Just came across this video and it was a thoroughly enjoyable watch with an Erdinger, after a very busy week of uni. I walked the Way in 2022 as a naive young man with no experience thru hiking or wild camping and had a pretty special experience. I started alone, but on night two met several people from across Europe who all had a lot more experience than me - fortunately they let me tag along, and I am ever grateful to them. The WHW will always hold a special place in my heart, and I am sure I'll walk it again one day. It's fantastic to be able to relive memories through this video, so thank you Mike for making it!
Hey Mike! Just wanted to say my partner and I watched your video all the time in prep for the WHW - we’re just about to complete our last day of the trip and can’t thank you enough for all the great insight and tips! 🏔️🌞
Hi Kirsty, I am so glad that you found my video inspiring and that you will now have completed the walk yourselves. Congratulations on finishing, I hope you have the same sense of achievement that I had👍💕
Yes well done Mike! That's was a smashing vid mate! You've got one of those voices that we could sit and listen to some of your tales for a good while!😄👌👍 Paul & Lin
Followed you every step of the way. We walked the WHW in 1996 but it looks like there are many more amenities now. We used B&Bs - a real bed and a shower then a cooked breakfast!!! Beinnglas was not nearly so sophisticated, it was a field for camping and B&B in the farmhouse. Eating meant a walk down to the Drovers Inn. Inveroran Hotel refused to serve walkers at that time. We hooked up with the 'luggage movers' from Rowardennan What a blessing! We stayed with a lovely couple who told us the history of Kinlochleven and the smelter. Well done Mike
Amazing achievement! Thank you for filming your adventure. so glad you had a good experience this time . I had only driven pass or to some of the lovely places you mentioned. Beautiful country and you made it even more welcoming with your channel.
My word Mike, kudos! I have gone to bed early watching this as I’m worn out! I couldn’t even walk a mile on good ground, let alone the distance and the terrain you managed! Lovely to see Trish and Kiera at the end too. Well done that man. 👏👏👏
Loved watching this. Thanks for sharing. I walked the WHW in my 20s over 22yrs ago! It seems ALOT more tourist now regarding food and accomodation. I want my creature comforts and planning on doing this again before I get too old lol. You have helped me plan how I can do this. So thank you!😊
Glad you enjoyed it, the baggage transfer was a god-send for me, like you I like my comforts these days, and lightening the load just helped me to enjoy the walk so much more, and the cabin stops are just the best.
Well done mate. Its a beautiful walk. I completed it in 2019. Looking to head back in May 2024. It's probably the best long distance walk I've completed.
Firstly congratulations on completing the walk 👏 We thoroughly enjoyed this video Mike, so much so we watched it twice 🤭 We feel we experienced the walk without getting the sore feet 🙈😂 The chippy side of the good food cafe is absolutely delicious, highly recommend the spicy fish bites next time your up that way. The BTW campsite was closed for the season when we were in the area, but the warden chap had a good chat with us & recommended a few wild/free spots in the area, top bloke! How lovely that you & the mexican gents completed it together, lovely to watch 😎 The pods are expensive, but looks like they were needed & at least you had a wee broon tent & a wee broon pod 🫣😂 Thanks, Em 💜
Thanks Em, a chippy would have hit the spot for sure. I found the walk part great enjoyment and part sheer endurance. Great company at times to walk with, especially my two amigos. 👍💕🐾
Good for you doing this walk … at your age! I’d love to do it, looks a lot harder than I thought, so congratulations once again. Think I’ll just my wife to meet me at points in the MH for a good meal, sleep and hug from the dugs.
@@MikeandTriciaOotnAboot I emigrated in 2009 and despite having spent so many years hiking the highlands there's so many places I kick myself for not having hiked before leaving. But yes if you can, save for a holiday. You can spend up to 14 days on the trail. Most do it in a week or less. Our first was 7 days, the next was 10 and last year we did 8. Both our kids hiking it with us next year and we will do 10 days again
Well done Mike! We have such fun watching your and Trish’s adventures and we love your humour and dry wit. Your editing is better than anything we could watch on the BBC! Thank you and please hurry and make more content.
Well done! What a lovely adventure! My husband and I walked the Way in April, just a few weeks before you. You brought back such good memories of the places we passed. It is definitely a challenge, but so much fun. We sampled the cakes and sausage rolls at every opportunity! Some of that terrain was brutal, but it was worth it for the beautiful views and the friends we met along the walk. Thanks for sharing your adventure!
That was fantastic. I have no idea where you got the energy to set up the camera to take those walking shots of yourself! I really enjoyed this video the photography was amazing and right from the introduction on the train it was so professionally presented. Thanks for sharing.
Well done Mike. Fantastic achievement especially after your troubles in it last time. I did it 35 yrs ago & looking at doing it again next year. Might do what you did & use baggage transfer. Again, well done👏👏
Hi Gary, I would definitely recommend the baggage transfer. I didn't realise they did campsites until I got to the first one, and it was such a good decision 👍💕🐾
Many thanks Mike for a very well done and informative video. Far better than other I have watched on this walk. The transfer service makes a great difference. Booking a cabin made a very welcome respite! Not sure I could manage at my age? Best wishes.
Thanks Jeanette, I'm glad it's done, loved it and loathed it at the same time.Must get fitter if I'm to do another distance walk next year which I'm thinking about already.👍💕🐾
So you did it in 7 days too eh? I think that was just right, it meant that there was one or two easy-ish days to recuperate. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it.
@@MikeandTriciaOotnAboot Yes, we did it in 7 days, starting 9 May. Your video perfectly captures OUR trip and I think it's the video we'll show our friends and family! Have you done the Wicklow Way? That's our next hike, planned for September 2023.

