- Yes another morning in the fog! Every now and again the conditions fall in my favour at a weekend so I can take an early morning walk in the local woodland and photograph the trees. In this video, I got the distinct impression I was being watched.....
Nice ‘quiet’ shots, Jamie. I like that they don’t shout at me. Fog is great for woodland photography!
Thank you. Yes I much prefer softer feeling images than 'loud' ones!
Definitely worth the early rise
It certainly was mate. Generally the case that your heart knows best even if your head tells you to go back to sleep!
Beautiful images Jamie, well worth the early rise.
Thanks Mark, yes it certainly was, had a thoroughly enjoyable morning
What a lovely video!! Just a chappie out enjoying the landscape and his photography. Very chilled😀
Cheers matey. Hope your well bud. I’m certainly chilled at the moment - on holiday in Turkey!
@@JamieOverland enjoy bud😀
Great conditions 🙂👍
Yes indeed!
Really enjoyed this vlog Jamie, thank you. Best regards Robin
Thanks Robin, much appreciated as always
all images are fantastic. The last one is beautiful and reminds me of a certain painting.
Thanks. Yes that last what I saw when I photographed that scene before. Very reminiscent of the Michelangelo!
Good to see you back, James. Nice shots
Thanks David
Great video as ever Jamie.
Glad to see you out in your woodland.
Stunning image's 👌
Thanks Gary 👍
@JamieOverland I'm thinking as your the king of woodland Jamie.
I'm going to have to invite you down to my neck of the Epping Forrest woods to see how you fair here mate. Going to get Gary here at some point as well
It has taken you long enough but, at last, welcome to the Nikon family. Mali Davies, Nigel Danson, Henry Turner and now Thomas Heaton can't all be wrong! Always like your work and your vlogs so good luck with the new kit.
Thanks Keith. Never really been bothered about the manufacturer really. The main thing is do I feel happy and confident with it. So far so good with the Nikon
@@JamieOverland My comment was a bit tongue in cheek as there are no bad cameras these days. I got my first Nikon in 1977 and have stayed with the brand ever since as they have always met my needs. Cheers
Keith
Some great images in this one Jamie - maybe a bit of Michelangelo influence in the one at 21.05 😉 ...Nice to see you back and enjoying it so much 👍😊
That's exactly what I shared on twitter with that image John! Thanks
❤❤👍👍👌👌😊😊
👍
Great video, Jamie. 👏🏻👏🏻Thanks for taking us with you for some great vlogging and some cracking images….also I would like to welcome you to the dark side as some call it(Nikon) 😂
Cheers Andrew, much appreciated
Always a pleasure to see you and the flatlands. Some lovely shots there.
If those trees with the white blossom are Blackthorns, which I suspect at this time of year could be, you could make a heck of a lot of Sloe Gin for Christmas.
Compression, surely you just mean cropping the scene with a longer lens ....
Hi Iain, blackthorn eh - I’ll go with that and didn’t know about the sloe gin. I’ll bear that in mind. Yes of course, compression in the visual sense 😉
@@JamieOverland Pick the sloes in the late summer. Stick them in a bottle of Gin. Good to go by Christmas. For God sake strain the gin well and don't drink the skin or stones unless you want a visit to a Toxicology Dept 💀
I'm not sure what you mean by 'compression' what changes perspective/proportion in a shot is how close or far away you stand with a lens, nothing to do with the lens itself. All the lens does is narrow/widen the field of view and focus.
Another excellent video mate - love the image at 18:30! That little bit of extra reach on the 24-120 should come in handy for woodland.
Yes it's surprising how handy that extra reach is. In my old set up I would have reaching for the telephoto much more as topped out at 70mm
Hey Jamie welcome to the friendly fold the NIKON superstars 😂😂😂 !!!
😊👍
I'm the one the pubcast guys go on about 😃😃😃
Lovely video mate really enjoyed it great images hope all is well with you and your family Burt
Hi Burt, many thanks. All good thanks, hope you guys are too
@@JamieOverland all good here thanks
Great set of images, especially love the branches reaching out at 21:06
Many thanks Russ
Jamie, nice to see you've switched to the superior camera brand 😂. Out of interest, what tripod are you using? I'm in the market for a tripod without a centre column so would be interested to get your thoughts on it. Love the images by the way. I should do more woodland but just struggle trying to see the wood for the trees if you know what I mean. Trying to find a composition amongst all the chaos. Might have to give it a go again soon. I don't have any excuses as I have Cannock Chase right on my doorstep.
