As a high school teacher on my feet for 8 hours, I've begun to wear my running shoes regardless of the attire north of my ankles! Even on "dressy days" of slacks and a tie, I'm prone to put on a clean pair of running shoes to make standing all day a better deal. Like you, I'm not too concerned with how I look!
QD: every Sunday I take a break from running, but take a nice 2-2.5 hour walk. It does wonders for how I feel each Monday and it’s a great time to take a break and just think. I find the Pegasus 39 is the best for it out of the shoes in my rotation right now
Dont forget to get out and run today, everyone
I can’t :( I have pickleball tonight :)
QD: I definitely have a rotation of how I use my running shoes. Like after they have lost their "soul," as a running shoes or the midsole gives out, I typically transition them to work shoes, and when they become "too funky" for work they become gardening/putzing around shoes. Like right now I'm running in Novablast 3's, I wear my Novablast 2's to work, and I use my original evoride 1's for yard duty.
Just did my first progression run. Thanks to the person who commented on another video that suggested doing even 15-30s faster. I did 30s faster every 1k for 5k. I felt like shifting through the gears. It was fun!
I also try to set a PR each year usually the month of my birthday. Been successful for the last 5yrs! thanks Seth for the motivation
QD: Once I've run a shoe through its paces it become either a daily walking shoe or a yardwork shoe. I have 1 pair of Peg 37s, the Betrue Pride colorway that fits pretty well with any outfit, ans it's a sneaky way to get some expression in as well.
QoD: I wear my shoes for work. Working in PT, running shoes tend to be the most comfortable to be on my feet most of the day. I will lift weights in them unless it’s a leg workout. I don’t like sinking and instability of some midsole foams.
Oh... I wonder what those shoes went through... should be out there in the long run... :( (Invincible 2 is good for recovery and MUCH more durable ;) )
@@marathonranati both invincibles ripped it fell part at 100miles or under, 3 different pairs I had to send back to Nike.
I have worn my “super” shoes at work some work surprisingly well for standing and walking around. But usually just run them 😉
QD: I use *retired* running shoes as beater/errand shoes. I don't like wearing running shoes in my rotation for walks or other activities as this might make the outsoles wear weirdly. Once I retire them in Strava, I'll use them as everyday shows if they aren't too far gone
Great video, Seth, as always. Unfortunately, these shoes never worked for me. My legs felt very fatigued after my run and it made me feel slower than usual. Durability is horrible, with only 9 miles out of the box, the outsole heels look like they were put through a shredder. Not something you want to see after paying $250 for these shoes.
Even after such a long break from running, your still able to run 4’11/K …like how😮
That long run looked very nice!
I usually retire running shoes to use for walking, errands, chores, etc. The exception for me is traveling or days I will really walk around a lot, I will put on a pair of cushioned running shoes for that extra support, loving my Gel Nimbus 25 for that right now.
QD : my old retired shoes ( depending on colour that is 😂) I use for everyday or walking shoes, or if I have a duff buy ie the Boston 10 which got retired after 3 runs, they are now my everyday shoe, my old Nike Vermeros 15 I use for long walks, comfort is still there. 👍🏻
: Everything. Commuting, to work, I know you`re not supposed to, I just don`t care. Always comfy in my running shoes, and always more productive when I know I`m prepared to break out into a run at any moment!
that workout is serious! Lets go SETH!!
QD: well my work shoes are a pair of black Brooks Ghosts, but those are just for work and casual use. After my running shoes wear out, they basically become lawn mowing and garden shoes. I have two pairs of old racing flats sitting next to the front door for yard work.
Some shoes I only run in. Some are awesome for walking, and so I'll do a little walking in them before "retirement", and then make them full time walking shoes when they're not so great for running anymore 👍🏻
I’ve retired my vivobarefoot primis trail 2 shoes for walks in the woods and holiday treks in the mountains as you can feel every rock and root. Good proprioception! However, as the mud dries out i need some more cushioning so have opted for hoka Speedgoat 5’s, which at first felt a bit clunky. I also have a grey/black pair which i use to play cricket in green and pleasant England. Really light and grippy on manicured grass!
QoD:
When the shoes have lower stack height and/or are stability shoes, I use them for gym. When the shoes are easy day shoes, they become walking shoes after their life cycle. When they are racing shoes, they become used for training when they no longer have enough pop and eventually gets displayed when there's really no give back anymore
I use my older daily trainers (peg 38's) for playing pedal. I run to the court, play pedal with friends, try very hard not to drink a beer😊 afterwards, then run home.
I had to go a 1/2 size down as well, but so far I only ran in them once and love them
Thanks Seth. Several reviewers on running warehouse commented on the VF3’s terrible durability. Your thoughts ?
running only! Then retirement. Only exception is if I stop running in a shoe before it is worn out. Example, I decided my OG Evoride was a bit too firm, so it has become my Gym shoe because of the rocker and excellent rubber pattern on the outsole.
QD: dog walking comes the priority! But hiking/woods walking as well
I have enough of a sneaker collection out side of my running shoes to need them for much more
When I retire a pair of shoes from running but they still have some life in them, they become my camping shoes!
