  • In this #DIYable video, I will show you how to repair, restore, setup and tune a cheap #JapaneseKanna 六兵衛 鉋 wooden hand plane. How to sharpen your blade like a Pro? I will touch on that a bit. To fix the wide opening mouth issue, I used a hardwood floor plank and it worked flawlessly. I am not even a #Woodworking person, if I can do it, so can you!

Blade standing on waterstone means that it is flat

How did you order the good plane and from where? I bought a $120 plane and the blade was chipped and nicked after 1 pass on a clean maple tabletop.

How did the more expensive plane do??

You don't need to go to a ceramic stone to get shavings of this quality. If you just finish on 1000 or so diamond stone and directly go on to a green compound strop you would get equally good shavings on any planes. My experience with cheaper blades is that freehand sharpen with a convex grind makes them quite a bit more durable (Yes I realize you need training to do that). That said, amazing job with a 30 dollar item.

Claims to not be a "woodworking person." Has a bunch of sharpening stones & does the blade trick like it ain't no thing.

I did it myself. I used Woodglut woodworking plans for this.
