Thank Phil. It’s a good start considering a it my first entry. I get to go to the awards ceremony in a couple of weeks also. That should be fun.

This is the furthest I seen to have been recently, but hopefully I get to travel a bit more in the near future.

Ben being in the top 1% of the Landscape Photographer of the Year is absolutely awesome! All you need now is a suitable boat. Great video Ben.

Thanks Chris, top 1% is a good outcome, I am happy with that. I suspect that you would have to camp out there or start off really early in the boat if you wanted to capture some mist like the inspiration image. Maybe next year!

Well done on getting shortlisted. One of my mates was shortlisted previously, and this year actually won the city scape category. Just have to keep entering your top shots.
Also, if the windmill image was a drone shot, the photographer could have parked on the windmill side and flown out,... But he wouldn't have had a nice wander and a bit of an explore. Although I appreciate my drone for ease sometimes, it does take away some of the fun of photography.

Keep an eye out for my video this Sunday as I went to the award ceremony last week where the winners were announced! Jay Birmingham, who captured the cover image did confirm it was a drone shot. I can easily see it getting tangled in the trees opposite the windmill though, so be careful!

Well done in being shortlisted Ben. You take some stunning shots. I once had a good scout around this area by the way and got some nice pics, until they put the sign up for fishermen only. Still, there are some nice pics to be had in the mist from the other side and then you can just hover a drone over the water if the conditions are good 😉

Cheers Jay. I noticed the fishermen along that side of the bank, and I get the fact that you can only fish there if you have paid to do so - but surely anyone can walk along there?!? I think the drone shots might be the way forward for this location, but it was busy when I visited - I would have upset a few people I recon.

Ah! I visited in spring and I was the only one there when I got the shot. I think it was around 6:30am - but would have to check my EXIF.

I have just put two and two together, it’s your image on the cover of the book! Congratulations to you sir. They don’t make it easy to find the artists for the cover, but I found you via their Facebook page. See you at the award ceremony?

great achievement getting shortlisted Ben for LPOTY as the standard is always high so being in that top 1% is fantastic. You should consider entering some of your architectural images in other notable competitions. I've was fortunate to have 2 images recognised this year in the International Photography Awards and another 2 in the PX3 awards and it's down to you for opening my eyes to the potential of B&W fine art architecture photography. I am delivering a presentation to a Photographic Society soon and part of it, I discuss my journey and mention it was your images from Glasgow that drew me towards the genre and have been immersed in it ever since

I think his architecture work is fantastic too… the problem is that you have to have the image taken in the last 5 years. I think Ben took them longer ago but they are sublime.
Another great explore Ben and the wider shot with the big sky is impressive . 😊

@@louisewelcomephotography Some are limited to 5 years but there are some like the ND Awards where there is no time limit but it all comes down to personal choice and which competitions to enter

Hi Jim, thanks for the kind words, and being in the top 1% is a massive achievement in itself - I am happy with that, especially since it is my first year entering. Congratulations on your achievements also, and thank for for the future mention in your presentation. It was nice to meet up in person also. I entered one fine art image to the competition, I believe it was an urban category or similar, but that didn’t make it through on this occasion. This is the first competition I have entered in years, so yes I should enter more; thank you for the nudge.

I think you could have been in the same vantage point as that photographer, except he didn’t have that bloody boat parked right underneath your windmill. You should have woken them up and told them to shift it! Nice video as always Ben, thanks.

Haha. I wouldn’t dare. I am not sure if this particular windmill rotates also, as the mill was a different orientation in his photograph….

Ben I think the photos you took of the windmill are nice. I see it’s a lot of work to get to some of the locations you go to and you seem to always make some very nice images. I enjoy watching your journey and seeing the video even if you don’t capture any images. I was especially interested in the seals when I saw the one with spots. I didn’t know some seals have spots so I learned something new today. Nice video! Cheers from Western North Carolina, USA.

Thanks Clark, i cant remember the last time I published a video that I didn’t capture any photos…I would personally right off the video I think if there was no photography to be had. I always seem to make an image of some kind, despite the weather and conditions.