Hi Peter, I have the Benro Mach 3 legs. Really pleased with them, rock solid but not too heavy. Would recommend. Woodland isn’t that hard really, you just need practice. I would definitely recommend using a telephoto though to remove the distractions until you can start seeing the wider scenes
Now invested in the N system lol , enjoy .
Why though ?
Focus system not as good , but then trees don't run around , lol
Good to see another of your mini movies .
Hi David. If I’m honest I was just not feeling the love for the Sony, I didn’t enjoy using it as much. When looking at the Z system and in particular the quality of the glass, it was clear this was better suited to my style of work. Nothing wrong with the focus as far as I can see. I don’t use continuous AF so that’s not an issue. I’ve definitely seen a difference already with the quality of the RAWs
@@JamieOverland Having met and chatted to Stuart McG I was interested at that time in why he was also using the N mirrorless. At the time I was in love with the D 850, but also had invested in the expensive 24-70 70-200 2.8 glass. Interestingly he explained that the f4 which is way less expensive glass on the new mirrorless N system produced better quality Raw files. I pondered for weeks after our chat. I finally made the decision to change it all and I haven't looked back. The quality of the images using the Z7 and the 14-35, 24-120, and 100-400 is so much better than the 850 and 2.8 glass. I'm not sure how to explain it other than 'it;'s so much better' lol Far lighter too! lol
@@cjones7246 I discussed the switch also with Stu before I made it and I agree the image quality on the Nikon Z glass is excellent. I’m very happy I changed
Nice to spend a quiet morning with you. Thanks for taking us along.
You’re welcome Jim, glad you enjoyed it
Mali convinced you to come over to Nikon Z7ii. I have 24-120 F4 with that camera and it is a stunning lens. What happened to the dream of the Cannon R5 then? Why did you choose to leave Sony.
I have had my Nikon Z7ii since release and it produces stunning images, I am sure you will agree.
Hi Nicky, didn’t really have a dream of anything just fancied a change. The Nikon lens’s seem pretty good and I wanted a camera that would suit my woodland work, and this seemed to tick the boxes. So far so good!
hi Jamie, is this woodland close to Holme Fenn? Some fabulous looking oak trees! Does it take you long to spot these compositions? At my age and weight the speed I walk around these days should mean I find it easier to spot the compositions but then the failing eyesight kicks in lol
This woodland is in South Lincolnshire, so not too far north. It’s not too hard to spot potential compositions but it’s harder finding them when in optimal conditions!
Good to see a new video, with some great conditions...really liked the image with the two branches almost touching and the last mono image!
Thanks Neil, I think they were my favourites from the morning also
Good to see you back. Its been a while hope your well. Something beginning with N? Looks like the Sony Hype train has come to a stop finally. Everyone seems to be going back to Nikon and Canon again 😅. Nikon shooter myself. My loyalty never faultered 🤣 loving the Z series cameras. Fantastic so ill be intrested to hear your thoughts. What inspired the change though? Didnt you go the 100-400 specifically for the woodland?
Thanks, yes all well thanks. Never really felt the love for the Sony, although I did love the 100-400 GM. Decided to give Nikon a try as I’d heard good things and it ticks all the boxes for me as mainly a woodland photographer. I have the Nikon 100-400 so I’ll see how it stacks up!
Very good Jamie. Lovely conditions and wildlife. You gotta love mornings like that. Some great shots as well. Really liked the B&W loan tree right at the end...well done.
It was a glorious morning John, for sure. I loved it. Thanks, the shot edited well in mono and was quite happy with it
Nice images Jamie, always enjoy a watching you taking the images. Nice calm morning
Cheers Geoff, much appreciated
Nice one Jamie. That shot with the two branches was awesome. It was nice to get out and see the wildlife from the comfort of my sofa. I will have drag my backside out of bed and do some photography.
Thanks Roger. I really like that little composition and I’m pleased I’ve got a different version of it for my collection
What a fantastic morning all that wildlife around was lovely. The image at 7:35 was nice with the track leading you in , the image at 15:13 with that really interesting looking shaped tree was lovely as was 18:32 but the image of that morning for me was the final image at 21:08 like you say the interaction between the two trees is lovely and in that fog ! Lovely . Take care mate.
Thanks mate, appreciate your feedback
Some fabulous images there Jamie, and really great to see you have got your photography mojo back - long may it continue. Nice new camera by the way.
Many thanks. Yep plenty of spark left in me yet!
