Thanks for this i remember this episode it was crazy what this guy wanted muscle cars to do; he wanted to have them almost fly like fighter jets.He even hooked rocket engine motors on the rear end of his car to try to outrun the cops but they caught him anyway
One lot....one 6 AM visit. 1981 or 82. .,. Driving à 73 Challenger Rallye, (mint) , with a "Chip's" star magnet on the driver's door ...Maybe a dozen cars, nice eàrly Vette inside. Front row, of six cars..,..Red Dodge Daytona, Bench, 440, automàtic, for 6K, Yellow 70, 6 pack 440 Cuda, for 3500,. Side row, of four cars, a Plum Cràzy T/A 70 Challenger, for 7200. Out back, alone, a 71, ....429 Cougar GT, ram air, 4 speed......BLACK, for under 4k. I bought a 69 Trans Am, RA lll, 4 speed, that morning. On3, Calif. Owner, all original, for $3500. I went back to thàt lot every weekend, for 2 years. Bought too many to list. 2 - 3 years later, ...they were worth STUPID money.
My friend bought a very nice condition '69 Mustang with a 428/4-speed in the L.A. area for $4k in the later 80s. I remember him racing a SHO Taurus for two stop lights, ironically on Reseda Blvd. (where this was filmed) but a few miles further south. The guy turned right on the third light with his tail between his legs and wouldn't look over at us, LOL.
Grew up at Chatworth/Tampa but long gone. My parents still live in the same house near that intersection they bought in 1979 when we moved from Chicago. Neat to see the places where the earlier CHiPs episodes were filmed before we moved to the L.A. area, such as Skatercross (the skateboard episode from 1978 before we moved) and the scenes from the BB gun episode at the sporting goods store at Devonshire and Reseda. Heck, a scene from the stolen mayor's limo episode was filmed right at Chatsworth and Tampa in probably 1981 or 1982. I kept hearing an alarm going off in the distance, and my mom came home and said that we need to walk down to the intersection. Sure enough, hundreds of people spectating and a bunch of filming equipment. The stunt that started before the opening credits was pretty extreme considering they had traffic stopped and the car that made a sharp left could have easily have plowed into several cars stuck at the intersection thanks to the behind the scenes cops holding up traffic, LOL. I am guessing the stuntman wasn't on too much cocaine...
Thankfully Don took the ugly Camaro instead of the original Phantasm Cuda sitting behind it! Chasing around the Tall Man in anything other than a Mopar would not have been the same!
I would buy both of them in this video in a heartbeat! The red one looks like my 1st car. They are all gone on the east coast .been looking for a descent 72 GT Hatchback for years and can't find a descent one

70s pro stock scoop reversed-ofton covering a high rise intake set up but sometimes just for looks-comon on 70s street machines but normally scoop other way around.
Sadly, one of the last times (if not last time) it was seen on film. The accepted story is that it was purchased after the owner and the buyer met at Devonshire and Reseda (It is a Shell station now) gas station, and that was the last it was seen. I used to live near Chatsworth and Tampa (my parents still do) which is maybe 2 miles from that gas station, where they filmed a CHiPs scene (the episode where the mayor's limo was stolen), and in fact the shopping center behind the gas station is where they filmed another CHiPs scene (the BB gun episode that @Kristian Conspiracy has covered). So, combined with this scene, I truly believe CHiPs has something to do with the car's disappearance!
What a cool car lot!-all them cool 70s street machines.
Love seeing all the old cars in this video.
they sure dont make them like this way anymore

TR7 soft top. I used to own one but never had the roof down - good old British weather.
The man in the bank also played “Felipe” on Three’s Company as Jacks helper in the restaurant. I like all the muscle cars.
North Valley gets a lotta sunshine in old ChiPs episodes!

Its amazing how much is still the same in this one. Another Awesome video.I Always look forward to them. One day ill make it to the west coast
The last shot was from Saticoy St. at the corner of Winnetka Ave., very cool.
Crazy how car lots never leave their locations. Even where I live car lots have been the same for over 50 plus years
isnt this the truth it is really strange
Car lots and bars.
I checked and $5199 in 1981 would be a little less than $16,000 in 2020.
The guy just drove off without paying for the car. I didn’t see that coming!
Save Kristian! 👍👍👍👍👍

Many of them ended up with V8 engine swaps and were quite fast. But, yes, their engines were known to be troublesome.
They were less than that new.
