I would love to see the same experiment repeated after you run the mylar through a paper shredder. I think it would significantly improve the efficiency of the amount of silver you would recover. I think the mylar laminated and prevented the acid from penetrating the surface of every sample.

Burn them to an ash and then process the ashes. Being the price of Nitric acid is pretty high it saves me alot of money and I don't have as much waste solution to deal with. I also use a piece of copper to cement out the silver. Don't have the best luck with the lye and sugar method. Might even have a higher recovery rate too. Keep up the the good work.

I did it some time ago. I got about 4 grames for 60 mylares. It didnt seem to be worth the effort, the cost of the acid and the mess. Silver was 14$ an ounce at the time... Electric industriale breakers are the most yealding for silver recovery... in my opinion anyway

Synthetics glycerin is better - higher boiling point. But, when i don´t have synthetic, I use plant.
