The blade should definitely be bevel down, have a look at the illustrations on the side of the plane. With the bevel up the cutting angle is very steep and the chip breaker is not actually doing anything. I assume they just dropped the iron into the body since they expect the user to do the final setup.

To remove the blade, they tell you to not strike the plane in the center, you will crack it but on the corners

The big vertical kanji is "Kakuri Industries, Co."
    roughly, on the plate is:
Shyoushigen Shingashi (resource conservation, White oak heartwood)
"Traditionally, this part of the area was rarely used because it was not white. But the quality is not inferior, so this part is now used in order to make the best use of it."
Shingashi seems to be the name of this model planer

thats neat how the chip breaker doubles as the wedge. Pretty clever

It's an amazing planer very well designed and now that I have the blade the right way round (bevel down) it works even better.

Most Japanese planes are setup with the bevel down and the hollow side against the chip breaker. I see that this was shipped the opposite, bevel up but that presents a very steep face to the wood when planing. To go bevel down you will likely need to do a bit of fitting the blade to the wooden body. I have this same one on the way from Amazon just to try it out. Thanks for making your video

I have a 42mm and oh my I cannot get the blade out!! It’s wedged in extremely tight.

Hello @Creations By Will, in order to remove the blade you first need to remove the wedge (chip breaker), push back on it with your thumb while tapping the back of the planer with a hammer.

Definitely have the iron in wrong. Hollow up....they even work better without the chip breaker.

I had mine and it's better than an expensive plane. I don't why..maybe it the blade made by Japanese.

I've got a problem. I bought one of these on Amazon, but haven't been able to use it. I was able to knock out the chip-breaker using a light hammer, the way you did in the video, but the blade wouldn't come out. How can I apply a bit more force and get it out without damaging it?

exactly the same way, it might take a good few more taps with the hammer but it will eventually work.

On some planes the blade is very snug, all you can do is repeat the same process that was used to remove the chip breaker and eventually the blade will also slide out.

Instead of tapping the center of the back edge as he does, alternatively tap the sides of that edge.

Tap the back corners of the plane alternating between the sides

It's not setup properly.... How on earth can you make a video when the plane blade is upside down!? Not a very helpful "review" at all!

Hi smurfman691 you are absolutely correct the blade was upside down. I have been meaning to update the video and address my mistake. Hopefully the next "review" will be helpful.

If this were a joke it would be funny, but it's just painful to watch.
