when I was sick and had to be on dialysis, I had to lock my Boston Baxter out of my room due to sanitation requirements while doing my treatments. My best little friend in the world one day hid under my bed for 45 min while I setup and got started, then crawled out and lay next to me the rest of the night. That is true love.

The best advice I can give for first time Boston owners: the first year is usually much different than the rest… meaning, They’re usually very hyper and crazy, but please be patient. After that first year will be the best dog you can ever ask for❤️❤️❤️❤️

Our Boston turns 3 this August and she is still acts like a nutty puppy that wants to play ball 5 times a day. She keeps us busy 🙂 We got a male chocolate colored Boston as a companion for her. He plays but is much more mellow than his sidekick. He's actually sort of lazy :-) He just turned 1.

I recently lost my most recent Boston terrier, Ellie, after 13 years of current love. Even the day she died, she waited till she came home to work so she could die in my arms. We are seniors who currently have our first Boston Terrier. He is almost 2. His first year of life he was an absolute beast with jumping and serious biting, to the point we thought we may have to re-home him.
I was committed to making it work, so we invested in both group and private training along with a litany of toys to entertain and distract him.
It was well worth the time, money and effort! He has become a wonderful companion. Some things that we found invaluable:
*An easy walk harness for leash training.
*A squirt bottle for correction and small treats for reward.
*An outdoor tug toy to hang from a tree or pole in a fenced yard.
*A yoga ball or peanut ball to chase around the fenced yard and tire themselves out.

What Michele means by "biting" is that Bostons can be a bit mouthy when they're puppies. They don't bite hard to hurt but can get a bit nippy when you rough-house with them. At that point, say NO and end the play session. Then there's the Boston Zoomies - they tear around the house like they're on fire leaping chairs in a single bound. They do need exercise particularly as pups. You must be the alpha in the house or you will be their pet! But you won't find a funnier, more lovable compact breed.

He has been with us 2 years and is 4 years old now. He has the bark of a killer but the personality of a lover, and can jump like he’s in the circus! I think this is why no one one wanted him. Our experience with Boston Terriers runs very close to Dr. Lindsey's description.
Personally, I never thought to much about Bostons. They were cute, but ...
... then my girlfriend adopted one at an adoption event at her local bank where they feature each dog for a week, to replace her 14y/o " Sneagle" Jasmine who had recently passed away.
She is Black &White, features all the Boston color characteristics, however: she has been blessed with varying degrees of black speckles of varying sizes all over her body, especially fine spotted sox on all fours .
She has been previously names Betty Boop , so we kept that.
I've never encountered a dog with more character personality and such expressive eyes and face.
She adjusted to her new home immediately and brings joy to our lives daily.
    Get a Boston Terrier !
    They love their humans.

    Devoted cuddle bugs!

Boston Jack, was my little buddy for over 16 years ... he passed away a few month back and left a enormous void in our home. My daughters brought a new Boston home for fathers day. I gave him the name of Willy (Willy the mutt) and he quickly got attached to my oldest daughter's large 4 year old shaggy sheepdog. Poor Nimo the sheepdog must now put up with Willy the terror who is relentless in his attacks from every direction. A true Mutt and Jeff scenario. Willy has his work cut out to take over from Jack ... but Bostons have great characters and Willy will surely live up to it !

We moved back to the states in 2018, and she came with us flying from Seoul to San Francisco to Houston. She did very well on the flight and rode in a carrier in the cabin. Got into trouble from time to time. He would mark in the house which was a painful habit but we loved him even with his issues. His antics make us laugh every day. He thinks he's so tough but then he's so needy when he follows my wife everywhere in the house and cuddles like a baby. I'm 67 and lost my first Boston over 50 years ago and I cried for two straight weeks. I already dread the day when little Otis won't be with us.

I’m Australian and have my first Boston terrier. Got her because I was thinking about a pug or Frenchie until I found out about all the health issues and boy I’m glad I did. She still has a cute little squishy face but has much more projection than those do and we have no issues with her breathing except for some light snoring. We have been to dog parks with pugs and frenchies not and it is really sad so see my little Comet zooming around like a mad thing and to see the pugs and Frenchies watching wistfully while snuffling and snorting around barely doing any exercise. She does get some hay fever and watery eyes because of her bug eyes so she needs some antihistamines when it gets really bad and we have special wipes to keep them clean.
Unfortunately people in Australia are wising up to this breed now so no doubt they will start to be breed irresponsibly and their health here will also start to deteriorate. But for now the Bostons in Australia are still a pretty healthy little breed.

