Old dude rant: Enjoyed every last note of it, men. Wait. Except one. Back in the day when Rikki first came out the sheet music used to say "guitar tacet" for that last bar before the chorus. I was playing mostly bass at the time, so it made no difference to me, but many a guitarist took it right spiteful that they were being ordered not to play anything there, and they decided to play something. Some tried to nail the line and succeeded; some went mad trying to play a "damn tacet"; some strummed a B7 chord; some played a Jimi Hendrix B7#9, but very few grabbed that G# (6th note). It was near enough, but didn't quite sit right. As for Mu chord voicings in Steely Dan songs, "What's a Mu? Just play Major 7th chord, mate". A couple of years later I got to play in what was probably Australia's first Steely Dan covers band. The charts, for horns and all, were done by a brilliant guitarist, whose name I have shamefully forgotten. It sounded wonderful. The guitarist taceted, and all was well with the world (except that a fight broke out in the audience every time we played "Don't Take Me Alive"). But anyhow, here's the thing, the one note. Barry, Barry, Baz. Mate, great singing, but you didn't tacet. You just had to strum, didn't you? It was either B7 or the Jimi thing, but there was no G#. Sad. No, no, don't thank me. I'm glad we had this little chat.
Love the 'Old dude rant' and the dry lick, however, I feel very embarrassed about playing through the 'tacet', my excuse is I love playing a B7#9 so much I can't help myself, I'll try to do better when the 'Jimi thing' appears in the future. loved our little chat, cheers !

Covering Steely Dan is always tricky because listeners will compare to the original....a freak duo with the best USA /overseas players available. Remembering also that SD stopped playing live as they disliked leaving New York.... This is a superb cover, it's really smooth and cool. (As a drummer I appreciate it a lot; Fagan and Becker were notoriously ruthless in despatching drummers. They sought restraint with occasional explosions.)
