Hi there. Been watching you and subscribed to you a few months ago. Love your content. Thank you fir it. I did pick up a non newsstand, beat up to heck and back, 1st Cover of Jordan in his NC uni. It was UDA authenticated and bought on ebay. How can I look up the pop report of these magazines. Like to know how many news stand and non-news stand are out there signed. Thanks.
@rushdoulati2710 Thanks for watching! If you search "CGC census", you can pull up the pop reports. But unfortunately, they don't currently have any breakouts for copies that have been signed, unless it was a signature series (meaning it was signed in the physical presence of a CGC employee, which is very rare). I expect other autos being noted in the pop report will come in the future once they roll out their JSA signature authentication.
I generally agree except it’s much harder to locate vintage cards with autos because it was considered back then to devalue card. Signed vintage magazines never had that stigma so they are much more available than cards. Of course newsstand much harder to find still.
@@Hectekk I think that's a fair point. But I still think vintage signed newsstands are very rare. Would be interesting to know if there are more Mickey Mantle signed rookie cards or Mickey Mantle signed first SI covers in newsstand.
I've got Stan Musial's and Ted Williams' auto on their '57 or so All Star cover, unfortunately subscription and just the cover. Dick Butkus' on his 2nd cover, unfortunately subscription. Larry Bird's on just the cover. And Cal Ripken's. You can read all the autos clearly. Personally, I'd rather not have an autograph on a mag if their auto is sloppy and you can't make it out.
CGC told me that they will accept JSA signed magazines with cert sticker in future but will charge for auto certification still. Not sure why they would do that if it already had JSA sticker on magazine. That seems like double dipping for no logical reason.
Curious, at what point does a newsstand and a subscription issue with label cleanly removed intersect? Is a 9.8 subscription issue with label cleanly removed worth as much as a newsstand 5? At some point a magazine in great shape has to over ride a magazine that doesn't present well. Bucktrucker agrees😁
@gcxred4kat9 Yes, I agree as well. But I don't think there's a magic formula. I think it totally depends on a variety of factors such as the cover and the year. For example, a Mickey Mantle FC newsstand 6.5 and a subscription 8.5 both have sold for $3,000 in the past few years.
@@sportsmags mostly sub... in that the target of signed FC SI's, one has to try to get any version (sure newsstand over sub if given a choice)... next was deceased over living as I could always circle back on living. CGC pop report is terrible... PSA and PSA/DNA pop report and registry sets are key advantage they have over other slab companies.. add CGC autograph program was terrible where as PSA has seperate catagory for each item of PSA DNA (signed) pop. I know, comic collectors use cgc, just as card collectors use psa (psa dna) but SI and sports mags and specicially signed mags.. with PSA and PSA DNA pop reports, as well as set registry program, migration to psa, psa/dna for mags if sports based.. similar to eco system Apple has on devices... it is better integrated for all devices thus, helps get sales of accessory devices.
I wrote three books on collecting sports illustrated and I priced signed items on them because that is what we did 25-30 years ago. Hobby started around 1985 to do full magazines before that it was just the cover. Newsstand became the way to go by 1990. So you will find many of those mint issues signed. Card autographs were popular back into the 1950's but quality was not the key related to autographs.
@@PhilipsRegli Phil, I appreciate the insight. I read one of your books and loved it. Would love to see the history that you wrote this year for the National.
CGC census is terrible. PSA and PSA DNA pop report is best in hobby. PSA and PSA DNA registry sets will have one for HOF SI FC's. PSA/ PSA DNA already have HOF post WW2 RC, both signed and unsigned. Why key SI FC signed of ICONs will go route of PSA, PSA/DNA... The PSA registry sets creates competition that makes slabbing of them go the PSA route. JSA signing up for CGC slabs? good, but too little, too late... as CGC pop report is terrible and no registry set competition...
Stud video Brad - you are a legend for sure
Vintage subscriptions will help this hobby and autograph hobby explode like no other
Scott Smith, aka si.king, looks like a genius. Bizarre that he got so many autographs on subscription issues
thanks brad always look forward to your videos entertaining and informative

well, secret is out.... signed FC SI's.. oh well. (opps, i have Ali, MJ, Lebron, Kobe, Mantle, Brown, etc already) I am good.
@@mark-bs1wg Newsstand or subscription? Those would be killer ones either way, but I'm just curious. Signed newsstands of all those would be insane.

Not going to happen. Wishful thinking. Cards are on a completely different level. 💯
