He went out there when nobody was watching. I see kids on balconies alone unsupervised all the time at work it’s not 29 floors up but still this is a habit. I’m wondering what the construction of the balcony was that he was able to slip thru. The state requires bars on windows above the 2nd floor if children under 10 reside in the home. WTH was up with the design of the balcony…she’s at fault but if the balcony was made properly for that high floor this may not have happened.

My son was 2but very smart an paid attention to everything. I locked my front door an asked him to go unlock it. He did and my husband was outside the door to get him in case he went out. So what we did was put a latch on door up higher told him to open door he did again an it didn't open he looked up. Yes he did. Went into dining room grabbed a kitchen table chair pulled it over as we were in awe. An stood on it. Unlatched the latch so we had to just about put it away up to the frame just about so he couldn't reach it. We moved to a down stairs garden level. The knowledge of what went on in that apartment is important so investigators can determine if there was abuse. 3 year olds don’t just suddenly fall from a balcony. Was there a table and chairs out there? Or perhaps an angry parent was on the balcony with him?

Reading headlines like this is enough to give me nightmares. I’m also a mother and it can be exhausting having to watch over my toddler. But your child’s safety must be your priority. Double check, triple check your surroundings. Put yourself in their shoes and try to anticipate what they might reach or do. I know nobody is perfect and they can be really fast. But many senseless deaths would have been avoided if parents/carers just apply basic common sense.
