- Its Autumn so what better place than to head to Thetford Forest for some Woodland Photography to capture some autumn colours. Meeting Gary Norman at sunrise for a walk in Thetford Forest, in this vlog we didn't get mist so I explain how you can take advantage of light in the forest to create compositions

Nice to see you both I am off for some woodland next week
Thanks Paul, good luck mate hope you take advantage of the autumn colours 👍
That looked like an enjoyable day Jamie, another great video. Some great story-tellling too 👍
Had a great morning out with Gary, and was pleasantly surprised I managed to get some reasonable images considering we were chatting more than snapping!
I think this could be your best mate! Stunning woodland shots! Really liked the whole feel! And also you explained your thought process!
Thanks mate, I really appreciate that. It was the first time I’ve explained my thought process in this way. I’ve never professed to be an expert or show people what to do, but I thought the key takeaways were worth sharing ie use the light!
Another great video! Your channel is growing so well man!! Loved the nonsense with Gary at the beginning :) the light on the sapling shot!!!! That's stunning
Hey mate, thanks for watching. Yeah happy the way the channel is gradually building but it’s hard work making it happen as you well know! Can’t beat a bit of nonsense 😉...thanks Adam 👍
Enjoyable watch Jamie with very nice images.
Many thanks John, much appreciated
What an enjoyable morning that was (even though I couldn't find somewhere two miles away on a straight road!!!) By the way that shot of the river was fantastic!! I saw the fallen tree as an obstacle and you used it as a focal point... Loved it!
Always an enjoyable shoot with you mate, I think we both got some nice keepers from it. To be fair had to crawl through the undergrowth to get to that comp and it was only the sun shining on that fallen tree that made it. Hopefully see you again in a few weeks 👍
Now I’m back in Blighty I’m just catching up on last weeks videos.
I enjoyed the last image of the fallen tree and stream, I thought the vignette worked really well.
I don’t know if you seen the recent news about ticks, but unfortunately for us Thetford forest carries quite a nasty one and so no more walking in shorts for me.
Take it easy bud 👍
Hi mate, no worries looks like you had a great time in Iceland. This was the weekend you left I think. That last image seems to going down well which surprises me as it was my least favourite - I guess because I knew I was trying very hard to make one final image. Thanks mate, hopefully see you soon 👍
Some excellent images Jamie / very interesting video - thanks
Thank you Peter, glad you enjoyed it
Great vlog Jamie, follow the light!
Thanks Paul! When there’s no mist, look for the light 😉
Really helpful and inspiring...Thanks...and great shots.
Thanks Louise. That’s good to hear. I hope I helped with some pointers when your next out with your camera 👍
A nice morning out and some good (randomly lost) company along too. (;> Lovely video. Kind regards, BG
Many thanks. Gary is always great company and we had a laugh about him getting lost!
really enjoyed that video, I loved the shots as well. Made me chuckle mixing up 47 meters with 47,000 acres and then to be told you are with lots of useful information.
+Steven Musgrove Photography Yeah that was a bit of an own goal Steven! The brain wasn’t talking to the mouth 😂Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching 👍
Great video as always Jamie, with some stunning images. I imagine it would have been a lot shorter video with far less shots if you were shooting in 47m2 of woodland. Well done , Keep shooting.
Haha, yep that would have just been a copse of trees! I blame Gary for distracting me 😂. Thanks for watching and your feedback Dean 👍
Hi Jamie
You've given me something to work on, I always struggle in the woods for image's, maybe as there is so much going in, will have a go tomorrow and see if I can get a few myself.
I’m pleased I can help! Following the light in woodland really helps me take pictures that create mood and atmosphere. I hope you can get some good ones yourself
Thank goodness you didn't call it a collaboration.... Nice vlog.
Haha, nope I think that’s been used a bit too much now! Thanks Colin
Just watched this and again just down the road from me but I tend to go to Swaffham forest ( A1122/A47junction) if you haven’t been there I can recommend, wall to wall copper in late October/November. Anyway thanks for another great vlog, given me a few pointers for when we can get out again.
Thanks Malcolm, I’ll look that area up for sure. Hope to get back there in the Autumn...hopefully!
I've been out a few times recently and got zlich! In fairness nothing was happening with the light. I'm slowly realising it's all about the light! Okay it's about other factors like composition & subject, but if you haven't got the light you haven't got a photo! Once again you're inspiring me to get out there, especially with the image at 12.05mins. Am I the only one who has bad dreams of waking up and the trees are all bare having missed autumn?
I can’t believe you got zilch, you’re too harsh on yourself mate, your shots are excellent. Spot on about light though, it’s slowly dawning on me, how it can make or break an image. Nice to hear I’m inspiring you mate, that means a lot!
Great vlog. Where is Gary lol
That’s a good question 😂 Thanks 🙏
Stunning b-roll and cinematography my friend. Loved the images and story telling. Gary gets lost in 2 miles?? I cant comment on that as i am very directionally challenged 😂😂😂
I still don’t understand how he got lost but it was funny and gave me some content for the vlog!! Ironically I wasn’t overall happy with the video on this one - I was trying manual of the M50 for the first time and screwed it up! Thanks for watching my friend 👍
