I’ve owned Simms waders since the first versions were released. I upgraded to the G3 when they came out and I still have my first pair of Simms waders. I looked at the G4’s and the only reason I would consider buying them was to get the G4Z with the zipper which is Nice when nature calls. The G4’s are nice but I’ve never felt the need to upgrade my G3 waders over the years. I have tons of Simms gear and if I ever do upgrade ..it will be the G4Z. This is coming from a guy that has always had to have the latest and greatest when the features are worth the investment. Bottom line, G3 waders are still badass and will serve you for many many years. If I didn’t own any waders and was outfitting from scratch...then I would buy the G4Z....the zipper is a nice feature providing it NEVER leaks. I haven’t heard any issues with the zipper. Truthfully, you can’t go wrong with either! I’ve owned Simms gear for 19 years. Thanks for posting this review. Simms gear is worth the money.
I wish the G4 still had all that extra 5 layer fabric. it seems like now that g3 and g4 have the same amount of the extra durable fabric. Could you guys do this video again, only using the current versions of these two waders? Thanks!
Great info. In the video you said you should always buy one size bigger when comes to boots in regards to the wader. What's your opinion on boot foot waders? Do you still recommend buying one size bigger?
For that much, u should hv 100% waterproof zip up pockets and storage pocket for yr cell phone. All waders should have a sip up water proof pocket for yr cell phone
It's funny how on videos about any type of premium gear a few people will always bitch about the price. If you can't afford the product it is not the manufacturers fault.
Waders in general are one of the biggest expenses for any type of fishing. I personally would never buy Simms again because of a Warranty issue they did not stand behind after the waders were only 3 months old. Been fishing along time and never met a pair of waders that do not start to leak after 2-3 years.. Money making scheme...
Bad luck. You might have got a bad pair and they only broke it off in your keister on the warranty for because of neglect. Simms is simply the best. Bar none. Sorry you had a bad experience.
G4z have an ongoing problem of leaking at the stocking foot / leg seam junction. I sent mine back to Simms twice to have them repaired and they sent them back saying they did not leak. They lied. For CS, I know when I am constantly wet around both ankles!!! The third time I sent them in they say it’s out of warranty! Simms Warranty used to mean something. Not any more. For what we pay for these waders they can afford to take care of customers instead of dodging their responsibility. Shame on you Simms.
If Simms didnt have such ignorant elitist company mentality id buy some in a heartbeat. They openly stated they will not sponsor or support any anglers that aren't fly fishing. The centerpin / float fishing angler community is very disappointed in Simms. Its fine that they refuse to sponsor any non fly fishing tournaments but to be so high and mighty about it is what was upsetting. Fly fishing is not the only elitist method of pursuing steelhead and salmon. $1700 BER custom float reels with a custom 13'er drifting wet flies and spawn under 2lbs fluorocarbon is more challenging and more elite than any fly outfit. Make an apology Simms. And us centerpin anglers will give you a pass and buy your product again. You might think I'm a small fish just a speck in the demographic but i have strong social media presence and prostaff status and hundreds of people i connect with refuse to buy simms because it being anti everything that's not swinging flies. Not a good business move Simms. Fix it.
So... you're saying that if you buy Simms waders, you will not be able to fish the way you prefer anymore...? Do the waders have a mechanical arm that smacks you every time you pick up a centerpin instead of a spey rod? For the price of Simms waders, you could buy a whole third world country and make your own wader company.
I’ve had the G3’s for years and I just put my phone in the inside flap pocket and it never gets wet. The inside pocket will flips out and when tucked in protects anything from getting wet (besides taking a swim). It’s a bit of a sin to get on your cell phone when you’re out on the water (for me) it’s an escape from reality when fly fishing....I’m an electrical engineer and I want far away from tech when I’m fishing and I enjoy it when I’m far enough off the grid to have no service. But that’s just me.
@@jamesdunn9714 I strongly agree with both your guys opinions here but I always keep my phone on me for safety purposes. I hike a good 4-5 miles away from where I park in a place that already doesn’t have service. I use a map recording app that only requires gps signal to run so I won’t ever get lost. Plus the app has a lifeline feature to “call” for help in case you get injured or incapacitated. Comes in real handy for anyone way off grid fishing alone in the mountains like me.
To place outside pockets on this high-end SIMMS G4 wader, which are not waterproof! How stupid is that? This is a killer criteria not to by this wader!
can someone verify that these are $500+ ? also, is there an alternate color option other than grandpa vanilla or /old salty fisherwoman i dont care what i look like-ill take beige- color opton. can we get some dark green or something with some flavor - sheesh.
A man running in waders - funny as shit! 😁

Any chance we can get an updated version of this video? So much good info... Curious about the new g3 vs new g4.

You really can't go wrong with either. Simm's makes great waders, once your in the water you'll love them even more.
@ 4:23 a trout is clearly visible.
These boots were more comfortable than any pair of tennis shoes I've had to put on.
Love my G3S!!!
use 3 times a week how long will they last..
“Nice drainage hole”. That’s the first thing I thought of when looking at the wader, you need a nice drainage hole, not an average one
How tall are you because my build is a lot like yours.
Might be a stupid question. What does one do if you need to pee??
Bionik Cruz like Lloyd told Harry in Dumb and Dumber... "just go, man"
Pre-pee 'winks
G4 Z or Freestone Z waders
thanks a lot bro im an odd shaped guy and this really helped me with my waiter choice
When you ordered that meal did you get the "waiter" of your choice?
ben !! you rock!!!! thanks
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
ok, first things first.. Both of these these pockets are non water proof..?

Billy C 2lb leader for steelhead is the most ridiculous bullshit I have ever heard of. You're not elite, you're a hack.
lolol...yeah lets see how many steelhead he lands on 2lb tippet with there 100 hero drifts...i fucking hate centerpin assholes
You sir, are a bullshitter
Waders that function and last just as well can be purchased for much less.
Hey bro...just curious...which ones ? ...I'm looking at the frog toggle hellbenders...any thoughts ?...thanx in advance...kipp
For the price point, it should have water proof pockets. Everyone needs there phone on them.

It is a good idea to get away from the phone when fishing. Enjoy nature .
