If it makes you feel better, you didn't miss anything. There is almost no actual plot to this. I grew up mildly enjoying the soundtrack, and I saw it once on stage. It's literally just a bunch of songs about how cats are, sprinkled with that tiny story thread. The most puzzling thing about this is that they took the songs, which are the most famous part, and fucked them all up. The magician cat song is my favorite and they just...bent it over and assaulted it.
That and the uncanny valley look of the Cats.

Ugh I remember this coming out around the holidays and my family (who should know in my big age that I despise musicals) chose for all of us to go see it. I intentionally made myself sleep through the whole thing. What I did see of it, I wish I had never seen. No one needed this 😂

@@RivalReacts The stage version is SO much better. There's still not much in the way of plot; it's mostly just an excuse to have a bunch of song-and-dance numbers about cats. But the songs and dances are performed beautifully. They have so much character and energy that just got lost in the movie. Also, the cat costumes in the stage version look a lot better than the creepy, uncanny valley CGI they used in the movie.

I love Cats the 1998 version and seen it many many times. It's my all-time favourite stage musical. I've also seen the West-End European touring production of Cats four times.
However, I've only seen this 2019 film once and decided to never see it again. I was able to see some good aspects in it, but overall it was a big mess unfortunately.
I remember when the trailer came out. As soon as I saw uncanny valley Victoria, I knew it couldn’t end well. They took a musical that is successful for not having a main character/ensemble cast and said “This one cat is the MC now.” I will be content with just having the 1998 video and pretending 2019 Cats never existed
@@spaceface320 I agree with you completely. They should not have made Victoria a main character. They tried way too hard to add a more elaborate storyline.
I already had my reservations when the production of the film was announced. Especially when I heard they wanted to make it more realistic. I never understood why you would want to make dancing and singing cats realistic. Though I tried to be optimistic. But....yes, I also pretend 2019 version doesn't exist.

With Cats being a favorite musical of mine (I've seen the theater stage version) they did it so dirty in this movie :/ it works way better with costumes rather than this cgi crap they did. They even changed how some of the songs are composed, just ruins it even more. Gumbie cat is ment to be caring not whatever nightmare this is 😭 and they did my boy Tugger so dirty

As someone who was a competitive tap dancer & theatre kid who saw this movie in theaters, I can say the only part of this movie I actually genuinely enjoyed was Skimbleshanks’ number because of the tapping alone.
The tapping turned me from a hater to a fan so quickly 😂
I saw this movie in theaters (because I love watching really awful movies, I usually find them hilarious) and there was some guy in the front cry laughing the whole time, and it made it so much better.

I like the stage version of Cats but the movie version is awful 😭! But if you two would still be up to reacting to musicals in the future (especially after watching this cat-astrophe) then you two should define react to Hamilton, it’s really good!!

This musical is based upon the poetry collection Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. Each song is just a poem from the collection, that's why it doesn't make much sense and there's basically no plot
it was taken out but when I googled why they despise her, in the play, they hate her for leaving the group to be famous and be with Mccavity. They all knew Mccavity was bad so on top of her leaving the group to sing with Mccavity, they are mad that she chose to go with Mccavity when they all told her he was a horrible person.

So this travesty is based off a Broadway musical which was based off the works of T.S.Elliot. I forget if he invented the word or if his child did, but the word jelicle is from the original poems.
This movie is so bad that not even Taylor was able to save them. We,Swifties,collectively agreed to forget that it existed and not talk about it again. The movie may be a disaster but at least we have "Beautiful Ghosts" and the iconic Golden Globe night that gave us rare and adorable Taylor&Joe content😻
I will never forgive this movie for butchering most of these songs, actually how some characters are meant to be portrayed, and the awful choice of CGI for the cats. There were so many good options to still be able to use the actors, but they chose the worse one. Fully animated wouldn't have worked if they wanted to honor to original production with the amazing dancing, but really we already have that in a movie version. I actually would have preferred and animated version now, because I just slowly dislike this movie more each reaction I watch of it.

I couldn't get more than ten minutes into this movie. The stage play was amazing, but this adaption of it is just horrible. There was a direct to video film released in 1998 that was the stage play but minus the audience, done just for the video and it was amazing. If you want to see it how it was meant to be seen, then watch that one instead.
The lyrics all come from a poetic sort of book called "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" by T.S. Elliot. If you ever see the movie "Logan's Run," there is a man who recites a lot of poetry from it that you will have heard in the lyrics to the songs in Cats.

Cats is based on a book of poems by TS Elliot. Jellicle cats is his creation. All of the songs are based on his cat poem (sans like one and a half). Andrew Lloyd Webber (Satan) challenged himself to write songs based on the poems, then he had people perform them at a concert. TS Elliot’s widow liked it so much she approved for it to be turned into a musical. That shit became the longest running musical on Broadway until Phantom of the Opera beat it a few years ago.
EDIT: also the director sucks ass he’s a terrible person and a terrible director. And Judi Dench said yes to this because she was supposed to play Grizabella in the original production but tore her Achilles heel.

And the roaches are the most cursed thing I've seen in my life, if roaches weren't disgusting enough. I actually feel kind of offended on behalf of real roaches, and they are my worst nightmare. I'm still convinced covid was a punishment for this movie.

I'd love to see you guys watch a musical like Sweeney Todd with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter (also has Grindelwald, Wormtail, and Snape in it too from harry potter :p). They sing the whole time...but with discernable plot. That discernable plot, let me tell ya, it really makes a story. Lol. But I think you guys might like a musical better if it was one like Sweeney Todd that had so much talent in it and, ya know, death, people pie, gore, guts, the whole bit :p If Saw and High School Musical made a movie baby with Tim Burton as the movie baby father.

From the casting😂 to every other call that was made😂 I actually watched how this movie was made cause I was like there ain’t no way they thought this was actually good!😂 the dancers actually really put all their heart and sole into it and I feel so bad for them!😂 there was only one scene that everything was 🔥 and that ladies and gentlemen was the only scene that was written a new by the creator and cats himself and that’s why it was 🔥 everything else was 🗑Jennifer was like the only one that kept me going this movie 😂
