Wow, changing out the over-axle pipes makes a huge difference getting rid of the GPF!!! In the USA that is what needs to be done to enhance the sound!!!! Thank you for sharing this video!!!
Not Porsche’s fault on that one. European emissions regulations are not optional. Now, sticking the car with ridiculously tall gearing? That’s the real bummer that costs a lot to address
In the Porsche Owners Manual they refer to GPF not OPF. GPF=Gasoline Particulate Filter which has a second cat added on. In the USA 🇺🇸 since the GPF is not monitored by removing the over-axle link pipe you enhance the sound and reduce weight and pick up Hpw & torque by this modification!!! Awesome change!!!
Great video, thank you. The cargraphic system uses a hollow OPF replacement instead of a straight pipe as per akrapovic, citing it maintains a better tone. I'm wondering if anyone has removed or bored through the internal filter elements inside of the original factory unit? Thinking it would look maintain the stock factory look, noting that this would only be appropriate for non Euro & Asian markets that have un-monitored OPF filters....
Sound clips from the Driver's seat please. the guy or gal paying for these is in the driver's seat, so sound clips from the inside are the only thing that counts. My Spyder is NEVER going down the road at full throttle unless I am in the driver seat. I am actually interested in this product
Great video! Love the change in the sound too! I do have one question: there's a support bracket at the back of each Akrapovic OPF Link Pipe that doesn't look like it's necessary in the US (right next to what I assume is the monitoring bung). Can you comment on that support bracket? Otherwise, these link pipes look like a factory piece with the built-in heat shield. Seriously considering them for my GTS 4.0!
I don’t hear any backfires or burbles on downshift like on the base 911 992 in sport mode. Any mods that can produce this type of fun exhaust sounds???
I bought the same system for my spyder, but I ended up installing the pipes only (wrong version of muffler) what does a muffler do and do you recommend keeping the stock muffler?
Since that is a titanium piece, how does it do with the rest of the system at both ends? Ti and stainless expand and contract at different rates and temps. Doesn't that leave the potential for an exhaust leak to develop?
It's unlikely at that joint, it does have a gasket there. Aluminum and stainless are similar (heads being aluminum, headers being steel) and don't cause issue. I'd imagine if there wasn't a gasket there, there could be more of a risk.

How much hp and torque gain results from just changing the link pipes? In the Akrapovic site they have the numbers after changing the complete exhaust system and ECU re map.
So at some point in late February 2020, Porsche made a change to the exhaust brackets on the 718 GT4. The center muffler is now supported directly from the frame/body instead of a bracket that was used on the 981. We believe this change was made due to the weight of the OPFs and issues that might have surfaced with heavy track use. To answer your question, the link pipes have a bracket that can be used on the original exhaust brackets design. On the newer models, they go unused. They don't show and being titanium, they probably weight an ounce. Akrapovic, will be making a new version without that bracket, but at this point, it really doesn't matter.
Nothing noticeable experienced when cruising. Actually less than stock. It seems the back pressure from the particulate filter close to the seat seems to add some slight drone stock. We noticed it more on the 718 all stock than the 981 GT4. Oddly, these seem to minimize any drone.
OPF is installed on US vehicles? I thought that was only EU? Every time I heard an EU vehicle I was happy I was in the US. I guess Im just glad here in michigan I can put a race exhaust on it and run it on the street. Those poor people in CA are screwed!
They all ship with OPFs now, we're seeing it across the board with the new Porsche models. The EU has active monitoring like the U.S. has on a primary catalyst. In the U.S., they are not monitored, just there restricting flow and being of substantive weight. It's probably just a matter of time...

That valve open rev sounds so good. Is the vacuum line disconnected/disabled?
No, everything is stock programming of the valves.

wow the difference when valves are closed. a question, simpleminded me would assume a closed exhaust system is not good for the car?
no, a closed exhaust system is fine. open just helps to relieve some back pressure I think
Partially closed creates back pressure and is vital to engine efficiency and heat cycles. GPF is regulatory and a different thing.
I bought the same system for my spyder, but I ended up installing the pipes only (wrong version of muffler) what does a muffler do and do you recommend keeping the stock muffler?
A muffler increases the sound and adds some deeper tone. We like the Kline system and Soul Valved system for a nice balanced sound.
Will installing the pipes void the warranty/motorplan?
Not in the United States, I am unsure in other countries
is it a must to re-tune the car if u just change the link pipes?

Yes, same exhaust set-up. There is a catalyst integrated into the header and then an OPF integrated into the over axle (link pipes).
