each time she changes characters, she changes her whole posture and behavior. it's like she changes all together and becomes a new person. she's great!
I love how when she's portraying a different race, she's not completely stereotypical. She's actually surprisingly good at portraying different cultures.
She's amazing. When you look at her doing her characters you literally can picture them individually. She becomes the vessel and we get to see them come to life. Wow. Love it!
There are a lot of comedians who's jokes are based around racial stereotypes, but I am not sure how Sarah Jones' performance could be construed as racist. She does not even touch on any stereotypes associated with each race. She is touching on the cultural and racial melting pot that is New York City. I think this is genius.
She has thought each of these people out very well! From the shaking hands of the Jewish Grandmother, to the constant re-adjusting with the cloth of the Indian Woman (what is that called?), she has put a lot of care in thinking these people out, who they are, what they do and represent... and it shows in their speeches, it's wonderful!
The costumes (for onstage switches) are creative and simple. The accents are perfect. I don't know how she pulled it off, but she is awesome at it! Very interesting video.
Too wonderful!! LOL from the French teacher to Chinese parents, unbelievable, few people can copy Chinese English accent so well, like she just can speak Chinese! I LOVE HER!
OMG I was born in the U.S.; my parents are Chinese, and the Chinese lady KILLED me!! Hahahaha... TOO GOOD. So much talent, W O W. Aaaamazing blown away.
Simply brilliant. Not only does this video show she's an amazing actress it also sheds light on how we're all a lot more alike than we realize. Just brilliant. :)
I am disappointed that colour is even mentioned in a discussion feed about this amazing woman - colour is irrelevant! How have we not grown to see that yet?! Sarah Jones really did deserve that standing ovation
saw her a few years ago in NY on Broadway, where she did a one-woman stand up show being many many different characters, jewish, pakistani, jordanian, haitan, mexican, etc and through stories presented each of their stories of circumstance, culture, racial and ethnic judgment experiences, etc and it was great - have not heard of her having any performances since then
Wow... When she started to speak this Denglisch (German + Englisch) she simply nailed it! And I can confirm what she said about the German teacher. :P As if she would've lived in Germany for her whole life. x]
Now, that's what real genius looks like. A person who uses her wonderful gift of humor, language and culture to bring all of us together in love and acceptance. Thank you Sarah. You make all of us proud!
Thomas h cullen Well thank you. Not too hard to see that you are most certainly a good person. Humanity still has a chance thanks to people like you. Random kindness is a wonderful thing.
J3TPILOT1991 And that was refreshing to read, J3T.. That's the cliché, isn't it - why just say this to that person, or that to this person? You hit the nail right on the head. People's lack of will to be random is exactly why the world is the way it is.. Copy me if you like, and do a bit of spamming on RUclips for yourself.
She said the French teacher was very French, but also filled with the "darkness". This woman has an incredible gift to communicate. I see her as the global Tyler Perry who will do a wonderful work for humanity, word wide. She is so gifted, & she's beautiful. WHAT! OMG'oodness!!! I predict that she will eventually be an international global advisor to some head of state on human affairs, & probably one of the most influential people in her generation. Great work!
Actually, I think that's the point of the Chinese character. She mentions that she did not have the same freedoms in China that she wishes her children to have. And she's obviously trying to accept her children's relationships, which are far removed from her dreams that were shaped by her own perceptions or tradition. She is a character who symbolizes hope and yet remains credible because she is struggling.
😂😂😂😂 What a delightful fully immersive experience. Earth Talk meets Ted Talk via the expansive imagination, compassionate inquiry and thorough observation genius of Sarah Jones. 🗽 Hello from across the Hudson in the mixed salad bowl of Montclair, New Jersey.
She is SO good!!!!LOL When she played the elderly Jewish lady, I found myself feeling bad(seriously), because she had the shakes, she was so convincing.
She is gifted in the diplomacy department too :) I watched her show in Mumbai some years ago, and it was just as good as this! She does address difficult topics, and seems to do it unimpeachably all the time. If I recall right, the Mumbai show was about post-9/11 America and the "anchor" character was a Pakistani man. It was funny, sweet and thought provoking. She is very careful to provoke thought but not anger. I love Sarah Jones!
I heard this in 2009 on NPR, not the exact Ted Talk but another one of her segments, and have looking for it for almost ten years. Didn't know her name, or that she did a Ted Talk. Crazy I finally found her I think
+Thomas h cullen you deserve a house for free. you are doing a nice thing versus being mean as so many are on here. its great of you to compliment others. you deserve those same courtisies and compliments. ty for being good.
+Holly Murr Merry Christmas Holly. Just understand that the uniformity of reality is why people don't tell one another that they deserve free housing. I finally decided to react against reality's uniformity. Do you agree with that - that what I've done is to react against reality's uniformity?
