Both cars have the same M54B30 "330i" engine: a 2001 BMW E46 330Ci and a 1994 E36. Can the E46 keep up with the E36? Spoiler: it can't!
E46 info:
Car: 2001 BMW E46 330Ci M-Sport
Suspension: Eibach Sportline springs + stock shocks
Tires: Kumho Ecsta PS71
Wheels: BBS CH 18 inch
Shifter: Schmiedmann adjustable short shifter
Everything else on the car is stock
E36 info:
Car: 1994 BMW E36 318is (M54B30 swap)
Suspension: BC Racing BR-RH Coilovers
Exhaust: Schmiedmann headers + E36 M3 Supersprint Racing exhaust

Cool video, in all honesty I think this mainly comes down to how hard you’re pushing the car. The guy in front of you looks like he’s pushing a bit harder through them corners, your car definitely had more to give. The e46 while heavier has a superior chassis, which kind of counteracts things a bit.
@@ESKATEUK Yeah he did push it more, I could go faster through some corners but also his car is actually faster. We did multiple pulls from like 40, 50, 60 kmh and his car definitely pulls harder.

Hi, I own an E36 and I'm thinking of changing my M52B20 to a B28 or a M54B30, just for road use.
Do you have any experience with a M52B28 on E36?
Does it differ a lot from the M54b30?
I think that at low rpm any M54 is better
I suggest going for the M52B28 since it's the easiest and most original swap since you already have an M52 in it. The M54 requires some modifications, so if you want to keep things simple and original, the M52B28 is the way to go. But if you don't care about originality and difficulty then go for an M54 of course!
How would it be if the e46 had the 3.0d 204hp with remap to 250? U tried it?
Haha, no, I haven't! 🤣 But I did get a ride in a remapped E46 330d once, and it pulled nicely. However, being a diesel, it only revved up to like 4,000rpm I think, before needing to shift, which is a bit weird for me.. I prefer gasoline 😆

@@sevdinilten There is also a cabin sound here. It's a mix of both. However, if I left only the cabin sound, you wouldn't be able to hear the engine at all. Check out my first couple of videos if you want to hear how bad the audio is from the cabin only.
What is the fuel economy during this type of driving?
Glad you asked that! I actually reset my average consumption before recording this video. When I checked it at the top, it showed 16.6 liters per 100 kilometers.
@@OGBemfa She was definitely thirsty hahahaha. Is this way of checking the consumption accurate? I've found that on-board computers can sometimes give smaller numbers than the actual ones.
I would say it shows more fuel consumption than it actually uses because it also accounts for idling when stopped, which can accumulate over time. However, that's typical for daily driving. I'm not sure if that’s the case for this type of driving tho… I would have to conduct a test haha
@@OGBemfa I agree that this is pretty good mpg for daily driving. I own 318i with 143 hp and it gives me around 17-18 l/100km when I'm doing city driving.
@@VladiIliev Well for daily driving I get 9.5l/100km (I mostly drive on open roads). This video is an extreme case and obviously I don’t drive like that everyday 😆
And you say your car is stock, but it definitely doesn’t sound stock, I owned a 330ci for years and it didn’t growl like that 😂

@@OGBemfa the gap between you and the e36 is very big, well i suggest you do a drag race between your car and the e36 to see how much is the difference between the 2 cars
@@northernmaten7676 Well, the e36 has a shorter final drive, it’s about 200kg lighter, better flowing intake and exhaust, some minor ecu adjustments for better power delivery and so on. Plus as you can see I was granny shiftin’ not double clutchin’ like I should.. 🤣
@@OGBemfa e36 is not 200kg lighter i own 2 e46 and 3 e36 i compared e36 328 and e46 328 weight the difference was 85kg and many people on e46 fanatics did scale these cars and came with weights close to mine so people who thinks e36 are 200kg lighter than e46 dont know shit
My E46 is around 1470 kg. He weighed his E36 before the swap, and it was exactly 1234 kg. It's a bit heavier now because of the engine, but it also has a sunroof delete (-17 kg) and a lightweight bucket driver's seat. So, I can tell you for sure that there is still around a 200 kg difference, if not more.
with the m54b30 swap did you upgrade the original gerage 5 manua ltranssmision in the E36, i heard that the getrage is not too strong and reliable
No it’s not upgraded. It’s stock 318is Getrag 250 transmission. It should handle this power without any problems.