That’s a heck of a run with no hydration/nutrition vest unless you stashed some on your route. Not recommended to go without for a 23 miler at any exertion.
QD: I use my retired running shoes for tennis, like you mentioned! Probably not the best for lateral movement, but I'm just rallying
So funny I do the same with old shoes. Transfer to around the house then to grass mowing etc. my favorite house shoe is the Nike Turbo. My favorite grass mowing shoe is the Hoka Speedgoat from 2017. Ha. I wear my shoes till they implode.
Hey Seth do you take supplements these days. Also if here is some DGR nutritionist is it ok if i take supplements(Mg, Omega, Zinc, MSM..) every day all year long. Running 10km every day at age 40 ?
From my POV as 38-year old runner with similar volume, supplements give psych boost, but it`s temporary. I might take some Mg & carbs in weeks leading up to race, but I`ve learned that over the long run (planning on running for decades to come), I feel much stronger without supplements (Simply reduces the dependencies for running).
@@Run4un Yea but i started noticing that when i incorporate supplements my legs recover faster and overall have more energy
@@filiptomas3658 Go for it! It`s almost all water-soluble so no harm in taking "reasonable" amount. I`ll probably notice the same benefits as I age.
I take all those except for MSM.
QD: i use my nb 1080v12 to go on a trip to japan. Walking all day long feels so energetic and soft with that shoe. I love it!
I have sent to recycle some of my old pairs if still in good condition but others more beaten I will dismiss them. Though I have a pair of GT2000 v6 that started running few years back (rougly 250kms with them) as they are not into my current rotation I use them for some walks and outing during weekends. They still great
Congratulations
2:52 we are receiving a clear transmission, reading you 5 by 5 😎.
0:33 they look tight... were they tight? Do you think I should run in "carbon" shoes a "little" loose? (I am wearing the saucony endorphin elite) and my toes are a "a little more than a thumb" away from the tip... is that ok? Or should I wear "Thick socks?" Thank you! (My pb rests in your hands!)
I would not play tennis with anything but real tennis shoes, much safer imho. Aside from that, I like to keep my running shoes for running so they stay clean and in "great condition". Only those I don't like (as much) for running end up being used for walking/everyday .. mostly older shoes made of EVA foam.
I use my old escalantes as my daily walking around / gym shoes and the rest of my retired shoes go on the wall for decoration purposes
Mile 7 and your sweating?!!! 😂 I don’t get to the first mile before it starts! Heck I get sweatsicles hanging off my sunglasses at 9°F in January!
If those people in the gym only knew that the “odd-looking” guy is a 2-time Pikes Peak Marathon champ 💪🏻🏃🏻♂️👊🏼
Definitely gardening after they're done as trainers.
Seth do you take zero nutrition on your 23 mile runs ?
Are those the smith wildcat sunglasses?
Two things I can always count on from Seth. #1: To never use a travel mug when necessary. #2: To never turn his headlamp off.
Do you take any gels during such long runs?
Question: I have been running for 2 years and have finish couple for HM. What the better to run a good run and improve ourself..by pace or by heart rate ? and also I will run my first Full Marathon this year.
Heart rate definitely.
Keep turning the door knob brother
I usually keep a couple of my ‘worn’ out trail shoes to put sheet metal screws in the bottom for winter running; but my road shoes I donate to homeless shelters so they get a renewed life for someone else; cause other than running I don’t really have a life to use them for other activities
Forget all these shoes, can we get this man a new pair of shorts! (without the speedholes)
QD: I only use my running shoes for running until I retire them. Then I wear them until they are returned to nature as dust. Ok maybe not that long but pretty much.
I use my running shoes for about anything possible. I've used them to swim with
Have you Scor…. (Just been listening.. you haven’t yet reviewed 😂)
What are the other road marathon shoes for you that are in the “running?”
QD: Put the bins out on a Wednesday 😂
I use my running shoes for work because they just look good with scrubs. Also they add a little boost to my height. Short kings know what’s up 😂
QD: Dog walks, hiking, and weightlifting at the gym!
QD: When I no longer run in a shoe , it becomes my shoe for coaching gymnastics. Right now, I'm using them on my good leg while I hobble around on cruthches😂
QD: Walking, daily shoe to work, to play at the garden with kids etc.
QD Walking and some i give to my dad. He use them for gardening.
9:09 I'm a little under 10 years older than you, and I'm still out there doing it.
QD: Whenever I retire a pair of running shoes, they become my lawn-mowing shoes. I have only one pair of regular shoes, everything else is for running.
Thanks for what you do Seth - I really enjoy your videos.
QD: Im a physician on my feet all day so I use my retired pairs at work in the clinic!
Work and walking around.
Why you drive so much so far to run on concrete?
👍
QD: for me they become all-purpose work/getting dirty shoes.
Take out the trash. Run on
Bla bla bla and nothing about shoe!
QD: Not much other than walking with the family. I usually wait for shoes to go on clearance and so I end up getting some pretty atrocious looking colorways that are hard to wear anywhere other than on the run