I've had 6 Boston's now in the 50 years they have been in the family. They are the only breed for me. One health issue you didn't mention was they are also prone to seizures from about age 8. All, but one, has made it to 13 years and my current one is 12 and doing well, not even showing signs of the seizures that every other one of mine have had. One thing a prospective Boston parent needs to realize, though, is from the time you get them until they are about 2.5 years old, they can be very destructive when left alone. My mother had a two tier coffee table back in the 70s and our own Boston chewed off all 8 corners of that 2 years. However, as I stated at the beginning...despite these things, you cannot have a better family member that wears fur than a Boston and I hope to get #7 before I leave this planet.

I had lost my Bella Rose back on Jan. 9th while at the vets for checkup. the reason she was at the vets in 1st place her eye seem to be getting cloudy. she suddenly had severe seizure, afterwards the vets said we must let her go due to all the pain and suffering she was in, my Bella was barely 4 years old, I miss her so very much, but now wonder did I do the right thing?

I will always have Boston in my life and recommend them to anyone who is looking for a great family dog. I have a wonderful and spoiled pack that consists of 2 Bostons, 4 Boston/Pug mixes, a Pug, a HHL Chinese Crested and 2 Pit bulls, my world revolves around my babies and I wouldn't have it any other way (well it would be nice if they could help vacuum occasionally).

My Boston barks a lot, fights with the cat, hates new people and tries to kill them, and farts all the time. Maybe it's my fault but she doesn't exactly fit the description. Except for the breathing issues. That part was spot on for me.

Love my boston sooo much. Something most videos say is that they don't shed a lot. I honestly think that's not true. The hair is short but it definitely is a big amount. I have to brush her often. Just thought i should mention this for people looking at this breed. Bostons are definitely the best breed. Definitely can't imagine a life without my Boston. But if you are considering a Boston do know they do shed a lot.

My son rescued a brother/sister combination. They were great pets!
The downside was that it was expensive to maintain their health. The eyes alone cost a fortune to keep healthy.
They have since passed and I really missed their company.

    • @2-old-Forthischet
      @2-old-Forthischet 2 года назад

@Carved Haunts the male dog developed some kind of infection and the ophthalmologist (for animals) could not save it after some treatment so had to remove it and replaced it with a glass eye. The sister developed cataracts and due to her age they decided to just let it run it's course. She eventually became totally blind. It was not cheap.
On the upside, my son just rescued a new male Boston Terrier last week from the same place as the other two. It's about two years old and a really well behaved pet. This rescue actually interviews prospective homes to make sure it's in the best interest of the dogs.

I’ve had Bostons for 30 years. I can't imagine life without one. My recommendation would be to check the parents and try to get one with a little bit of a snout, rather than one with a really flat face. As cute as they are, the really flat-faced ones can have terrible breathing problems and may require airway surgery. The ones with a bit of a snout will breath better and be able to be a more active family dog. They are smart, funny, loving and friendly. You can't go wrong with a Boston.

My Zingo is a Boston Terrier. She lived almost 14 years. My profile has a picture of her. Zingo was super smart. I trained her to do about 40 commands. She was active dog like a Lab yet very small. She was very friendly yet like the dog in the video aloof meaning cool and distant at times yet very friendly. Zingo was smart, friendly and needed to be with people. She did not like being held or in lap but would sit beside you and let you pet her all day. Tempature was a concern they can not be to hot or too cold. Snubed nose they can not tolerate 85F and above and short hair they get cold at 60F. Zingo would tolerate children but if they continued to pester her she would yap and semi-bite at children. She would never bite at children but just let child known that child was bothering her to much. At the end of her life she could not see very well and got cancer. Summery, I love my Zingo and will get another Boston Terrier. Overall they are friendly, active, and wonderful companions.

Great dogs if your in an appartment with fussy neighbors...they are very quiet in general (mine litterally never barks at anything). The reason I mention this is because two of my closest friends have Chihuahua's (ones a mix), and they are great dogs, but a nightmare when it comes to barking (not saying all of them are)...they've both had issues with neighbors constanly complaining. Bostons are amazing all round. For dry eyes, I just give my dog a couple of drops of Burt's Bees' eye wash every day, he actually likes it (like 8 bucks off amazon and each one last me for around 6 months). He doesn't have eye issues (knock on wood), it's more of a preventative thing cause it can get really dry in the winter and his eyes are pretty bulgie.

Hi, I got a couple of questions about the Bostons. What’s the point of having three weight classes? They don’t “show” by the weight class…do they? Also, what is the concern about color? I see other breeds with all kinds of colors, some even shown by color ( ridiculous). I see early pics of original Bostons who are predominantly white. Oh and one more question. To call these dogs terriers because there was some terrier blood originally infused into the breed seems like a misnomer. There basically bred down bulldogs even Bostons are bred down from there original size. I know this all sounds hostile I don’t mean it to be, I love these guys in fact my wife and have two. Thanks. Steve.
