- Today we get to drive what might be considered the BEST BMW combo of all time: The legendary E30 M3 powered by the equally legendary and ever so impressive S54 Drivetrain from an E46 M3. And to make it even better we get to put it to the test up in the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina. This was an unforgettable drive. I want to give a huge special thanks to Zach(@sloweuros) for trusting me with the keys to his pride and joy.
I think I might need to build one of these in the future!

hello could i ask what you did to fit a fan clutch on the s54? what rad did you use? I have a s54 swaped e30 and I would love to fit a fan clutch in front, but there's no room, would love to know what trickery you did there. thanks
@@thezapper8227 it’s an E28 535i rad fits perfectly, the s54 water pump pulley in the z3 m coupe is also closer to the engine

This was my old car, so hyped to see it go to a good home! I had incredible memories ripping this thing around upstate NY and then in the hills of LA. I truly miss it every day. Zach you're a madman driving it all the way to the east coast, that drone is real hahah!! But that's just more proof you were supposed to own this car next. Drive safe, enjoy it!

I knew it was your car the moment I saw it! Happy to see another fellow enthusiast is taking care of it and driving it like it was meant to be. My setup doesn't drone and we have nearly identical systems. The only difference is that I'm running cats on mine and I have a 6spd GS6-37BZ.

Saw the thumbnail and hate to say that I was thinking the exhaust would sound like 95% of s54s. That was the best sounding s54 I’ve ever heard. All the way to redline.
The shorter wheelbase and difference in how you have to route the exhaust makes a difference!

This is the type of e30 m3 id like. Beat up. Swapped. Etc. Im not personally a super clean, perfect car person.
Me too, a daily well set up M3 with blistering performance and a sweet soundtrack to keep the smile firmly on my face!
The most enjoyable cars to own, hands down!

I am doing the same project, but a long way off having it finished. just a few questions what suspension are you using and brake set up?
This car is on stock M3 brakes and ground control coils if i recall.

*Sorry Josh but my tuned S14/2.3 makes 260bhp and revs to 9K and is much better balanced. I had a 320is with an S50/3.0 and whilst quicker 0-60 it was not as much fun through the bends. Both cars were glorious though.*
Im sure those induction noises are amazing. Been thinking of putting a k series in my e30 as a good alternative to the s14. Ive done all out turbo bmw builds but never done a NA build.
A built S14 does sound amazing but for the price of that I love the S54
@@shifty1927 I put ITB's on an M44/1.9 and put it in a 1600-2. It made 164bhp and sounded pretty good. It's in my vids if you'd like to hear it. I did think about using the Honda S2000 engine.

Stopped messing with the car around 08 after it was the 1st to 1000whp and in the 9s.
I love the look of E30's more, but imo the E36 is just a better platform for a build like this. E30's just drive like an old car, less so than E36. In my opinion E36 is the perfect balance between the old and new. E30's also feel nose heavy with even an M20 up front, let alone an S54
You should drive an m3 with an s54, I thought the same thing until I drove this one.
Even Zach himself in the video said E36s are better! Hahaha. Ive driven both an E36 m3 and e30 m3 with S54. Cant help but feel like the E30 was the better feeling car
Charger 500 (compared to the standard 69 charger) had the same trick with the back window!
Imagine this M3 E30 with an S62 or even an S85!
Driftworks has an S65 in theirs.
Would be an absolute riot! However the driving dynamic would be very different I think. May not be as user friendly

Henna red is just a porn colour and rare on the E30 M3. BMW were replacing it with Zinnober as the M3 was being introduced.

I heard that. you're an e34 guy? since when? I thought you were always the e46 guy, or is it e36? I know the last e39 you drove on the channel made you prefer e34, but I thought that was only for fives. this is a three series.
Ive always been an E34 guy. E34 came before anything else except E46 M3. E34 is my bread and butter

We did the opposite and yanked the S54 out of e46 M3 and slapped a N55 into it 🫡
