One of the beauties you have living in the flat lands is the benefit of what I call "big skies"... I am surprised that you haven't made use of this more often - I know woodland is your thing but eventually those skies have got to come calling.. especially when you have specimen trees like those withered old oaks/beeches? in abundance. The shot at 17.:07, I think I would have liked to see all the image - I know you was saying there was a lot of mess/deadfall? but sometimes it's just that sort of thing for me that gives background to a shot..or telols a story, especially as it was a dead tree. Greatford Gardens.. 42ft above sea level..lol, not a lot of hill climbing there for sure 🤣 Lol.. walking on someone's drive.. I think they are called "permissive paths" Nice to see you out on a bimble. atb Al
Re the Big Skies, I get what your saying it’s just difficult to find a clean subject to put under them or a get clear, mess free horizon. I will try though. I was actually on the beginning of the fen elevation in the Lincs fen border here so 42ft is quite high!
That was a good wander, the 'Black Crag' of Lincolnshire. I especially liked the black and white photo of the tree at 5:20. I haven't been out too much myself as it's been so windy this winter!
Hi Russ, hope you’re well. I do enjoy Glens stuff and watch regularly so there was a bit of inspiration there for sure! It’s not the most inspiring of landscapes but there’s plenty of scope to explore and stretch my legs!
I just wish more photographers would do what you have just done, travel light, travel local, and with no tripod, I bet you did not even miss your tripod on this occasion and yet you got some nice pictures, well done and thank you for sharing your Sunday walk with us....
Hi Des, you’re right I didn’t miss it at all and enjoyed the freedom without it. I’m so used to having low light in the woodland and relying on it so it’s nice to wander more freely doing these walks!
I like what you're doing here, Jamie. I wish more photographers would ditch their tripods and spend more time tramping around their local area. I spent many happy hours wandering around the Welland Valley before moving to Snowdonia. Rural England is very beautiful and I love when it is celebrated through the medium of photography. There's much more to landscape photography than the spectacular scenery found in out national parks. This obsession with spectacle is not particularly imaginative or authentic.
Nick, I really appreciate this comment as I was tempted to take this video down several hours after it was published as I didn’t think people would like it or even watch it. I must admit I really enjoyed the freedom of just adventuring, and I’m definitely going to do more of it. Thanks mate
Welcome back really enjoyed the video it's what photography is all about no pressure to produce top quality photos just go out and enjoy your photography
Hi Jamie, great to see you out and about again .. I did wonder if you might call your little series "Everyday Landscapes - Walkabout" as a wee nod to Gary's latest feature ( which isn't too shabby either ). Clearly an enjoyable and interesting day out for you and thanks for sharing as I enjoyed it too. Looking forward to more like it ... Happy Easter to you and yours
Enjoyable video, a nice opportunity for me to vicariously experience places I've never been. Any enjoyable landscape is great (not too much of that where I live).
Thanks and that was why I thought it would be interesting to film, as whilst it’s not the most interesting of locations it’s just nice to share what’s on my doorstep!
I really sensed your enjoyment at being out on one of those rare fine days this year. There’s much to love in these videos by Gary and you and just shows we don’t have to travel far to get pleasant images. Look forward to more in South Lincs. Thank you.
What a lovely vid bud. This is how I wish a lot more photography yt vids would be like. A photographer enjoying being out in nature. Hope you can do more.
Great vlog and images Jamie 👌, I should imagine you were getting the looks because of the camera in your hand rather than the wellies my friend. The OS app is a great tool I use it very often to plan walks etc well worth the subscription 👍.
Great to see a video from you. I found you via the Pubcast and because the pubcast had Adam on. I’m a regular follower now. I enjoyed the walk and the images. I enjoy walking and shooting but have to use my phone due to not having a camera with IBIS.
Hi Ken, and thanks for watching. Whilst IBIS is definitely helpful, it shouldn’t stop you using it handheld. Just keep the shutter speed up high enough by increasing your ISO 👍
I am looking forward to the rest of this series Jamie. I know it's early days, but from an enjoyment point of view, how did this compare to your usual outings? Kind regards - Robin
Hi Robin, that’s a good question. I really enjoyed the walk and freedom of just a small bag for handheld photos. In terms of the vlog, I don’t think it’s as enjoyable as my normal stuff….but that’s me being self critical
That was a really lovely video Jamie. It’s always nice just to get out. I’m glad you’re embracing the freedom of no tripod. I know they’re useful but it spoils a good walk having to cart around that extra weight and modern cameras easily handle higher ISO’s. Like me, you have a hard local area to work with but don’t you think that makes us better practiced photographers?
Thanks Sheila, I actually really enjoyed the freedom and accessibility of shooting handheld and intend to do more of it. It’s hard work round here for sure, and without Holme being on my doorstep, I would be struggling to get motivated. Hope to see you soon
I do a lot of meandering around my local area. The farmers have become quite used to me. Trying to stay out of the fields at the moment though as everything's so wet. We're getting about one dry day a week, making even a local walk liable to be rained off. There's always somewhere where you haven't quite investigated yet. I've got plans to string together a few walks I've already done to make as direct a route as possible to one of the local forests (only about three miles away) but my wellies are refusing to leave the hallway. Good luck with the sponsored walk. I fear my left hip just wouldn't be up to that distance over one day. Twenty miles is a good days walk whilst hiking so I think 25 is quite brave. I hope you've factored in someone with a support vehicle if things don't go to plan.
I wasn’t going to start these walks until the spring for same reason, the paths are so sodden and muddy round here, however believe it or not this area is slight elevated so a little dryer. I’ve always liked exploring footpaths though - you never know what you might find
Why are the trees "Scared" Jamie you never said? just what i like to get out and find stuff around the town. No need for a tripod these days especially on a walkabout, i only use one if i am repeating a shot or sitting on one waiting for light. looking forward to the next one
Shouldn’t that be ‘Everyday walk, talk & shoot’? 😁 Nice insight into your local area, some nice tree shots thrown in as well. How many close up intimate shots were there on the way round that were missed? Good luck with the training for the walk. My mum has Alzheimer’s, so I can really appreciate the comments about your dad - it’s such an indiscriminate illness that robs a person of who they are.
Hi Jamie I'm in Lincolnshire myself. TBH I can't find a great deal of places to photograph and find myself often planning shoots elsewhere. You put up an image of a tree and the caption said " not really worth the effort", or something like that. But I thought that was a nice shot mate. I've been watching Gary Norman and his Daily Landscapes, I like Gary and often feel a bit bad for him when he's getting upset with trolls. Anyway you two should get together and make a video on why you choose the compositions that you do, it would be interesting and helpful I reckon. PS Love the Think Tank messenger style bag
Thanks for the comment. I’m literally just over the border so down in South Lincs and yes it’s tough to find places to shoot for sure. I’ve a couple of local woodlands which are generally my go to places but hoping to explore the wider landscape a bit more this year
@@JamieOverland No problem at all. I've found it particularly good as the crops produce a small amount of greenery and after the harvest when the lines of the combined harvester are visible. I was driving up to Norfolk at the weekend, heading north on the A140. About halfway, the landscape really flattens out with the big skies all around.
That was a good wander, the 'Black Crag' of Lincolnshire. I especially liked the black and white photo of the tree at 5:20.

Think this will be a nice series Jamie.