Bravo BRAVO! Standing ovation well deserved .... Thank You Sarah Jones and all the others. Amazing how ... without knowing at all, what you were doing, with these charming characters, you, by example made an amazing point ... an important point back in 2009 and here in 2018 ... an even more needed point. I'll have to see if your available these days ... I'd never heard of you till now and that is just unfortunate. Love & Peace to All
each time she changes characters, she changes her whole posture and behavior. it's like she changes all together and becomes a new person. she's great!
I am from the UK and she even had me fooled at the start of this video! This woman is an incredible actress!
Tasnia Choudhury I KNOW RIGHT!!
And I liked that accent
her arabic is like so goos u cant hardly notice an accent
As an English person myself, the second she switched to her natural accent my jaw dropped. Incredible woman!
تتحدثين اكثر من لغة جميل جدا
I love how when she's portraying a different race, she's not completely stereotypical. She's actually surprisingly good at portraying different cultures.
I know she's great.
Only just caught up with her after reading the article in the economist’s 1848 mag. Superb.
She is one women speaking the influences of many other cultures. Magnificent...
limeyamos I like all the characters - appreciate the differences in people & I love accents
the french accent was truly stunning so talented Sarah
Wonderful
She has thought each of these people out very well! From the shaking hands of the Jewish Grandmother, to the constant re-adjusting with the cloth of the Indian Woman (what is that called?), she has put a lot of care in thinking these people out, who they are, what they do and represent... and it shows in their speeches, it's wonderful!
Major Minor the fabric is called a dupatta
Major Minor ........👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
her attention to details is impeccable!
chuni
Dupatta. This must be the most useless item in all of clothing.
I forgot that she was not the people she was impersonating.
Geetha Somayajula - I agree. Same here
Makes some of us realize how a person's accent can shape our prejudices.
Natalie P. Yes!!! So true
Omg yes like I’m imagining how this “different people” look like already
WOW she is amazing! The cultural nuances that speak English and their accents is so spot on!
John Wayne Hi John.. You deserve a house, for free.
I LOVE HER!
Do you come from WHU?
廖凯恩 What's WHU...?
Nah, the Chinese accent was pretty weak, actually.
I'm in love with her. All eighteen of her. Just precious
It's eight not eighteen
These characters are so distinct, it's scary. Amazing talent!
The first character sounds EXACTLY like my Jewish grandmother from New York. It's creepy and really cool.
Needs more views. This lady is talented.
OMG I was born in the U.S.; my parents are Chinese, and the Chinese lady KILLED me!! Hahahaha... TOO GOOD. So much talent, W O W. Aaaamazing blown away.
Can't love her enough! Such a kind message in the speech, she is great!
Simply brilliant. Not only does this video show she's an amazing actress it also sheds light on how we're all a lot more alike than we realize. Just brilliant. :)
her indian accent is on point its not completely the stereotypical one most americans believe its a bit more realistic. Shes so good!
It's not Indian. The character was from Jordan.
11:43: Praveen Manvi...from India
She's absolutely brilliant. That was unbelievalble.
I am disappointed that colour is even mentioned in a discussion feed about this amazing woman - colour is irrelevant! How have we not grown to see that yet?! Sarah Jones really did deserve that standing ovation
ageavamailat 🤔 Sarah Jones mentioned her color/race in the video.
saw her a few years ago in NY on Broadway, where she did a one-woman stand up show being many many different characters, jewish, pakistani, jordanian, haitan, mexican, etc and through stories presented each of their stories of circumstance, culture, racial and ethnic judgment experiences, etc and it was great - have not heard of her having any performances since then
Bridge and Tunnel
The different hand movements she used for each character were so accurate. Absolutely incredible.
Wow... When she started to speak this Denglisch (German + Englisch) she simply nailed it!
And I can confirm what she said about the German teacher. :P
As if she would've lived in Germany for her whole life. x]
Celrador ALL German teachers are like that!
Listen to this without looking at the video, its like listening to different people
Now, that's what real genius looks like. A person who uses her wonderful gift of humor, language and culture to bring all of us together in love and acceptance. Thank you Sarah. You make all of us proud!
The accents are amazing! On point.
This video epitomizes why one should not judge a book by its cover. Well done.
My asian history teacher is chinese and she really nailed the accent.
Amazing how she nails the grammatical errors that the Chinese usually make and their favourite words. I'm amazed.
I'm Chinese and I can't even do a Chinese accent as well as she does, WHAAATTTT
@thesix107 Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Assuming you learned English as an adult, that doesn't make sense. The accent you have IS a Chinese accent. It would be impossible to do it better.
She's captured all the nuances impeccably, without being offensive but instead outstandingly accurate; an amazing performance!
she can even change the appearance of her face and hands to match the characters mad props
she is amazing... it is amazing that she can change her looks and acsent/voice to match different characters.
"But please, please ... please" Oh my God I am dying, this was perfect. Sorry, Berfect.
Jenna Al-Ansari 😂😂😂😂 berfect no u 😂😂😂😂
😂😂 Berfect!
Such an inspiration! Can't believe I'm just learning of this women. Love her!

