I always enjoy your videos. There is so much nuance to detailing a car. Keep up the great work!
When using the big Ez brush could be a good idea to start from 11 or 1 o clock on the face of the wheel so any wheel soap and the citrus on it can flow down the barrel when you get to the bottom. Just a thing I learnt from AmmoNYC years ago when he would do more enthusiast videos
I do the same 👍🏻
Jon I would use Yum Wheel Foam on them wheel very safe and great lubricants are great and will not cause any damage to the wheel
If I have any reservations about retaining paint protectant effectiveness or finishes, I swap out my BH for AutoGlym Polar. Good value for money, decent foam, lubrication and cleaning.
I have never really understood why two buckets or at least washing the brushes is not done. We spend so much time looking after the paint and yet less care with our wheels. I rinse my brushes every time i finish a wheel otherwise the dirt goes back into the bucket.
Agreed.
No thats ridiculous. The barrel of the wheel is a hostile place it spends all day having hot sintered brake dust fired at it with high speed. No matter how clean your brush is the barrel has brake dust all over it which you abrade off the surface with a brush. All this 2 buckets and rinsing the brush out before it makes contact is just fantasy. In the UK you are lucky if you can get tyres swapped over without your alloys getting smashed. A lot of this detailing stuff is just Theoretical fantasy I don't listen to it. The biggest issue is not cleaning them properly, followed by incorrect chemical choice. Most of the rest is just armchair Theoretical forum bs.
@@ForensicDetailing Got to say John your response came across a bit aggressive. I was simply pointing out that a dirty brush can only compound an already dirty wheel, anyway it's healthy to have a discussion.
@@greymark420 To me it only seems theoretical to rinse off your wheel brushes as you use them. Rather than keep spreading around excessive amounts of dirt. The logic that wheels get beaten up anyways and you shouldn't obsess over them basically means you shouldn't bother coating them, yet Jon has explored wheel costings many times in the past...It's not necessarily bs to take extra care cleaning anympart of your car. It's like saying your paint is going to get swirled overtime no matter the wash method so theirs no point doing a prewash yet we all do it to reduce possible damage.
@@KiranPatel-fk1pg Agreed.👍
I need a barrel brush that can fit between brake disk and wheel. Thank you!
Hey John
What did you use to dress the tyres?
I know with Michelins they can be very temperamental as to what dressing will work.
I used gyeon tyre express mate worked great just bruish on to a wet clean tyre.
Hi John, thanks for the video. Would you reccomend spraying some atom mac pre or post wheel wash? Cheers.
not on these CCB mate. post wash with steels though
@@ForensicDetailing perfect thanks mate
Hi Jon, been following you for a while, bit off-topic here. I'm now parking my car literally next door to the sea at the port I work in, so how often should I wax the car? Would you recommend any particular wax, and how often should I apply the wax?
Sure m8 if u favour a paste wax. Double speed is good performance for low cost
Once every 3 months
@@ForensicDetailing thanks Jon, might get some Lanogaurd on the underside
I posted a question a couple a months ago about a bmw i bought that had allot of fault’s and a bad paintjob from a dealership. Im happy to announce that after a bitter fight, my lawyer got through the seller and they have finaly decided to take the car back and pay me back. So now i have to wait for them to arrange transport. Im looking forward to be done with this nightmare.
Gratz m8
Unrelated to the wheel cleaning, but does anyone have any recommendations for a snow foam that is foamy with decent cleaning power but doesnt strip wax off the car? Ive clay barred, polished, sealed, waxed etc my car to the point where its extremely slick but i swear it feels like the protection is gone after 1 or 2 washes. My snow foam seems to do a decent job at eating through the dirt but maybe its also taking away the protective properties of Bilt Hamber Double Speed Wax (which I've never had an issue with before)
so if your really really really worried about this then something like autoglym polar blast is a good shout.
Autobrite magifoam is safe as well that doesn't strip wax or sealed paint
Just to confirm... is SurfexHD a safe alternative on these satin finished Porsche wheels? What ratio would you recommend if so? (Awaiting response nervously...lol)
yes m8
Is bilt hamber auto wheel no good then just used it on my wheels
Interested to see the response on this as I use built gamber auto wheels on my cars.
In this case the car had ceramic brakes which doesn't need fallout remover (which BH auto wheels is) as it has no iron fallout. I'm guessing that's why it wasn't used here - although someone correct me if that's not true
yer dont use fallout remover on CCB. but Im also a bit cautious with FR on bare satin generally.
Do you ever do a pre wash on wheels or always contact immediately?
Why would you not pre wash them? Always pre wash anything you are going to contact wash.
yer so in summer you can prewash the wheels only blast them out and then clean each wheel. then prewash the car. if you just prewash everything and rinse or try and do the wheels while the prewash is on, there isnt enough time in the summer. so thats kind what I do. if your really like turbo detailing with massive time preesure jsut blast the wheels with pressure washer and contact clean them fast. then prewash. but factor in if you are also doing engine bay.
I have always washed the face of the wheel 1st, if you do the barrel 1st aren't you dragging all the dirt onto the face of the wheel then rubbing it in?
? if the barrel is dirty you will be dragging it out onto the face regardless if the face is dirty or not? dunno. Im not sure this matters to much either way. face first could be cool if that makes more sense to you.
@@ForensicDetailing Yes you would bring the dirt from the barrel onto the face but then you wouldn't be making contact with it
If you use the same water for all the wheels I see little point in worrying about the order of barrel or face washing. Biggest thing for me is actually getting the wheel clean behind spokes, brakes etc. A decent pre-wash should get 75% of the dirt off anyway!
For similar wheels I hung up my EZ brushes and got wheel Woolies at £££. Looks like I could have stuck with the EZ 😢
Does citrus remove brake dust from those wheels?
Citrus doesn't exist. It's an all purpose cleaner / APC.
Regular maintenance is key and removes most of the dust.
Few times a year a fallout remover.
yes its citrus (d-limonene) and surfactant.
Those are carbon ceramic rotors so no ‘brake dust’. Is that cleaner safe for the rotors?
👍👍😊
👍
Thing is as that dries, the brake disc wil go rusty
Surely a sealant on top to lock it in?