Hope you enjoyed the view through the round window, I sat there for a while watching walkers go up the ben. Maybe I should have carved "wee broon van was here" on the wall for you to add to🤣
So well done! I don’t usually comment but that was an awesome walk to have done with some long challenging days, mainly on your own. I have just done first half of coast to coast and loved it, particularly the camaraderie with other walkers but appreciate how challenging the longer days must have been. Best enjoyed looking back and what a sense of achievement 🎉 Where next? 😂
Thanks Carol, and well done for doing that half. I would quite like to do a walk once a year if I can gey myself a bit fitter it would help. We are spoiled for choice in this country for walks but quite fancy the great Glen way next.

Great job!! Loved your video, I think you passed me up on the trail 😂 AND you finished 4 days less than me, but we finished it. Thank you for sharing. 6 months later and I’m already planning The Great Glen Way 😊
Hi Shelli, hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. It really doesn't matter how long it takes, the most important thing is that you enjoy it, that's what I found with using baggage transfer. I don't think that's an option on the Great Glen Way. Funnily enough I am also thinking about it for May. Before the midges really wake up 🤣
Hi Mike, a big thank you for your incredibly helpful run through of the WHW. Finished it last week (8 days) and enjoyed every minute. My word, Loch Lomond is tough! Great advice about using the baggage transfer service.

Hi Cee, thanks, some people do it a lot less but 7 days is just about right for me. Is your cottage really haunted? By who?
Great video of your walk 👍
Cheers Ian👍💕🐾
Good job. Wonderful hike.
Cheers Dave, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Well done mate I'm thinking of going looks like graft 😮
Thanks, yep it is a graft, but a real sense of achievement at the end.
Great video really enjoyed it, I'm thinking of doing it in the near future so got a good few tips from you.
Thanks, and good luck if you decide to go for it, it's awesome but tough.
Well done and thank you for sharing a great insight in to The Highland Way. We think you were very sensible booking those cabins and paying for luggage transfer you needed those treats. We are looking forward to hearing more about your new wee not brown van.All best wishes
Thanks Lynda, I am so glad I did baggage transfer and some cabins, may not have made it otherwise. New van still on track for August.
Very enjoyable, well done 😎👍😊
Cheers Mark

We love your trips and really like your pipes and drums soundtrack. Where can we find that music ?
Hi Dave, thanks. I need to use copyright free music so I use a site called Epidemic Sound
Good for you!!! and many thanks for sharing your adventures during this West Highland Way.. also amazing to have met up with walkers from other countries, I do wonder if any Argentine has ever done the walk???? Keep safe...
Hi Diana, I'm sure many have although didn't meet any. I met Americans, Australians, Mexicans, lots of Germans, oh yes, a few Brits too👍💕🐾
Miss you, Trish, and Kira! Hope everyone is well, and that maybe you're just taking a break!
Aw thanks so much, we are still waiting for the new van so that's why we've not been doing videos but an update soon👍🐾💕
