    Nice video.. I'm about to buy a 2021 Honda Passport with this transmission. I have always done my own wrenching (unless its for warranty work). I note the Honda has this ridiculously complicated procedure for setting the fluid level. Is there any reason simply draining out what you can into a graduated cylinder and then putting exactly the same quantity of fluid (at the same temperature) back in at around 40 to 50k miles? I mean the dealer doesn't need to know right?..:)

    I'm thinking of purchasing a Jeep Renegade, and found myself having to choose between the 6 speed manual and the 9 speed auto, I'd already heard the auto had issues, but if this is the level of labour just to change the fluid and filter, there's no way I'm touching the auto. Shame though, because the Trailhawk only comes in auto. So that version is out.

      I have a 2015 trailhawk. Paid off this month thank god but if you haven’t bought anything already don’t buy this car. Check out a two door wrangler instead. It might be a bit easier to maintain yourself for most stuff and fluids and the wrangler two door is small like the renegade. That’s what I probably should have gotten instead. Just bought a 2021 cherokee with this 9 speed zf trans. In a nut shell, do you recommend i do a fluid drain and fill throughout the life of the car? Or are there just too many questionable symptoms that could arise from doing this? This is the wife's car, i cant be the reason why it breaks lol.

    • @OnlineMechanicTips
      @OnlineMechanicTips  3 года назад +2

      Hello my friend. The problem with doing this is you stand a chance of voiding your warranty. These transmissions are considered filled for life. Meaning there is no change interval basically until warranty expire (100K). So im not sure it would be wise to do that. Besides, if you have any trans problem, just take to the dealer to get fixed. It wwould likely be flash updates anyway. Thanks for watching, please thumbs up the video and subscribe to the channel, thanks

      Thats why I've always said. The term/word flush is misleading. At best you only draining/pulling all the old fluid out and going back in with new fluid..that my friend, is not a flush. And you not going to drain/pull debri out of a transmission doing that.

      I’m currently split between buying an Acura TLX with this 9-speed or buying a 2013 Acura TL sh-awd with the bullet proof 6spd auto. I’m sorry this video was incredibly informative and scary bcuz I believe in servicing the transmission until it kicks the bucket. If this transmission was designed this way while most Americans drive their vehicles until the wheels fall off. So from the perspective Of most people a transmission that isn’t designed to last is a bad design. For others it’s engineering prowess makes up for its opec record or reliability. I’m thankful for the vid but let’s call a spade and damn spade. Yes the transmission has 9 gears and all this efficiency, most people believe if it’s built to break or have a limited life, THATS A BAD DESIGN from a consumers perspective whose going to spend their hard earned money fixing this crap. Lovely vid and love the comments

      In there defense, there was no other place to put it because of the design. A filter has to be in line fluid route to the pump..I guess the end result was with this design, you get 9 speeds and lowered emission..

    • @JBM425
      @JBM425 3 года назад

      It could always be worse. You could have a Nissan with a CVT (and ironically, the new 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is ditching the CVT in favor of the ZF 9-speed). Nissan rates the Pathfinder with a CVT for towing up to 6,000 pounds, but given it's poor reputation, I wouldn't trust it over the long haul.
