I love how you don't try to make everything perfect for youtube. Too many on RUclips clean the kitchen to perfection and set the lighting before making a highly edited video.
At the moment, I'm still recovering from an injury, as has been the case a number of times since starting my running journey. I've had advice to stop running, or even cross train at times, but instead have still trained with the mindset that the body will adapt, and once whatever injury I have recovers, that the body overall will be stronger for it. I'm not a fast runner, and the lastest injury has cost me 10% of my speed, but last year I had PB's for various distance after recovering from a different injury. This has not gone unnoticed by others where they cannot understand how I get injuries, that for them would stop them training, yet I always come back stronger. The Lastest Injury however has forced me to increase my bike/cycling load from my running, and my running endurance is currently less. I don't see injuries as a reason to stop, but to adapt and build, work around the issue and come back stronger. I beleive this is true of anything important in life. Good content. Thanks
QD: I tell myself that pain is my friend. When I want to quit I remind myself that if I’ve done it before I can do it again. These two thoughts got me through the Chicago Marathon this year. A lot of life has happened the last year and a half and my fitness isn’t where I want it to be, but I embraced the pain and finished the race. To me running is way more mental than it is physical.
QOD: I try to blank out completely and think of nothing and let the body work….sometimes it pays off and sometimes it doesn’t, but it’s always better than dwelling in negative self thoughts during a hard effort.
Congrats Seth :) For me, when things get hard with competitors I focus on my best own effort and if they are friends I repeat to myself to be happy for them if they finish ahead because they are my friends. Last June I crossed the finish line before 2 friends who were ahead while I was just repeating to focus on my own effort/race and be happy for them, I guess it was just a good day for me.
One mental mindset that I tell myself is "We are working while they sleep,"... you can think of it as a positive thing if you like.... I think it can mean that there are people who have goals, but they don't want to put in the work, so they rather sleep or sit on the couch.
QD: My mental mindset up to a few months ago was to push myself to my limits no matter what. I ended up with triple stress fractures (both legs and hip); only stopped when it wasn’t physically possible to move the leg anymore. It was a huge mistake, many lessons learned and my mental mindset will have to change from now on. Not sure how to change it though.
This is very interesting. When I hiked Yale a couple years ago, Cam and then his girlfriend flew by me like I was standing still. It was the week before the PPA. Don't know if that was his FKT, but gosh was he flying. Great job as always Seth!
Awesome video Seth, congrats on another FKT QOD last year when I was in my 50s I would just try to do my best, get A podium finish in my age group & made some pb goals, that’s what motivates me, not to worried about competing against individuals, I like to repeat one of Seth’s sayings, fitness doesn’t lie, it’s easier to compete against others when ya know you’ve done your best in your training, put the work in & hope for the best on race day 😀👍🥳🏃🏽♂️🎉🌴👍✅
QD: I like to remind myself that the next day, I’ll be thinking back on the race. Do I want to be proud of the effort, or disappointed that I gave up/gave in? Make your future self proud of you.
it comes down to prayers and mantras for me, just a few simple words i can repeat to myself: "Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on me a sinner" "just keep going" "all my demons" (i know, this one is crazy[worked for the vo2max test lol]), etc. things like that.
QD: my mental mindset is me vs me pushing myself through adversity by realizing what I could become. You miss 100 percent of the shots (efforts) you don’t take.
everytime ive ran into threshold zone this year, you know when you start feeling someone is holding you underwater, the thought of why am i putting myself thru this comes up. dont know what it is, when i get over 170hr im like i dont wanna go no harder, funs gone. never used to be like this, maybe is just dont wanna suffer no more.
Your guess is as good as mine : ) Real answer: experience on the mountain and for the mountain FKTs there is a little grace given on where to go, usually 20-30 feet with respect to the GPS track (GPX). Good question Amber!
@SethJamesDeMoor It's funny, I was thinking about this question this past weekend, as I was hiking in the woods. The leaves had fallen, covering the trail. I lost it once or twice, but found it pretty quickly. Made me chuckle, and said out loud to myself, "Gee Amber, how do you know where to go??" 🤣 Definitely experience, and realized I knew how you do it on the mountain 🙌🏻
Haven't watched Seth's videos in a while. Looks like he's slowed down and have been busy with life Quite puzzled when I found a sub Reddit with some terrible comments about Seth. What happened? Seemed petty to me and unfair. Did Seth scam people or what? I'm not into internet bickering and mud slinging against creators unless they're total dbags (see: Mr Beast). Seth seems genuine to me 🤷♂️

Suffer now or suffer later. That’s my mantra and it always works in tough stretches.

I always know… the first mile is the toughest. Once warmed up I can feel the power 🎉.
Gotta get in the mountains tomorrow before the snow hits. That will make 14er #10 for me. Love the videos Seth!
Also my self talk is always this hurts, good you are getting better right here. This is where I get better and this is where I want to be.

💯 positiv mindset ✌️🏃♂️🙏
How in the world do you know where to go, on the way up when it just looks like rocks everywhere??

man.. I love those little chilled carrot cakes!
So glad I'm not the only one! I could eat them every single day.
Anyone know where to get this hat??
Congrants on another FKT Seth.
QD: trying to visualize different animals runnnig next to me and push me forward...
That's awesome!
is that that Pee-wee Herman music!? 😁
Two things come to mind when I'm so ready to give up 1. Goggins' quote that I'm only 40% done and have 60% in reserve. 2. Go one more.
