first proper solo) recently from your channel, I admit it's easy as solos go but I've already reconstructed parts of it, added extra phrases and more embellishments. Your tutoring is exceptional. You're the SRV of guitar tutors.

I've been playing guitar for about 18 years with a 7 year break in the middle. I am self taught so it's a slow journey. The last 3 years I've been trying to utilize RUclips to learn. I have found many good channels for learning but this one is by far the most effective for me. I know not everyone can learn things the same way the next person does. I'm not sure what it is with POWs methods but I find i retain the information a whole lot better than I do with any other channel I've been watching. I haven't played my guitar 20 years ago and I've always memorized all the scales, modes, and chords. I thought: it's very complicated, I don't know the logic of guitar neck.
Simply: You are the best, amazing teacher.
    THANKS A LOT

This is really, really good. Learning scales really threw me off way back in the day but now it's starting to make sense. I'm very excited to jam and know what I'm doing now haha
