      That's a very British thing to do, actually! Adding a knife & fork to something that doesn't need a knife & fork to. Especially if it's American.

      It cracks me up to see a Brit eat a rib with utensils.
      They tend to be rather reserved and non adventurous especially where food is concerned 😂
      Brits take on sloppy joes : I don't know if I'd like that.Its rather messy
      Yes ,yes it is.The best tasting foods are messy and eaten with your hands

    As usual, great choice in showcasing American food...American Soul Food that is! One thing though Gaynor, you gotta know that eating fried chicken with a knife and fork really puts us off as Americans because you and Daz lived here in America for a lot of years. Aidan was born here. He is actually an American citizen. That was me only tiny criticism...your New York trip has been a triumph...I've followed and enjoyed every video so far. Simply excellent!

    It's quite possible that something like a Habanero pepper or Scotch Bonnet pepper is used in their hot chicken sandwich sauce. Both of those peppers have a really nice fruity quality to the flavor.

    Normally when you make grits at home, you would put salt in the water. Some restaurants do not put salt in the grits. They allow the customer to add the salt. To me it does not taste the same because the salt is not cooked to the grits.

    I've never understood why people think these items are "soul food" or "southern food". It's just country folk food. Midwestern country folk eat the same thing and try to use every part of the animal. My mom had us out picking poke sallet every Spring, grew up with black eyed peas on the menu often, I can't stand okra (oak-rah)... you either like it or you don't, no half way with that. Ask any Hillbilly... this is their menu as well.

      Many people would say it isn’t Southern food, it’s Soul food. Soul food exists outside the South, you know, since African Americans migrated away from there.

    • @BTinSF
      @BTinSF 3 дня назад +1

      My conception is that "soul food" is things like chitterlings that southern white folks wouldn't have eaten in the "bad old days". Stuff like what Daz and family had--fried chicken, ribs, grits--would be just "southern food" since it was and is eaten by everybody in the South. But honestly, the line between "soul" and "southern" is very blurry.

    • @pacmanc8103
      @pacmanc8103 3 дня назад +1

      @@BTinSF Sorry, but what I saw them eat, with the exception of grits and fried okra, wasn’t “Southern”. Fried chicken? Nope. BBQ ribs? Not so much. Macaroni and cheese? A BBQ chicken sandwich? Corn? French fries? Really? IMO there are a lot of foods that some people lay claim to as being “Southern” that aren’t. I just watched another video where deviled eggs were claimed as “Southern” - come on.
