This whole Austin comedy scene has put the bar for comedy on the floor, they just say bitch, or make fun of someone and call it comedy. Sleepwalking us into mediocrity, so hacks can be acceptable, Rogan started this parade of hacks.
I think a lot of these guys believe their own BS about cancel culture after facing mass criticism. I think what we might be experiencing is some form of social media induced PTSD. Our brains never really evolved to mentally withstand that many people calling us out. I see this with a lot of people who believe in cancel culture as a boogeyman, they themselves had some sort of incident that made them shook. And that's why they think it's such a big deal.
It feels like we've reached a point in society where anyone brave enough to get on stage is celebrated because they made the effort. Not because they're actually funny.
David seems like the type of comedian who would bitch and moan about participation trophies, yet this special is exactly that.
They should start letting them put stickers on the good job board whenever they do a full set and have at least 30% of the audience left

I went with my dad and his friends to his show in Philly once. I didn't know who was performing. I never felt so isolated and miserable. I didn't laugh at one joke while the room was hysterical throughout.

Yes, pausing every 2 seconds at the intro to criticize the design and shots of the venue and how it aliens are a subversive nod to born-again Christianity, very underrated. This guy provides some top-notch commentary. You can tell this guy was stung by Joe Rogan lack of conformity to his personal worldview long before David Lucas came along.

i wasn't around for his prime so seeing a recentish special left me confused about why my parents and older cousins thought he was so funny when i was a kid. i've seen older clips since and i get it, but a good portion of the recent specials i've seen have been dedicated to whining

There's been times on Kill Tony when someone makes a gay joke at David's expense, and he gets VERY VERY VERY defensive. It becomes a serious matter, not a joke. There was a time when he was the guest and one of the bucket pulled comedians said something that was fake-flirting with David ... clearly joking ... and David totally went off ... yelling "He was serious!!! He was really askin' me!!! I aint gay!!! I love women!!! I love women!!!"
It was very revealing. Something you'd put in a comedy movie to show that a character is obviously in the closet.