Jennifer Antonelli-Bernardo iii

What a talent, and all her characters go straight to the heart! :)

J3TPILOT1991 Hi J3TPILOT1991.. You deserve a house, for free.
Thomas h cullen Haha that would be a dream, cheers mate
J3TPILOT1991 Your reply is proof of why it was worthwhile to say..
Thomas h cullen Well thank you. Not too hard to see that you are most certainly a good person. Humanity still has a chance thanks to people like you. Random kindness is a wonderful thing.

Fantastic! I would liked to have heard her take on a Scottish accent :-)
She said the French teacher was very French, but also filled with the "darkness". This woman has an incredible gift to communicate. I see her as the global Tyler Perry who will do a wonderful work for humanity, word wide. She is so gifted, & she's beautiful. WHAT! OMG'oodness!!! If she talked to me in Arabic or even in that accent I would believe she's truly arab! Lol she's amazing! And it's kinda scary...
her hand when she's the old white woman hahahaha
+londz1987 The first old lady was Jewish.

the Dominican accent was point on ! I was lmao when she started speaking faster
Standing ovation! ❤️❤️❤️
Wow! :O she's incredibly talented :O
I happily watched the whole 21 minutes unnoticed. I enjoyed her variety.
Sarah Jones is brilliant, reminiscent of Whoopi Goldberg's early work.
If I didnt know that she was joking, I would think that she was a multiple personality woman.
she probably went through a lot to make these characters seem real even if it meant she had to learn a different language
She got the Chinese accent spot on.
So uniquely spot on! Sarah Jones redefines the term AMAZING when it's applied to an actress/comedian. Wow!
The Chinese one was the only one that I thought she didn't get, but maybe it's because it's the one I'm most familiar with.
@@artugert It sounds like a British HK Cantonese accent spot on.
Amazing! Such character transformations at such speeds!! I love you.
you're freaking brilliant! So inspiring. thank you!
Sarah Jones, I've never seen you perform before, but you are just simply brilliant!
I heard this in 2009 on NPR, not the exact Ted Talk but another one of her segments, and have looking for it for almost ten years. Didn't know her name, or that she did a Ted Talk. Crazy I finally found her I think

LOL...I can totally understand what she said when she speak Chinglish...
This presentation proves that body language contributes so much into how we perceive someone.
she was getting a yogurt in the google cafe, isn't that adorable?
So contextual in combining her talent with her humorous delivery.
Great talent. Great talk.
Wow! What a find! Her Indian accent is spot on. Instant fan.
What an outstanding talent!!! If she was honestly nervous it played well into her characters! Very insightful performance!
Brianne S She's a master!
